5.0 out of 5 stars Appears to be a Very Good Bargain
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I just received these and have had only a short time to play with them. But I would say that these appear to be a great bargain, particularly with the current Bolo coupon. You have to be realistic and not expect that these will perform like $1,000 binoculars, but these seem very good for the price. The listing description seems quite accurate. They have a nice dark green finish. The image is very bright and clear and also performs quite well in low light. The adjustable eyecups work well (in for glasses, out for no glasses). If you can use the no glasses mode, it will be better. The right lens diopter correction provides a good range for people will different left and right eyes. The focus across the field of view seems very uniform and the focus adjustment is very smooth. As other reviewers have said, the mobile phone attachment is pretty basic. It is not something important to me. These binoculars do not have a tripod mount, but that is not something I would expect in this type of binoculars.Only time and extended use will tell how well these will hold up, but I am optimistic. As I used them more, I will try to update by review. It is indicated that these have an IPX7 waterproof rating, which means it should be good for 30 minutes of water immersion to a depth of 1 meter (about 1 yard). This is more than an adequate rating for use in wet weather. It does not provide protection against prolonged submersion, deeper submersion, or against water jets. But it is still good.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic quality binoculars at a relitivly low price!
Pros:Low price for well made binoculars, very clear and crisp, not foggy, when looking through the lenses. let's in a lot of light, nice rubber coating that's makes it easier to hold on to, has an attachment for cellphone to take photos of image, nice carry bag.Cons:A little to heavy to cary around the neck when hiking or a long time outdoors.I was skeptical to buy these from the relitivly low price and from the reviews. Reviews are just people's opinion. Sometimes reviews say that a product is good quality when, in fact, the product was not good quality. But when I first used them, they were fantastic for the reasons I have already written. I have had then for about a year. I have used them many times. So I have basically have "field tested" them many times. I think that they are made very solid. But, I also have a pair of light compact binoculars to hang around my neck for hiking and wearing them for a long time outdoors. That said, I would still definitely recommend these great binoculars!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great optics at such a reasonable price!
After using my Gigapenguin 15X52 binoculars for several weeks now, I felt that a more thorough explanation of my experience with these binoculars was called for.The Gigapenguin 15X52 binoculars is an obviously high quality optical device that delivers extremely sharp, bright images in all conditions. I’m a consumer products designer by trade and I was very impressed with the design and construction of the device. Generally, more reasonably priced devices like this are nowhere as solidly constructed. The case wall thickness is very robust and the heft of the device gives the new owner great confidence in a long term “relationship”. They are definitely a "2 hand” type of device. At a price that most people could afford for “pro-sumer” level optics, the issue of weight vs. optical power is a given. I can say that these binoculars are definitely NOT a candidate for being carried in one’s pocket. The soft injection molded foam eye cups are extremely comfortable and cushion my eye sockets very well. Having tried many other devices like this over the years, I found that I was generally not very satisfied with the comfort of the device against my face, much less a superior ability to “zoom in” for long distance images.Adding to my challenge to find a better quality device at a reasonable price was the fact that eyes are corrected to “mono vision” which can be a challenge for some devices BUT this pair does work extremely well. Monovision means that one eye is corrected to one prescription while the other eye is corrected to a different prescription. The challenge for me is that I am forced to depend on my brain “melding” the two visual images to form one clear image. Not understanding the finer points of optics, I was very impressed with my ability to see thru the Gigapenguin binocs as well as I do.My only suggestion as to how to achieve the very best binocular experience using these is that a tripod (not included) would make the viewing experience absolutely perfect. As one fixes on a distant target, the binoculars, being a solidly constructed as they are, are more challenging to hold stable……a tripod would address this issue and please keep in mind that ANY 15X52 binoculars will be similarly challenged.A point about the weight: while one should never drop the binoculars, especially on a hard surface, the construction of the binocs feels like it would survive an accidental stumble. I should know because I confess to having dropped them on our hard wood floor. I won’t make that mistake again but I mention it as a warning. High power binoculars are by their very nature, heavier than pocket size devices. I suggest using the included straps when using the device, just in case. I do the same thing when using my digital camera…….why take a chance? We live in an area overflown by both commercial and military aircraft and one of my “hobbies” is running outside when I hear the engine sound to identify the aircraft type. The higher in altitude the aircraft in question is, the harder it is to maintain the image in a stable manner w/o some minor movement in my hands. These binoculars are very substantial and definitely NOT lightweight, which makes the use of a tripod almost mandatory. While not the lightest binoculars that I’ve ever owned, the performance is so good that the weight is a reasonable trade-off. Helping your ability to securely hold the device, the molded-in hand grips are really comfortable to hold as long as you keep your expectations reasonable, again given the weight. The product is packed out with a really nice fitted nylon carrying case with straps, a lens cleaning cloth and protective caps for both ends. The instruction booklet included is well written and a help to the new user………read it once, at least, before you take the binoculars out to use. This binoculars also includes a cell phone clip BUT I didn’t purchase the device to use a cell phone with the binoculars so will not comment on how useful this feature might be.I’m looking forward to years of trouble free use!
Absolutely excellent binoculars
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I've been very pleased with these binoculars since they arrived. They're absolutely excellent quality. The phone attachment is simple to use, but somewhat of a pain to get on and off each time. However, such a bonus to have. It comes with a case and lens covers. Really lovely quality and nice to hold.
Disappointing
Not as good as they are described.Very disappointing 😞
