(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } It works as described. I've made salmon, thick and thin pork chops and chicken thighs and all have been cooked to perfection. Just make sure you weigh and measure the thickness of your food, then enter those numbers plus the number of items and desired doneness using the app and let it do its thing. At first I used a big metal pot that was in my kitchen, using clothespins to hold the ziplock bags in the water. Then I purchased an EVERIE 12qt. container with an adjustable rack and a Bonsenkitchen vacuum sealer and that made things easier. The app works well, just make sure you are using the settings for a Turbo machine. I use my own recipes, mostly with rubs, as opposed to the ones offered, but I DO use the time/temps it gives me to get a perfect cook. The learning curve is very shallow to getting good results. The device is well-worth the cost.
5.0 out of 5 stars What a great machine
I had never heard of Sous Vide cooking until we bought the Breville Joule Air Fryer and downloaded the app. When I was pairing the over to my phone they showed several devices and I wondered what this Sous Vide thing was. I had no idea how resturaunts made steaks and prime rib so perfectly. Being curious I ordered one. It came and we wanted to see how it worked so we pulled a frozen leg of lamb out, seasoned it added olive oil and sealed it ina bag and cooked it in water for 24 hours, it was frozen. Yesterday it was done popped it in the broiler for 10 minutes and was amazed at how absolutely perfect it turned out cooked equally well through the entire hunk of meat.It was easy to use, the app in my phone took us step by step through what we needed to do. Next we are going to see how it does witha pork loin.
5.0 out of 5 stars This thing works great!
I watch a cooking show for background noise while i read. I don't know if I can mention "Americas Test Kitchen" so I won't bring it up. I saw the do several different meats and thought it would be good, if it worksI have done shrimp several times. Juicy, tender not over or under cooked at all. Pork loin came out great. Chicken is amazing.I hole-heartedly recommend this machine. I'm 78 and don't want to spend all day at the stove. Set the temp and the time and walk away. you dont have to watch it to make sure you don't over cook it.If you are having problems with you electricity (We had power blinks for a few days after Helene) it clears the cooking program, just like it does with all the clocks. just put the temp and adjust the time and it'sgood to go.Lots of advice, tips and recipies online. just make sue the food is in a single layer, not stacked on top of each other. There are other machines that dont cost as much but I don't know anything about them. Lots of info online.
1.0 out of 5 stars The negative reviews are legit.
Update as of 9/28/2024: I initially contacted Breville support regarding the problems that I was having. I can honestly say that was a huge mistake. As others have stated, they feel that they make no faulty devices and the problem must be with the customer and/or the setup. I was told that my problems must have been with my wireless network setup. If that was true, the device should have lost the connection AND kept cooking. Their attempts at trying to diagnose my problems completely ignored the fact that it stopped cooking when it shouldn't. Support was totally inept and illogical.Having tried Breville support and finding that to be a big mistake, I figured I would go ahead and initiate a return & replacement with Bolo having only a few days to spare. I received the replacement within a few days, and immediately cooked a ribeye without any issues. I tried several more test cooks, and not once did I experience any of the failures I did with the first defective device.Having said the above, I won't be improving my rating of the product due to the issues I experienced and the dismissiveness of legitimate problems by support representatives of the manufacturer. Customers should expect and receive better, especially from a device that retails for $245.Today is 8/24/2024, and I was excited to try out this purchase just delivered. Initial setup was relatively easy in the Breville+ app for iPhone. I had it on the Wi-Fi network in a minute. The device immediately wanted to perform an update, so I let that finish which took a few minutes. At that point I decided to try a cook. I had a frozen pork tenderloin, and after the usual prep & choosing my settings, I set the device for auto and went about my other chores with a 1hr, 45min approximate cook time. Well, an hour later I noticed the device had stopped circulating. I looked at the app, and it had a pop up that it had lost Wi-Fi connectivity, but that it should continue with the cook--IT DOES NOT! The temperature had dropped down to 129 degrees from the 149 degrees as set, so I know it did not complete the cook. Thinking this may just be a one-off occurrence, I manually set the device for a 150 degree hour long cook. After coming back to temperature, the device ran for 10 minutes and again lost Wi-Fi connection and STOPPED cooking. Of course, it's still there because I could immediately restart the cook from the app, but you must go through the cook setup again. It's like the device is resetting every time. For $245, I expect better. I don't know how far the first cooking attempt progressed, but this is definitely not something you can just set and forget. I tried contacting support, but my gosh...it requires you input a serial number and model number. The model number on the box (BSV600PSS1BNA1) doesn't match anything in their support system. You must truncate the last 5 digits I suppose--they don't advise you in any way. You would think that after inputting a serial number that information would auto populate and not require manual entry, but I digress. Now, they want the device batch code which I'm guessing is on a label not prominently displayed while the device is submerged trying to do its cooking thing once again. What a mess!I'll try finishing this cook, and might try contacting Breville support once again; but I'm already leaning towards just boxing this back up for a refund and getting a manual device. I wanted to like this thing that has glaring positive reviews, but we're not off to a good start.
