The 3.5-quart stainless bowl is ideal for small batches of cookies or cupcakes, and the tilt-head plus included beaters and dough hooks make cleanup straightforward. Mixing performance is smooth and consistent; it handled peanut-butter cookie dough without bogging down. My only gripe: it runs louder than I expected. It’s not unbearable, but if you have an open-concept kitchen you’ll notice the hum at higher speeds. Given the versatility and solid build for the price, I’m happy to trade a little extra noise for the convenience and power. I REALLY LIKED: 1) the way the bowl is gear-driven and turns with the geared beater; 2) that you can both see inside the bowl while it's mixing, and can swivel the clear plate aside to add ingredients; 3) the gripper feet on the bottom work great; 4) the strong but relatively quiet motor of the mixer; 5) how everything fits within the unit for easy storage; 6) that this effectively gives you two mixers in one: a hand mixer and a stand mixer; 6) that a customer service number is provided on the bottom of the box; 7) I found the quick start guide to be clear, easy to read and helpful; 8) the mixer by itself sits on end well on a countertop.COULD BE IMPROVED: 1) although it has some ridges for that purpose, I had to use fingernails or a knife blade to get the cover plate (where the mixer attaches) to release so I could slide it off; 2) The handle on the mixer is not easy to hold onto - it's blockish and has no finger indentations or back to it to help in holding on to it; 3) I wonder if wider dough hook bends would mix dough more efficiently? 4) After just one washing, the whisk beaters showed rust around where the tines join to their posts! (I would recommend washing the beaters by hand and drying them immediately to prevent this.) 5) I included a photo of these straight-tined beaters as opposed to ones with some twist - I think the mixing would be more effective and efficient without straight tines.USING IT:1) When I used it as a stand mixer to make cookies, I found that I had to often use a rubber spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl to get all the ingredients to incorporate well. (The gear-driven turning of the bowl worked well, though.) It wasn't difficult to do that through the opening where the clear window is, since the beaters were on the other side of the bowl. I liked how I could close the clear plastic plate to keep the flour dust in the bowl after adding it. I started out using the whisks, then changed to the dough hooks before the cookie dough got too thick. With both the whisks and dough hooks, it took a good tug to get them to pull out of the cookie dough after the mixer was already released, and the process even pulled the gripper feet loose from the counter when the cookie dough was mixed.2) On the other end of the spectrum, I used the whisks with just the mixer to whip some heavy cream. They eventually got the job done, but it seemed to take much longer than usual.CONCLUSION: Overall, I found this mixer/stand mixer to be innovative and clever in its design. Although it doesn't perform at the same level as an expensive stand mixer, it does well enough that for anyone who doesn't already have a stand mixer, it's a reasonable option for a very reasonable price.
