He can easily fit a belt, shoes, clothes, water bottle, etc... without it being too bulky. It won't hold a lot more than that, so go with a bigger bag if you think you are on the fence with this one.

This bag held up for an entire school year for my middle schooler. Purchased other bags in the past they last of maybe a couple months until the string ripped off from the weight of all the materials they have to carry. Would totally buy again.
