5.0 out of 5 stars Make the ad5m look like a real printer

(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Printed the minimalist kit and all the parts worked well with it. The drag chain deal is kind of a pain along with the hot end wire routing but everything else works well

This was a definite upgrade for my Flashforge Adventurer 5M. Easy to install. It makes the AD5M just a bit quieter.

Works as advertised as long as your prints come out good you'll have no issues upgrading your ad5m

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite time consuming to make and put together. Much writer though

Make sure you know if you have the newer model. The sensor is in a different orientation than the old one. I didn’t realize this and printed everything for it. I was able to modify the spool holder for the sensor. It is time consuming printing everything for it and you will go through a lot of filament to make it. It is so much quieter with the enclosure on it. Would recommend slicing everything for PETG filament. When you try to snap the top pieces together they might break on you like they did me if you use PLA. Took me about 2 hours to assemble ones I had everything printed. Was very disappointed that it didn’t come with a small thing of glue for the magnets. Would definitely recommend this for your adventurer 5m printing but only giving it 4 stars because of how hard it was to find the plans on flashforges website and not being clear on needing a different file for the spool holder. The kit shouldn’t be as expensive as it is for what you get. I am happy with it but feels kinda cheap the top lid just sits on top wish it had some kind of hinges for the top cover

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to setup and you print your own parts for wide color personalization.

Very easy to install as all the tools and hardware is included. The fact that yopu need to print the parts except for the tubes and drag chain, the print quality of the parts and the color sel;ection that you have on your end is what will make your printer unique. You do need to provide your own glue to glue the magnets together but adhesion is great. It is worth buying if you find yourself having issues with thermal shock in your prints. For the functionality it provides much better quality prints for your printer as it keeps all the heat inside.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not well finished

Once you 3d printed the parts, it's an hour or two of your time to assemble. I suggest having the video from flash forge up so you can follow along. I didn't and I had to take pieces on and off a few times. I also suggest printing the risers one at a time so it's in the correct orientation. I printed 2 at the same time and the tabs broke while assembling. Not a big deal, I just left it and it seemed ok. The other riser pieces were really solid since I printed them one at a time and in the correct orientation. I needed to drill out the hole for the feed tube because it would go in as is. The front plexiglass just barely closes because the hinges tolerance is really tight where the glass meets the frame. There fit and finish issues everywhere. Not that big of deal since its not supposed to be air tight. The instructions are ok. You can reuse screws on some spots but the instructions won't say that. Use the guide tube provided as it's shorter, too much slack will bunch on either end making it harder to feed. Have super glue ready for the magnets. The spool holder revealed an issue masked by where the stock spool holder. Since there's no weight back there dampening the back plate, it now rattles and vibrates a lot. I suggest taping it down or wedging something in-between the back plate to eliminate the vibration. The spool holder and filament sensor is probably the hardest part to assemble, you need to change the orientation of the sensor and sandwich the holder with the guide arm piece together. Its definitely more quiet, however, maybe it's my particular unit but there's a lot of vibration noise from the new parts, which is worse than the stock noise. So I'll have to spend more time "cleaning" everything up. It's not that expensive and does what it does but it takes some work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Needs Orca Slicer

    M.O.M.T. · January 21, 2025

Pretty large number of parts you need to print in addition to those that arrive with the purchased kit.The only apparent file for the parts to print is in 3mf format which requires Orca Slicer to be installed. The parts cannot be printed with the FlashForge software.Getting Orca on my Ubuntu system was a complete failure. One of the longest running builds I have every seen. Pretty sure the Chinese are watch me now on all the libs that were installed (JOKE). But after several hundred build steps it failed. The contact us at Flashforge failed - so I could not directly send a message. Sent one using Gmail - if I get a decent reply I will edit the number of stars.

You have to print your own parts to make this kit work which is a nice feature. It comes with instructions to point you where you need to go or go to printables.
