I blend up my ingredients and pour into freezer molds. Since I got this blender I have easily made at least 20 batches of treats in varying quantities, and it has done excellently. The hardest thing thats gone in has been frozen blue berries, im not sure how ice would do but I can't imagine it would be a problem. It's quiet, efficient, and one "full" container is a perfect portion for what I need. You do definitely have to pay attention to the minimum liquid line otherwise it won't do much, but even if you're a little over the top line it still blends everything very thoroughly. It's easy to clean if you don't use super thick ingredients. My only problems with it are really to be expected for a $20 blender. The blade is built in to the cup, so depending on what you blend it might be hard to clean. The lid can also be a pain to pry off at first but as I've used it I've gotten used to the amount of force you put behind it. Even if it kicked the bucket tomorrow I have definitely got my money's worth and I will probably pick up another one if/when this one goes out.

At first i was skeptical for many reasons, i read reviews before buying., It turn out that i only wanted it for making protein powder shakes so it shouldn't be a problem., i even put ice in it and does the job well, speed is what you paid for Not the best power, blend ability i'll give it a 7 out of a 10, not Noisy wich is great, the only thing i didn't like is that you have to stay pressing the botton for it to stir, about the Design i would've preffer for the blades be removed after you're done using it, im not to convinced drinking from the same cup that stills carried the blades is a little risky.

6/19/2024 Update. I reduced my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars because Hamilton Beach has another model (51190F) at the same price that address most of the weaknesses of the lid on this model (51101AV). It is called the Personal Blender with Leak-Proof Travel Lid. Oddly it is not available on Bolo at the time of this review update. The 51190F has a screw-on lide with a flip top and is called "Leak-Proof."After using the non-leak-proof lid model several times daily for more than a week, I noticed that liquid does leak out of the opening in the lid and the pinhole even when the lid is closed. This happened when blending 10 oz of liquid with ~50 g of powder or 12 oz of liquid with ~15 g of powder. It did not leak badly but more than a few drops.In addition to the occasional minor leaking described above, I found that removing the lid for clearning was a hassle every single time I use the blender. Each time I can't predict exactly how much pressure I need to apply to remove the lid and worry that I will splatter liquid by accidentally removing the lid to suddenly.Despite the above, I would still rate this blender 5 stars given its price. It is after all still very good when used several times daily. That being said, given that there is already a model available that addresses the main problems with the lid at the same price point, 5 stars can't be justified. The 51190F has a leak-proof screw-on lid that is available now and at the same price.Original Review.This review is based on using Hamilton Beach Portable Blender 14 Oz for mixing powdered shakes and beverages multiple times daily.I use this to mix powdered (protein) shakes and (electrolyte) beverages to eliminate clumps that remain when using a shaker bottle. It does that perfectly. Far superior to a shaker bottle, especially if your powder to liquid ratio is high.I did not use this blender to blend ice, frozen fruit, or anything other than powder that could otherwise be mixed with a spoon or shaker bottle.There are many individual serving blenders on the market. This product is unique:-Blades are at the bottom of the cup-Cup detaches from a base that plugs into a standard electrical outlet-Cup is a thick solid plastic with a wide mouth for ingredients-Most other individual blenders have an attached base and the blades are on the lid (you invert the cup when blending) which creates a risk of injury every time you put the lid on and off.Those features are perfect for my use case because:-I use this at home, so I don't need the base attached-I want to prep, mix, clean quickly multiple times daily-Cup detached from base is easier to handle when prepping, drinking, cleaning-Blades at bottom of cup keep my fingers safe when quickly repeatedly usingI previously used a shaker bottle and because I mix powdered beverages multiple times a day, I noticed I had to shake longer and harded multiple times every day in hope of eliminating clumps. This seemed like a risky practice over the long term, given it was every single day, multiple times. Vigorously shaking my body, arms, and even head so much seemed like a bad idea.The shaker bottle I used was the Helimax 2.0 Vortex. That is the best shaker bottle available in my opinion. It is effective at eliminating clumps, but it the powder to liquid ratio is high, like when mix multiple powders in a beverage, it requires more shaking and more vigorous shaking. It can be cleanded very thoroughly with minimal effort. There is not blender attachment that is difficult to clean and the surfaces are all wide open making it so easy to clean.This personal blender completely addressed my concern about using a shaker bottle so much.HAMILTON BEACH: THANK YOU!NOW SOME SUGGESTIONS / REQUESTS:LID.-Screw On Instead of Snap On. The lid is easy to snap on, but it takes effort to get it off for cleaing. With the uncertain effort it takes to remove the lid, every time I fear splattering residue from the lid/cup when I remove it. I would suggest referencing the shaker bottle I used previously, the Helimax 2.0 Vortex. Its lid is a screw on with perfectly engineered screw threads. Easy on, easy off, no leaks at all.-Thicker Material. Again, the Helimax 2.0 Vortex lid is a good reference. It has much thicker material.-Larger Hinged Snap On Cap Instead of Sliding Door with Hole. The sliding door seems to work, but I am concerned about residue building up under it even though I clean it immediately. Also, I noticed it has a pinhole in it. This makes me concerned about leaking in case the cup falls over. It did seem like the pinhole helps with flow when I drink from the cup, but a larger opening would be preferred. I am not sure if the pinhole also helps with blending when the door is closed. The opening in the lid is too small to drink the contents quickly. Helimax 2.0 Vortex has the perfect size opening with a hinged snap on cap. It us solid, easy to drink from, easy to clean, and I do not worry about spillage.-Protruding Opening Instead of Protruding Lip. The lid has a lip that protrudes into my mouth when drinking. This puts distance between my mouth and the opening to the lid. The Helimax 2.0 Vortex has a large round opening that protrudes in a cylinder shape about a half inch. Perfect for sipping slowly or gulping down quickly.CUP-It would good if the outside of the cup (not the inside) could be beveled. The smooth round shape on the outside makes me concerned it is going to slip out of my hand. The Helimax 2.0 Vortex has a beveled design that made me always feel confident when handling it.Overall this Hamilton Beach Portable Blender 14 Oz is beyond expectations at this price point and completely works for my demanding everyday use.

