It charges the laptop quickly and doesn't have any coil whine. It's a brick but that's expected for the wattage output.
3.0 out of 5 stars Low Power Factor & Efficiency
My test computer is an Alienware m15 with a Core i7-9750H and NVIDIA GeForce 1660 Ti. The computer needs a minimum of a 180w power adapter to run at full blast without draining the battery. Using an AC plug power meter, I found the adapter can supply the rated 180w while stressing the computer at 100% CPU and 100% GPU using FurMark. The plastic case of the charger gets very, very hot while it’s maxed out: I measured plastic temperatures as high as 147F using a non-contact infrared thermometer, about 35 degrees warmer than a genuine 180w Dell charger. This heat is caused by the adapter’s inefficiency: When the adapter pulls 180w from the wall, a watt meter shows a 0.64 power factor when running at full load, meaning it’s actually pulling 280 VA. When sitting idle, the efficiency goes down even further: I’ve seen the power factor drop to 0.52 when the computer is idle and the battery is charged. To compare, the genuine Dell charger shows a 0.98 power factor at full load and 0.93 power factor when idle.I was not impressed with this 180w power adapter’s energy performance, but it is a good value for the price. While it works as intended, it’s remarkably inefficient when compared to a genuine Dell adapter. My main concern is the cheap components used in this charger that’s leading to the very low power factor and efficiency and incredible amount of waste heat that’s generated as a result. I don’t expect similar longevity as a genuine Dell charger and don’t leave it on carpeting, a couch, or any other surface that will insulate the adapter while you’re gaming.
