5.0 out of 5 stars Good for woodworking projects
I like the fine finish and clean up is quick and easy, also wagner customer service is great, had a problem with the 1.5 tip and they resolved the issue, what I don't like with the earlex 5700 is that it doesn't come with the cup that uncoated so I will have to purchase one for my projects I normally use automobile paint for my cabinets, spray quality I would rate 9/10
5.0 out of 5 stars Spray Port 6003 user review after multiple projects
When searching for a sprayer I could barely find any reviews for the Spray Port 6003, including here as most of the reviews were focused on the Earlex 5500. So here is my long winded review of the Spray Port 6003 for those who want detail from someone who's used it on a few projects.Like most people that are looking for a 3 turbine setup you wonder what the best bang for the buck is. Do I really have to spend over $1,000 for a 5 stage turbine? Do I have to get the blue color machine like everyone else on Youtube? All I was looking for in a machine was something that can spray water based finishes and produce a cabinet like surface. Long story short, this machine delivered that result. Here are the details:I have only sprayed water based finishes including primers. Reason being, it is water cleanup and it is easy. Which brings me to my first point... This gun is incredibly easy to clean. Sometimes between coats i'll just let the paint sit in there for up to an hour and no clogs. When i'm done I take it apart, spray some water from the hose bib in the cup, shoot some clean water through and then take it inside and clean with soap and water in the sink. From end of spraying until drying is about 10 minutes. There isn't a ton to break down when cleaning so it really is that simple.Paints I have sprayed:My goal with this was simple. All my clients want pieces made with hardwood or they want it painted white. I wanted to produce a white finish that rivals cabinets from a factory. I did that but here is a little secret, this gun will only perform as well as the paint you spray. I spray kilz water based primer thinned with water with a 1.5mm tip. I just add water and stir until it looks right, no viscosity cup, just until it falls smoothly off the stir stick. I apply three primer coats, more thin then thick to avoid making sanding more challenging. I sand with 220 in between the first two and the final primer coat I sand at 320. The next step is where the rubber meets the road. NOT ALL PAINT IS CREATED EQUAL. I didn't go to lowes and buy latex and expect a paint that is not designed to be sprayed spray like a lacquer finish. I bought a paint that is designed to be sprayed. Stop spraying latex, use latex on the walls, not furniture. I used General Finishes White Enamel (also sold on Bolo). I put it directly in the cup (through a filter of course) and I did not thin. I used the 1.3mm tip and let me tell you. I did it. After two coats of the general finishes white enamel I had the cabinet grade finish I have so strongly desired. Is the paint super expensive compared to the home center? You bet it is. does the extra $50 mean you get the exact finish you wanted? Yes. Buy the right stuff and you get the right results. I'll post pictures of the first project I sprayed. Conclusion:If you are looking for a gun that can spray paint that is designed to be sprayed then you will be more then happy with this product. I love it. The pieces I have delivered since owning this gun have had people comment immediately, "That finish is so beautiful". Yes it is ma'am. It really is. If you are determined that you have to spray un-thinned latex from the home center then buy the $30 gallon paint from the home center and spend the $1,100 on a 5 turbine unit. I prefer to put the money into the finish over the color of the machine.Side note, it will probably spray thinned latex. It sprayed primer after all. It will absolutely spray all polyurethanes and leave a beautiful finish. Buy the 1.5mm tip the moment you buy the gun. I spoke to an Earlex representative who said the 2 mm tip that comes with the gun is for "spraying the side of the barn". The 1.3mm that comes with the gun is perfect for poly and other thin type finishes.
