5.0 out of 5 stars Looks great
I purchased these to replace the outdated flush mounts in my place. I can’t speak to the installation process because I paid to have them installed along with several other fixtures in the house. But they look great (I don’t agree with other reviews that say they look cheap or flimsy. That just doesn’t appear to be the case) and the range of color and brightness is awesome. I will be purchasing another two for another hallway in my house.
5.0 out of 5 stars Easy install, great features
Well thought out product design with multiple install options. Very bright when you need it to be, but also great low light.
4.0 out of 5 stars Updated Ceiling Lights
Bought a couple of these to replace the old boob lights in our hallway. The install was easy enough – although it would’ve been nice if the lights came with screws & anchors to mount to the ceiling. The washers come in a small package and it’s unclear what they’re for. Once the lights are installed they easily connect to your Hue system. I do wish they were a little more flush to the ceiling (they hang down about a half-inch and you can see the mounting hardware from a distance). Overall, nice upgrade from the old boob lights.
5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for living room&bedroom, modern style and adjustable color
Attach an app view FYR. Really love it. It’s easy to install and use the app to control brightness and color. It’s better for our eyes( previous living room light from builder, I have to say, is a piece of garage)
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect light
Love love love this- easy install, great light- works well on bridge. Rub n buff gold leaf on the side is the perfect touch.
5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice looking addition to the Hue system — might not be so DIY though
I have a lot of Hue devices. By a lot, I mean I need three Hue hubs to manage it all. So I’m pretty experienced with the platform — and pretty heavily invested into it. Overall, I’m a fan of Hue products, but they are not perfect and some are better than others. And some are quite pricey! So on to this particular light…I wanted a ceiling light fixture and figured I’d check what was available in the Hue ecosystem, seeing this as a newer option. I’m always a bit mixed on whether I want a fixture that is harder to control with a normal physical switch, but since I had other Hue devices off of a Hue physical dimmer in that room, I thought I’d give this a try.Recognizing the Hue pros and cons, my impressions have been very favorable. But first, note that this is a big boy and requires a heavier duty ceiling mount than a smaller, lighter fixture. Since I didn’t have a ceiling fixture to replace, I had to hire an electrician to run wires to my ceiling — this one was just beyond my DIY comfort level. The electrician ended up putting in a ceiling fan box mount given the weight of the unit. That’s good for future flexibility for me, in case I ever want to replace this with a fan. But just note that if you are simply replace something very light, you might need to upgrade the ceiling junction box.Once it was installed, I was really pleased with how it looked. It’s quite low profile, albeit relatively large in diameter. But it’s not overwhelming the room by any stretch, even in a smallish room. When I went to the Hue app to integrate it into my system, I was surprised to see there were two lights found. One is for the down light — e.g., the obvious downward facing circular light. One is for the upward facing light that surrounds the perimeter and lights the ceiling in a ring around the unit. You can control each separately, as if they were two separate units, which is nice. And you have the full complement of color and white temperature controls, so you can create just about any combination of lighting effects. That’s really nice. The main downlight does put out some pretty good brightness. It’s not like operating room brightness at its max, but more than enough for my needs. But it’s also a very uniform brightness across the entire circle of the fixture. That’s really nice.So overall, this is a serious unit of a very high quality — as it should be for the price. Make sure you like how Hue devices work in your home in terms of control before you commit. I’m still deciding what I want my main physical control or controls to be. But that’s always a bit of the trick for Hue. I’ll figure it out — and then I’ll be really happy with this. And even in the meantime, I still am very happy with i.t
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and well made light you can do so much with!
The Datura light is an absolute marvel! The 22.6” version is a formidable fixture but the nearly $400 price tag is a little hard to stomach for something that looks so simple. However, the quality of the fixture, its capabilities, and performance justify the cost.I have man Hue bulbs throughout our home. This is the first Hue fixture I’ve tried, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The light is substantial and heavy, with a lot of metal used in its housing and hanging bracket. The lenses on the top and bottom are frosted plastic. The colors it produces are vibrant and accurate, just like the Hue bulbs. I’m particularly impressed with how evenly the light is distributed across the large disc. Unlike other lights I’ve used that have the LEDs just on the edge of the disk shining in, this light must have a full array of LEDs across the entire surface to produce such even and bright light. The light has a simple and slim design that easily blends in especially if you are mounting it against a white surface. The light it produces is what creates the drama and interest. I love being able to control color and brightness of the back light and the disc separately.I use Apple HomeKit to automate our house, and this light works seamlessly with it. Keep in mind that most Hue products require the Hue hub to use smart features. The Hue app ensures the light has the latest updates and provides access to some fantastic mood settings. These settings are even more impressive when you have multiple Hue bulbs or fixtures in your home doing the same thing. The automation options are endless, and I’ve been enjoying experimenting with color combinations.I assume the weight of the light is what makes it a requirement to install this with anchors into the ceiling or wall well outside the typical electrical box. For this to be held by an electrical box, it would likely need to be one rated for a ceiling fan and properly supported by wood beams. Installation is straightforward, but if you’re not familiar with electrical work or the necessary anchors, it may be more challenging or require professional assistance.Overall, I highly recommend this product, but I wish it were a bit more affordable.
