I ordered this with a bit of hesitation as it was not expensive, but Philco is a brand I’m familiar with, just not with CD players. It is small compared to my old broken 1980’s CD players and I feared it would sound tinny. However, I am writing this review as I am listening to it and from the first CD I have been thrilled with the sound. I only wish this was a 5 cd loading player to make it even better, but I highly recommend it. I am keeping my fingers crossed it maintains this quality and continues to work.

The Stereo Shelf Systems by Philco, will provide a very functional stereo with entry level sound, quality and features, but still some pretty good value and performance considering. Here are some of the things I’ve learned while owning it and a few things to consider before buying.I. Quality – This is an average level stereo as far as the quality goes. Everything feels like it should hold up fine and it all works, but it’s not that hard to see its lower level of quality.II. Performance – It performs pretty good for what most people would ask of it. Everything has worked good including the CD not skipping. The Bluetooth connection was good with decent range, but not overly impressive. I like how many ways you can flow audio to this device, it covers most typical ways and a few old school ways, if your so inclined to use them. The speakers are loud enough for everything except rocking the house, but at 25W each they can only do so much. The bass, treble and highs are better than expected, but still limited by the watts and quality.Overall, this is a good bargain that offers a solid system for this level of cost. It’ll accommodate and probable surpass what most people would need out of it, while providing a good experience. I’ll be sure to update this review, if I ever start to have problems with it.You can trust that this review is simply my honest opinion that is attempting to provide you with helpful insight that I wish I had before I picked this product. Hopefully it was helpful in your decision

It played one CD through OK, but in the next play-through, it hung up on several tracks, wouldn't advance tracks, etc. I need a unit above all to play CDs, so this is completely worthless to me, unfortunately.

I think I'm like a lot of people when it comes to CD players. Thru the years, it just became easier to play your disc through your DVD player, rather than having two different devices hooked up. But as time went on and you realized that the sound quality coming through your surround systems was great for movies, you just didn't listen to your music as much because of everything you had to turn on just to do that. So basically I just stopped listening to my disc altogether. But come on, let's get real, most streaming quality for music off the internet is horrible and if you're like me, you've got a great collection of disc. Music is our walk down memory lane and I hated that it was just sitting on a shelf being neglected. So yeah it was time to break down and get a disc player. This Philco player is perfect. Bookshelf size with Bluetooth features and a USB port allows you to listen to your downloaded music as well as your Cd's. Now granted the radio antenna leaves a lot to be desired, but where I live reception is horrible anyway, so that's no biggie. And you're not going to be able to blow the doors off with this system, but so far, I've been very pleased with the quality of the sound. It is what it is. It's a small dorm room type system designed to conserve space. Yes it has it's limitations, but for what I wanted and needed, it works great for me. I can now listen to the music that I want to listen to in the comfort of my home without commercial interruptions or annoying the neighbors. Thank you.
