About the Author

Keith Howard used to believe most of life's problems could be solved chemically. Or, failing that, with charm, camouflage, and a well-timed exit.
He's now a writer, retired recovery advocate, Army veteran, and self-described "recovering minister" who has also worked as a Baptist preacher, high school principal, touring improv actor, radio host, and professional disappointment. For five years, he chaired the Recovery Task Force for the New Hampshire Governor's Commission on Alcohol and Other Drugs and served as Executive Director of Hope for New Hampshire Recovery. These days, he writes instead of directing traffic.
His memoir, Unclaimed, But Loud, is a gut-punched, darkly funny exploration of boyhood, identity, addiction, and the long, awkward walk back to something like wholeness. It's not a tidy story. It's one of those lopsided spirals where the kid who talked too much becomes the man who finally says something real.
Keith lives in Manchester, New Hampshire with his wife, Maria Elena Letona, who is more impressive than he deserves.
He writes regularly at The Rest is Moonshine, a Substack newsletter full of humor, recovery reflections, and moments that almost make sense. You can find him there, or in folding-chair circles where people remember your name before you do.
