My yelling and hand/arm gestures didn't scare off the dog. Fortunately, when I crossed the street, the dog ran off. I don't want to pepper spray an animal that may attack me (or a human being) unless I have to - but I have my crop now to carry as self-defense, as a first choice.

    For the price, this is a good value. I'm not quite sure I would say the keeper (oval top piece) is barely faux leather - it's really a dark-colored foam. The handle feels nice in the hand, and it does make an attention-grabbing sound.Overall, it's a good value.
