5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I just finished this book and felt seen, it names that odd loneliness we carry even when our phones buzz, and it does so with clear, down-to-earth writing and practical, non-preachy tools for reconnecting (vulnerability, mindful solitude, better tech habits). It nudged me to actually try small changes and think differently about connection, highly recommended
4.0 out of 5 stars Honest and surprisingly comforting
This book really spoke to me. It puts into words that weird feeling of being surrounded by messages and notifications but still feeling alone. The writing feels personal and easy to connect with, like a friend talking honestly about something we all go through. It does not try to lecture or overload you with research. Instead it offers thoughtful reflections and small ideas to help you feel more grounded and connected in real life. It is not life-changing, but it made me stop and think. I would definitely recommend it to anyone feeling a bit lost.
5.0 out of 5 stars Educational and useful
Reading this book I felt the examples hit home with my own experience with need for companionship. Gives some data about how many people experience loneliness even with our ability for instant communication nowadays and the impact it has on us. Then gives you useful tools on how to bridge the gap like vulnerability, active listening, how to overcome social anxiety and developing more empathy. I like the part where it explains importance of being alone and feeling secure, enjoying yourself and forgiving yourself for whatever position you are in. I also like the explanation of the ups and downs of technology and how to better utilize for connection rather than the typical social media scrolling that we compare our lives to. I think this is a great read for people especially the younger generations who may be experiencing loneliness and to make the changes towards more fulfilling relationships.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This book really spoke to me. I’ve struggled with feeling disconnected even when surrounded by people or scrolling endlessly online. What I loved was how it gave practical advice without sounding preachy. It made me rethink how I spend quiet time and why meaningful connection matters. If you’re feeling out of sync with yourself or others, this is worth reading.
5.0 out of 5 stars Finally got out of my head
Finally Got Out of My HeadThis book showed up in my life just when I needed it. I am a thinker. I analyze every situation. I second guess myself all the time. I think about what people are thinking about me. It is tiring. I was ready for some shaking up. I wanted something that would nudge me and give me some tools to help me make a change. This book did both. The book is written in this blunt conversational style. There are no cutesy metaphors or forced positive vibes. Just down to earth language and the straight truth. The author does not claim to have the answers for how to get your life together in 300 pages. Instead you are given a helpful reminder and tools to change how you respond to your thoughts so you stop spinning and start choosing what is truly important. There were times while reading this book where I was snorting laughing because I felt like it was reading my brain verbatim. There were other times where I had to pause and really reflect, “Ohhhh….Yep. I do that.” The chapter on fact vs. story really got to me and I already caught myself yesterday before I got in a mental tailspin.I have felt more free since reading this book. It was not because my life changed, but I am no longer lugging around my thoughts as heavy luggage. I had a pass to stop overthinking and just allow myself to be in this moment. If you are an over-thinker or just plain tired of being in your head all the time I suggest you read this book. It is full of bluntness that I wish I would have come across 10 years ago.
4.0 out of 5 stars Loneliness in the Digital Age
This book is really relatable. It's for anyone who has ever scrolled on social media and knew that something was missing. The author does a fantastic job of explaining why we get caught up in that cycle and provides real, actionable advice for building meaningful connections. I appreciate how it is research-backed but still feels like you're having a conversation with the author. The information about learning to be vulnerable and determining your own "third place" was especially beneficial. This book will not solve everything overnight, but it is a good, honest guide to making things a little better.
5.0 out of 5 stars Find Your Connection Again
This book really hits home when it comes to loneliness. It dives right into the issue, offering a lot of good advice and some clear ideas on how to deal with feeling cut off and the tough feelings that come with it.I really liked how it explains and agrees with the problems our busy modern lives create, especially for younger people who have grown up with smartphones and social media all around them. It also shows how quiet moments, peace, and spending time alone in a good way can actually help a lot. This is all talked about in the context of also having a healthy time with other people. I truly suggest this smart and fair book to anyone who feels out of touch, both with themselves and with others around them.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good for connection
Like many people out there, I often get carried away with social media and mobile phone use. I have always felt that it separates people and triggers a sense of loneliness. This book delves into this very thing and effectively offers positive ways in which technology can be used to improve connection. I wish it was a bit more thorough in places, but I recommend.
Useful steps and actions to help you feel more connected
I liked that this book included background research into loneliness to demonstrate that we aren't the only ones feeling alone. The author provides practical guidance on building stronger relationships, ways to create new connections and steps to help move out of the negative spiral in our heads. As an entrepreneur, I loved the description of "third places" - the communal places we go for connection, like coffee shops. If you're currently feeling a little disconnected from people and places this book is a great guide.
Helpful
Loneliness is a widespread crisis, especially in the developed countries and major cities. It is also a hidden crisis because of social stigma. This book gave me a new perspective on how to combat it and how to use it advantages. If you are in this situation, grab a copy. It will help you! You are not alone.
Thought Provoking
The author combines research, personal stories, and practical strategies in a way that’s both eye-opening and relatable. Rather than blaming technology or idealizing the past, they explore the complex emotional, social, and cultural factors that shape our sense of belonging. The actionable steps are realistic and inspiring, from fostering deeper one-on-one connections to redefining community in a digital age.
The book highlights a growing issue of loneliness & offers some practical advice & strategies
I found this book to be somewhat of an eye-opener. I think if the internet had been available when I was younger, say in my teens or twenties, I could quite easily have found myself living my life in chat rooms, or the comment sections of Facebook or YouTube. I think that is the case for a great many people, and I believe this problem is more than likely getting worse. This book highlights the "loneliness paradox," that is, the potential that social media and the internet as a whole have to bring us all together, to unite communities from around the world, to build connections with others, and yet it doesn't do that. The opposite is true. It detaches you from the real world, isolating you more and more from actual real interactions with real people. There are some fairly solid, science-based methods and strategies within the book, and all in all, it is a thought-provoking and interesting read.
Great overview and easy to understand explanations
This book gives a comprehensive overview of all the factors that make us feel lonely and also, very important to me, show the connection between anxiety, social anxiety and attachment issues in relation to being or feeling isolated and disconnected. .
