5.0 out of 5 stars The Harvest
The Harvest is truly one of a kind. The writing is sharp, the story is on point, and every moment pulls you deeper into a beautifully told tale about identity, family, and the struggle to stay true to yourself without losing the people you love along the way. It’s rare to find a film that balances emotion and storytelling this well. The characters feel real, their conflicts are relatable, and the message stays with you long after the credits roll. This is more than just a movie—it’s an experience that reminds you how fragile and precious human connection really is.I would highly recommend The Harvest to anyone who appreciates thoughtful storytelling and unforgettable characters. Don’t miss this one.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Film
Great movie! Loved that it talked about so many different aspects of the hmong culture and our parents expectations vs our reality. So little said but so much conveyed though the film!Just wished the movie had more hmong people for the characters but they began to grow on me as the movie progressed. Also would have loved to see a little more background on dad so the nonhmong audience can get a glimpse of why our hmong dad's are the way they are.
1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
A life for a life was all I really got from this movie. Did Thai and his sister, mother, and father really came around to connect or continue to disconnect because there was so many problems and it wasn't just about the health issues of his father either. I don't think Thai really came back to address the heartache, the pain, the dark secrets, and the broken bridges of his family in a believable way. It just seems like the audience was suppose to know this ahead of time before watching.
3.0 out of 5 stars Meh
Decent movie but quite off putting when you can tell the main actors family isn't Hmong or even of the same type of Asian. When they try to talk hmong it's pretty bad. The story itself follows a man that left his Hmong life to find his own path, he returns home to visit family and some stuff are the same while others have moved on with their lives, his father is becoming sick while not taking medication as instructed, his ex girlfriend is now married, his mom is basically non-existent as she is always "working" (cheating) and his little sister is dating a black boyfriend which is shunned upon. His clan is asking him to move back home to support his family. He has to look inside to see if he'll move back or not
