The bike itself is build extremely well for even a non-electric bike of this price, the frame feels good and the fork suspension is actually functional, unlike a lot of other cheap bikes. The wheels, shifter, and breaks are also pretty good quality for the price, still being cheap but not the levels I thought it would be at.The electric function of the bike was also quite impressive, as the bike actually reaches the claimed speeds even though I am likely heaver then the average user. The battery I found last for about 20 miles, but that is with some amount of manual pedaling so it is really closer to about 13 at full throttle (which is still quite impressive for the relatively small battery). The best part however was even though the bike is pretty heavy compared to non-electric bikes I was still able to ride it without power fine and is actually a very smooth and enjoyable experience. The issues I have however is the pedal assist could use some work, it lags behind from when you actually start pedaling making it not that seamless between powered and non-powered pedaling. Additionally it seems that the power levels with the pedal assist are not the usable, at power level one while just regularly pedaling I end up going around 13 mph which is way to fast for what should be power 1. When using power 1 with the throttle I go around 7 mph, which is what I expect. Maybe it's my own way of riding a bike, but the pedal assist is just uncomfortable to use because it does not feel like I am pedaling at all when using it and it is extremely hard to manage my speed. At power 5 while using petal assist I end up going around 22 mph, but because of the small gearing on the bike even at the largest ratio my feet can't move fast enough to actually contribute any power to the bike.I personally would just use the throttle or no power at all.
5.0 out of 5 stars FUNHANG is a fun hang!
I was skeptical at first because of the low price, but these FUNHANG ebikes (I purchased 2 of them) have really impressed me—solid build, nice quality, easy assembly, fun to ride, clean index shifting, great disc brakes, plenty of power, great battery range, nicely integrated electronics and controls. What really stands out though is their excellent email technical support: super responsive, knowledgeable, and eager to help with a couple minor issues I had. Great value overall!
4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect
I'm not sure how to start so I'll just do it chronologically. The bike came a day early then it was supposed to. Good, unless you had something already planned for that day. It was packed very well, and the box had no damage. I'm fairly well inclined mechanically so I had it assembled in about an hour. At first the derailleur needed to be adjusted as it would not go into high or low gear. I found out that the derailleur guard was slightly bent and was preventing it from engaging the high gear. Easy fix, but since the box had no damage was it that way from the factory? A simple cable adjustment fixed the low gear access. Battery was almost fully charged but I charged it to full, so I was ready to ride anywhere. I had an e-bike before (it was stolen) so I knew what to expect (I thought). It's an easy bike to ride as it's basically a regular bike with a motor. Lighter than most so it's easy to load into my van for transport. Adjusting the seat is giving me problems. When I adjust the height, it just slips back down to the lowest level no matter how tight I get the adjuster. Not a big problem for me as I'm pretty short legged. Others may find it quite a bother though. Adjusting the handlebar stem is easy, but it won't take any spot except 30° low, middle, or 30° high, Nothing in between. Not a biggie, I guess. On to the actual riding. Here is where it differs greatly from my last e-bike. AFAIC, the throttle should be active at ANY speed and ANY pedal assist setting to help with a small hill or other minor obstacle while riding. Not on this bike. The throttle is only active up to the established maximum speed of whatever pedal assist number you are set to. 7mph on PA-1, 9mph on PA-2, etc. However, the motor assist keeps on helping no matter what PA you are on! If you keep pedaling, the motor keeps helping. It's easy to get up past 15 mph on PA-1 if you are not careful. However, I found a way around this. If you keep the throttle turned the motor will cut off at the established maximum of the PA you are on. This makes it easy to maintain a constant speed while pedaling, but it is a bit uncomfortable on the hand to have to keep the throttle twisted. I can cruise all day at 9mph on PA-2 this way. I get a little work out as I still need to pedal if I want to speed up or climb a hill. You'll have to determine what speed you wish to ride and choose the gearing that lets you pedal a bit or not. I know what you're thinking: "This can be adjusted with the controller settings". NOT! The controller is the worst part on this bike. Apparently, a way to save cost was to install a cheap controller. There are only four settings available on it instead of the twenty or so available on a normal controller. You can adjust almost nothing. One of the things I really wanted to change was the number of rotations of the crank before the motor starts assisting. It takes six rotations now before the motor starts. I think that's way too many. You really have to time your pedaling when approaching a hill in order to get any extra help. Perhaps I make too much of these faults because they CAN become second nature and gotten used to after riding it for a while, I just don't think it should be necessary. One thing I was pleasantly pleased with is the battery life. My second ride was a VERY hilly 20-mile hike on PA-2 and the battery only discharged about 25%! I'm 73 and 200+ pounds so I don't think I'll be riding any further than that so the battery shouldn't hold me back at all. Considering the price, I guess a few faults should be expected and all-in-all this bike can be enjoyed well after getting used to them.