Love this blender! I watched several videos of all types of these portable blenders and I picked this one. It doesn’t disappoint. I received it about 2 weeks and I use it almost everyday. So easy to add ingredients. I use this for smoothies for me and my mom. To get a good mix I use some frozen fruit and fresh fruit. Plus I’ve experimented with adding different type yogurts, almond milk, juices, etc. The only thing is the top is very tight to come off but I believe it’s made that way to stay on when shaking. I love this and the price is unbeatable. I will give for presents.

I like it so far, been using it for about a month. Really cheap, yet really useful for it's price, no complains at all. While it lacks any kind of settings at all, whatever it has is actually made pretty good, at least it seems so to me. just drop in some stuff you like to mix, add some water or something else you want, hit the button for a bit of time, and you got yourself a nice drink.

Basic, but it does what it needs to. I fill it with 6-8 ounces of milk, a scoop of protein powder, half of a banana, and a little bit of chocolate syrup. It has enough power to mix it all up easily.I did read about it being hard to lock in place, and I somewhat agree, but I would describe it as just taking a forceful click to get it in place. I’d rather have it secure than spilling everywhere.The only con I can think of is that the chord cannot easily be stored in the base. You can jam it in there but it’s not a fun process. It’s not a good design in that aspect.

I've bought this same little blender 3x in over 20yrs. Ist one i bought at Canadian Tire for $12.99 on sale. I used it almost everyday & was very hard on it blending ice cubes too in my smoothies. It worked so well for maybe 6yrs & i guess i'd run it to the ground. So i bought a 2nd one on Ebay for $17.99 . same thing, i ran it to the ground & the glue that holds the blades on gave out & fell off the bottom of the the cup leaving an opening for fluids to come out. (I Laugh now because all of my half -mixed smoothie came outof the bottom and all over my counter. was pretty mad then...I suggest that you place it on something round & plastic like a plate just in case) So this is my 3rd one. (It's a pretty red like my microwave & kettle) It was a little more money but so worth it! So far it works well & I always think it's worth the extra money. I luv these things. It saves you from having to go out & buy an expensive smoothie everyday where you don't know exactly what's in it. I don't add sugar. better for me that i just make my own;-) ( i like to keep it simple, add a little plain keifer, some frozen fruit, & lots of water & i'm good to go.) Good luck!

My favorite blender

My mother, a friend, and I have returned time and time again to this blender. We had gastric bypass back in 2009 and at first there is a pureed food stage. That is when my love for the Hamilton Beach Personal Blender began. There are times when some foods are still tough for me to digest, so my blender is well used. Between making shakes, blending cold soups before heating them, mixing protein powders into foods, mixing up my pancake mixes and a ton of other things it gets well used, as does my mother's and my friend's. We have all owned more than one as over time the lids tend to crack. But hey for the use I put it through replacing it every 3-4 years is more than worth it to me. It cleans up easily and doesn't take up much counter space. I highly recommend it to anyone who may need to do pureed foods, as well as those who just need a good little blender for shakes and things.
