1.0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of Tea
Thought I'd try this as an alternative to my usual roasted green leaves. Not a fan. Taste seems dirty. Color not inviting. Will not purchase it again.
5.0 out of 5 stars Makes a wonderful iced tea!
I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this Hojicha tea. This roasted green tea is flavorful. My favorite way to drink it is as iced tea, although I like it hot, as well. The tea is a finely ground tea and mixes easily with water. It tastes really good when I add a little lemon to the ice...yum!!This tea is made in Japan.
4.0 out of 5 stars First experience with Hojicha tea powder
This was my first experience with Hojicha tea and overall I found it to be fine, after sort of figuring out how to prepare it. This unfortunately comes with zero instruction on how to prepare so I just sort of went straight in clumsily.I first tried about a spoonful of the hojicha powder added to a mug of water that I had in the microwave for just under two minutes. Before I even tasted it I could tell it wasn't right...but I added a tiny bit of sugar and tried it anyway. Even though I knew it was wrong it actually still tasted alright. My next attempt, I did about half a spoonful (just my normal eating spoon, not a measuring device) of powder into a mug and had my keurig dispense 8oz of hot water into the powder. This one came out much more to my liking (again with a bit of added sugar) and has been the method I've used since. I do enjoy it and it's nice to not really have to wait the normal length of time to steep, but once I finish this powder I will be going back to my regular green tea bags. This hojicha is not much like my normal lipton green tea bags (which I'm sure is a very American style and probably not what "expert" tea drinkers would say is any good) but I prefer that and it's what I like and am used to. This is my experience as a newcomer to hojicha, so take that for what it's worth. I do enjoy this hojicha well enough and I'm probably not even preparing it properly...In all, This hojicha tea powder is interesting and tastes decent enough to this newcomer. I didn't know what exactly to expect and I did come away from this being overall happy with what it is, but not enough to replace my normal tea routine.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Versatile and Tasty Green Tea from Japan
There are actually quite a few ways you can make this tea, and you can visit the manufacturer's website to watch a short video on some of these ways. Hojicha tea is a green tea, though one of the few that looks more brown than green. What you get in this package is 3.5 ounces of powdered Hojicha.I first made this tea by steeping it for about 30 seconds (that's right -- this is a quick steep time; also take care not to use very hot boiling water). As you can see in photo it's more of a reddish brown tea. The taste is earthy and just a tad sweet. I made a second cup of the tea and put it in the fridge -- it is also delicious as an iced tea. The third time I added 1/2 tsp powder to my frother with some oat milk and water and a little coconut sugar -- yum! That is my new favorite way to drink this!I share all this as an example of some of the different ways you can use this green tea (it can also be whisked like a matcha tea). As for the powder itself, this seems to be very good quality tea. It comes from Japan in a nicely sealed/zippered bag. Instructions are to keep in fridge after you open it.Very happy with this, and happy to have tried something new. A definite recommend!
3.0 out of 5 stars This is my first hojicha experience
This tasted fine. But the package has no instructions regarding how much to use or what an appropriate serving size would be. The package says it is one serving, and it clearly is not, and the nutritional information available implies the product is sweetened without clear information on that. While the taste is delightful, this is not a product for novices.
5.0 out of 5 stars Hojicha Powder
I have not had Hojicha powder previously and was curious to give this a try for a new way to enjoy green tea. I also like that this version of green tea proccessing has less caffeine so I can enjoy a cup later in the day. looked up the company video on how to prepare this tea and was excited to see there are multiple options. For my first taste, I decided to try the mini-blender option using a small battery operated blender to blend in my cup after adding a teaspoon of powder and the recommended 60 ml of hot water. It is important to be sure to not use boiling water to avoid an overly bitter outcome. The directions also state to add more water after mixing to your taste. I added another 60 ml and some agave syrup to give it a little sweetness. It is definitely unique to matcha or regular green tea with the leaves being roasted as they are. The color is deeper, and has a brown tint that looks much like coffee in my cup. I sipped it upon first blend prior to adding additional water and it was very strong so, added water is a must for my palate! The powder itself is very earthy and aromatic with definite green tea presence. No clumping whatsoever, and very quick to blend with no lumps. My next brew I will be making an iced version. This is a great option to try if you are a fan already, just wanting to experiment, or as a gift.
1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Powder for Drinking
No tea flavor, not fragrant, tastes oddly presweetened, does not microfoam