5.0 out of 5 stars It Works!
I’m new to sous viding. And now I’m kinda hooked on this method. I’ve done thick cut pork chops and they came out beautiful after doing a nice hot sear. I’ve also done lamb chops as well. Can’t wait to do steak or maybe a big pork butt. But I have faith now in this little circulator. Best part is no mess. You can use a pot, a bowl and or container so long as the circulator can stay upright and in place. It took me a moment to realize I didn’t need the stove at all. It was funny. I kept thinking I was going to be simmering water too until I got this home and saw that it does all the work.
4.0 out of 5 stars limited turbo recipes...The Turbo doesn't live up to the hype
I bought this Joule Turbo Sous Vide Machine as a Christmas present for my wife because we loved the original Joule and I was excited about the idea of being able to sous vide something in half the time. As far as immersion circulators go, I'd say that the Joule is amazing. I think that the Turbo is a gimmick that should have been a firmware update to the original and I have been extremely disappointed with how few turbo recipes the app has. If you don't already have a Joule, the turbo would be a good purchase, but I wouldn't recommend buying a turbo if you already have a Joule.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best appliance in my kitchen
Outstanding addition to my kitchen. This is my second one. Perfect food every time! Only way to cook steaks, chicken, pork perfectly
Perfect.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Perfect.
Please don’t buy if you’re in the UK!
This came with an American plug, item had to be returned after waiting 2 weeks for it. - disappointed friend on Christmas DayUpdate: I bought an adapter before returning, I went to the App Store only to be told that ‘This app is not currently available in your country or region’.As there is no controls on the actual Joule, this item is useless. Why would you even ship to this country when it can’t be used here?
Awesome Unit that Makes Cooking to Perfection Easy
The app is fantastic and takes the guesswork completely out of cooking your favourite meats and other foods. Video show the various levels of doneness so you know in advance exactly what you will see when you cut into it. Internal cook temperatures accurate to 0.1C! Highly recommend for making mealtime easy.
Exactly as described.
I have utilized this product approximately five times, and I am thoroughly impressed with its functionality. It operates flawlessly and operates with minimal noise. While I have not conducted a temperature measurement using a thermometer, the steaks I have cooked have been perfectly cooked.
Absolute garbage terrible support from Breville
The media could not be loaded. Owned a Joule before Breville bought them out. Got my new one and out of the box was faulty. It worked intermittently. Called Breville and after 6-7 emails , COUNTLESS phone calls and video evidence that the unit slowed down like it was losing power and water flowed to a trickle, they said it was working properly. What a joke, the worst customer service possible. And for almost $300 one would think u would receive superior support. Nope. Next time spend $120 for any other Sous vide/immersion cooker from China cuz it will perform better than this crap. Joule u disappointed me by partnering with Breville. What a terrible experience. Watch the video and tell me it’s working properly
