Alex Herron, known for his energetic music video directorial style, subverts expectation with a pensive, cerebral, slow simmer of a film.The story takes our protagonist from the midwestern/west/east/southern coast of America, into the urban centers of Norway and finally to a rural setting, where the film reaches its heart-pulsing conclusion. Brilliantly toying with audience expectation, the trailer promises a tale of heavy metal and occult satanism. Instead, the audience is treated to a labyrinthian plot with a multitude of exposition, ancillary characters and dozens, if not hundreds of McGuffins.‘Leave’ is a film that exposes the human condition for all its contradictions and chilling inclinations towards savagery. It’s a piece of art that poses existential questions about family, and the troubling potential for violence within each of us. I honestly thought it was a good movie. The storyline was awesome and the twists were unexpected, as they should be. The acting was great, although I will say the main character had trouble keeping her American accent. Other than that, it’s an overall feel-good suspense/horror story with a bittersweet happy ending.

The story was a bit dry. The ghost part of it wasn't the main focus at all. But I did enjoy it. Just turned out to be different than what I thought the movie was about. How the story ended up was unexpected. I didn't see the final part coming at all.

The storyline was suspenseful with some unexpected plot twists. Very good acting. Good sets. Beautifully filmed. Atmospheric. It was spooky and also poignant. More of an intelligent, understated thriller rather than a standard horror. I recommend.
