This is the greatest coffee maker we have ever had, and the most expensive lol. Seriously! Even though it was expensive it delivers a quality cup of coffee. Barista style!!!! And the machine is very quiet while brewing. It does take a little bit to figure out how to set the machine. This is not a machine that you plug in flip a switch and presto coffee, No! But once you get it all set up then it does become very easy to use.Also clean up is a breeze.I definite recommend this GE smart grid and brew burr coffee maker.

This is taller and narrower than my Cusinart 12-cup/K-Cup combo coffeemaker. I returned the first coffeemaker due to numerous water-related issues right out of the box. I spent 25 minutes on the phone with GE support with no resolution. However, Bolo makes it very easy to exchange a defective item.Second coffeemaker:I brewed 10 cups using the recommended 'Gold' setting with fresh, whole beans. The timer indicated it would take 8:40 to complete the process. Not bad, my 12-cup Cuisinart takes 10 minutes to brew 10 cups.It ground the beans in 30 seconds, then went to 'heat', 'infuse', then to 'Brew'. With 2:40 remaining, I heard the water stop. I guess it simply rested the remaining time to let the water drip through.The grinder function is much quieter than a stand-alone burr grinder. The bean hopper holds only enough beans for a 10-cup carafe.The coffee temp was 197°F exiting the brewer. The coffee in the pot measured 183°F immediately after brewing, 171°F one hour later. There is no warming pad on the GE. (My Cusinart measured 177° and 180° respectively, due to the warming pad).The coffee tasted very good. Slightly stronger than what I normally brew, and there was a fair amount of fines (or silt) in the bottom. The metal filter doesn't catch most of that. No paper filters were supplied, and I didn't research what type or size might fit.Clean up is a cumbersome process. None of the parts are dishwasher safe, and many aren't removable (the drip tray at the bottom must be wiped with a paper towel).The single cup feature took four minutes to brew a lukewarm single cup. Longer to clean up the mess. I selected the 10 oz. size and it delivered just over 11 oz. (the coffeemaker I had to return delivered 16 oz. when I selected 10.) I'm all in favor of single-serve coffee that doesn't use plastic K-cups, but this machine requires you to install a different, smaller basket, which is also a messy job to clean. A paper filter would be a better method.Pairing the coffeemaker to the SmartHQ app was straightforward. One advantage of connecting the coffeemaker to WiFi is that the clock will always be accurate.This is a pricey coffeemaker. In my opinion, the convenience of having a grinder and brewer in one unit is outweighed by the difficulty of cleaning and the useless single-cup feature.

For being a quite expensive coffee maker, the components and parts were cheap and flimsy. For us, the most desirable features were the built in grinder and programmable start time. However, even when the hopper was clearly full of beans, the grinder did not recognize this and would not begin brewing on time with an error message indicating to add beans to the hopper. After several clears of the error message it would eventually begin brewing, but made the auto start feature not useful. Occasionally after emptying and cleaning the brew basket another error would appear to “empty the brew basket” and prevent brewing from beginning. After several clears of the message and opening and closing the basket it would begin brewing. We attempted to use this coffee pot for 5 days before packaging it up for a return.

I love the style. I also love grinding my own beans for the best cup of coffee and this machine doesn't disappoint. I recently had to toss my Cuisinart because it started leaking and had a hard time finding one with the built-in grinder so I could use beans or pre-ground coffee. So far, I've used the single cup setting at 8 oz. It ends up being more like 6 but perhaps that's the way it's designed so that you have room to add stuff. This morning, I used the carafe setting and set it for 4 cups, figuring I'd have some leftover for lunchtime. Oddly enough, my 4 cups was only about l.5. Can't explain that one but since I'm the only coffee drinker at my house I'll just keeping adjusting til I get it right.It is a little messy to use and when you open up the basket area to dump your grounds be sure to have a paper towel to catch the drips. Overall, a very good cup of coffee so I'll just adjust the serving size for my needs.
