Very smooth. The illustrated picture of the nozzle(or tip), the 1st one illustrated made me thonk that end was metal which vonnects to the shower hose, but that metal part is actually all on the shower hose's end.The entire tip is rubbery and smooth. On the tip's end, where it is vented is very smooth for comfortable entry. I have amother one, different model but the "vented" end of tip rises a little higher and n9t so comfortable. Yes, I used lube evey time.For you Men: I think for a bonus(no pun/play on word intended), this even feels like a prostate messager while working it as an enema tool.IMPORTANT: Be aware of the information on this sight that tells you which model of shower hose the tip will fit.I'm very satisfied with comfort and ease of use of this enema bulb.There is no strong off-gassing of the material... nust slightly noticeable if you're pay8ng attention up close to the face.So, 4 stars d/t the off-gassing. If it was strong off-gassing, wpuld've dtopped to 2(maybe 1) stars.
