5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent design and game play!
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I'm amazed at how well designed this product is. After playing a couple of times on it I can tell it's going to be one of my favorites! But I actually got it for my wife because due to a hand issue she is unable to play Sudoku with pen and paper. The display shows you how to set up each puzzle in a very clever way. Then as you play the game, the display gives immediate feedback letting you know if you've made a mistake after every move. I thought that since it was only a 6X6 grid, it might be too easy to solve. But, it is very challenging on the higher levels. And there are over 2,000 levels!!!! Amazing! I highly recommend this for any Sudoku fan! If you give it as a gift be sure to wrap it with 2 AA batteries as they are not included. I love this product and I'm very happy with my purchase!
5.0 out of 5 stars Addicting
I got this for my mom for Mother’s Day and I think I’ve played it more than her. It’s so fun and addicting!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for teaching sudoku
I love sudoku puzzles. Trying to teach sudoku is another thing, though. It's difficult to explain patterns and how to make deductions or inductions based on the numbers already in the puzzle. This game is a great teaching device! The numbers are colored and there is a tray that can be used to simply store numbers until needed or to point out patterns in numbers by having a visual cue through color. It's easy to point out a color that solves a square or line instead of explaining black and white on paper.About the game itself: it takes 2 aa batteries and powers on by long pressing the top button. There is a center control area to toggle through levels and challenges. The instructions are vague, and I didn't bother doing a search to figure it out. I played around with it and here's what I found:Follow the instructions for what each button does. When you get into a puzzle, there will be a single color in the top left screen that is laid out just like the board. The first is red on mine which corresponds with the number 1. Place the red pieces over the indicated spots and press the button. The color will disappear once it's placed and move on to the next number. * this sets the grid up for the puzzle. Once all the numbers are in place, the game begins. When a number is placed while in the puzzle stage, you must press the button/number as many times as the button says. On the top right, there is a number line that will light up the number you're indicating. If you place a tile wrong, it will x and buzz. A correct tile will prompt a check. The game is timed, so playing to beat your own time is easy. The game offers levels from easy, even having a 4 square layout for beginners, to extreme. I went for the hardest because I'm used to 9 square grids and this is a six, so a little easier. Some were a little challenging with my longest solve time being 9 minutes and my fastest being just under 3 minutes. The pieces that fit over the buttons can be used to improve dexterity and hand/eye coordination. *they can also slow you down, so don't get upset if your times are slower than you think you should be achieving. There is a battle option to play against other players. I didn't try this, so I'm unsure if it requires another device, or if each player uses the same device to best the time on the same puzzle.I enjoy playing this, and it's definitely a boredom buster without having to resort to screen time. I love being able to teach the principles of sudoku, and this has upped my teaching game (pun intended) to another level.** I had a house full of adults over the holidays and they had a blast with this game. They were claiming queues for a turn and kept exclaiming how amazing the game is. They were disappointed that I only had one game!
4.0 out of 5 stars Well made, but…
I have a couple other Giiker games: Super Blocks and Super Slide. I really enjoy both of those. I thought I’d feel the same way about this one, but sadly I did not. Let me start by saying the quality is great, just like the other Giiker games I own. The game felt like good quality and really looks nice overall. But I just couldn’t get behind this form of sudoku. Having played sudoku on paper for years, this was just missing something. In a way it felt like a process of elimination while snapping on different numbers until the right one was put on. So really I felt like it was just more a race against the clock rather than getting the numbers in the right spots. I was torn whether to keep or return it because, as I said, the game looks great, the numbers snap on nicely and it was good quality. But in the end I decided to return it as I just didn’t think I’d play it that often. Considering the price, it’s not something I want to spend that much money on just to use occasionally. For someone who never plays sudoku on paper, they may really enjoy this version of the game, but it wasn’t for me.