5.0 out of 5 stars Earlex 6003: Perfection
The media could not be loaded. I own a small woodworking business and was looking to begin spraying my finishes. I used to own a hydrographics business as well so I was very familiar with HVLP sprayers to begin with but even if I weren't the Earlex 6003 would be EXTREMELY easy to learn and perfect.I have never purchased a tool of any kind that I did not have a single complaint about. Never. Until I purchased the 6003 pressure system. It is perfect. It leaves a flawless finish spraying thinned latex and primer as well as water based topcoat (I have sprayed General Finishes High Performance and Minwax Polycrylic).I loved the system so much that I purchased the gravity gun separately just for water based topcoat and let my pressure gun handle all the painting. I would 100% reccomend this to anyone looking to obtain a high level of finishing quality. Earlex has a customer for life in me and my business.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great DIY sprayer k
Painted two sets of kitchen cabinets and got flawless professional results. Finish is perfectly smooth. Only complaint is that the grip is uncomfortable in the hand. Very fatiguing and finally started holding in two hands to control the motion. The strong air flow takes some getting used to. It blows quite hard and it will blow away any masking paper unless it is secured well with tape. For cabinets I frequently changed between horizontal, vertical and round spray pattern with ease. They really help.
5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the $$
I paint furniture and kitchen cabinets ans this is by far the easiest sprayer if found. Its super easy to use , easy to clean and always sprays smooth !! Worth the $$$.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful velvety cabinets
With the 1.5 needle and appropriate dilusion, it applied the sw enerald cabinet/trim paint beautifully. Saw a complaint of air pressure. I did not have a problem. Paint volume adj with application distance and speed of application allowed for damn near flawless results. Could not be happier.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, works well
I’ve only used the sprayer with lacquer and polyurethane, the two main finishes I use in my woodworking shop. So I can’t comment on its performance with latex, but it works very well with those two. Appears well made and is easy to use. I had no trouble getting a good spray pattern, with just a few practice runs. Do have to make sure you tighten the cam lock that holds the canister to the spray head, otherwise it will leak. Only had it happen once before I realized the problem.
3.0 out of 5 stars Good for DIY
I had been using this since February and got good results which took work. I get a lot of orange peel with it which needs sanding, steel wool and buffing to finish off properly. The volume is very high and I do recommend wearing heaing protection. The hose is flexible which is really fantastic.I've just upgraded to the Fuji mini might 5 stage which is so much quieter and nicer than this but its also double the price. This machine is good for what it does but won't really provide you with the professional finish grade you're hoping for. I would rate this more as a DIY'ers machine more than a serious woodworkers or cabinet makers. It has served me well tho, with some effort.
Actually Works!!
Bought to paint 21 cast iron radiators & although each rad took a long time to paint well, it was very precise & there's little to no over spray & no toxic cloud around you, so very happy & a great tool to have.
Quality pro spec HVLP system.
Excellent product.
Quality system. But Earlex/Wagner branding does not help the customer experience.
I did not use yet the product but the first impression is very positive. The packaging is very good.Things are.not allowed to move on the box, something I like to see especially whith items quite expensive (considering my badget). The turbine is solid and no more noisy than my hoover. The all metal gun seems well balanced and made with quality material. I'll try soon the system with latex paint, a good challenge for any hvlp system. Hopefully the whole experience will just confirm my positive first impression. The 2.5mm needle/tips and aircap kit found in the box was a nice surprise for me, as it may make easier spray the latex without a lot of thinning. The gun is also provided with the 1.5mm kit (probably the go to needle for woodworking projects involving thinner paints). Why 4 stars and not 5?Getting information about this system is not easy. I spent one evening to find the viscosity rate (0-240 seconds but I did not find this info in the Earlex site or guides, so I'm going to find out if the info is correct or not). Why not adding few lines on this topic in the user guide? Also, I'm not confident to find spare part in the future. The website not very clear on this and if you Google around you find few site in US selling something....I think the lack of support I'm perceiving is mostly due to the fact the Earlex is now a.Wagner brand. Probably they did not sort out yet few logistic problen..hopefully things will improve in the future...Still the system cost considerably less of the 3 stages turbine made by Fuji...and the machine seem sturdy enough to guarantee a good number of free hassle years.I may edit this review after trying the system this weekend..wish me luck!!!
