Complete Candle Making Process
- Preparation:Clean and dry your candle containers. Select the appropriate wick for your container size and use a wick sticker to secure the wick to the center of the container's bottom.
- Centering the Wick:Use the metal or wooden centering device to keep the wick centered. The metal centering device is ideal for small and medium candles, while the wooden centering device is suitable for larger candles.
- Melting the Soy Wax:Place the soy wax flakes into a double boiler to melt. If you don't have a double boiler, use a heat-resistant container and microwave it in intervals. Monitor the temperature with a thermometer, ensuring it stays between 120°F and 180°F. Avoid overheating to prevent degradation of the wax.
- Adding Fragrance Oil (Optional):Once the wax is fully melted and at the right temperature, you can add fragrance oil. Typically, 1 oz of fragrance oil per pound of wax is recommended. Stir well to ensure the oil is thoroughly incorporated.
- Pouring the Wax:Carefully pour the melted wax into the prepared candle containers, ensuring the wick stays centered. Pour slowly to avoid creating air bubbles.
- Cooling and Setting:Allow the candles to sit and cool naturally. This process usually takes several hours, depending on the size of the candle and the room temperature. Ensure the candles are fully set before moving to the next step.
- Trimming the Wick:Use scissors to trim the wick to an appropriate length, usually about 1/4 inch. This helps the candle burn cleanly and minimizes smoke.
- Enjoy Your Handmade Candle:Your handmade candle is now ready to use. Light it and enjoy the warm glow and pleasant fragrance!
