Description:
Review:
5.0 out of 5 stars Pricey but comes with the expected Cable Matters quality and work in all modes.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } (At the time of this review these were selling for $28.99 for the .8m length - hopefully this will decline)Recently I purchased a Thunderbolt 4 system, docking station, and accessories and had to shop for cables that could support all USB and Thunderbolt data and charging modes. These are the first set I've purchased that actually consistently work at the maximum data throughput and power output supported by whatever they are connected to.It is a bit frustrating to once again be dealing with a set of standards where all USB C-type ports, cables, and accessories are different and not-necessarily backward compatible. It also means that we will likely be seeing more off-brand products misrepresenting their capabilities to get an Bolo sale. I would especially shy away from "USB 4" cables "claiming" to also be Thunderbolt compatible but lacking the certification as two other less expensive, generic cables I picked up were basically heavy-duty USB cables that could not consistently operate with genuine Thunderbolt devices. The price at the time of purchase was a bit off-putting as getting a pair of these into my road-warrior bag was a $60 investment, but as I've come to expect from Cable Matters products they are very well constructed and work as advertised. If you need the speed, power, compatibility and want to carry as few cables as you have to for traveling (or simply need true Thunderbolt 4 throughput and power), these cables will get the job done.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works well, looks like it should last
Good quality cable
5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy
Use this in my Silverdo.. Great quick and realiable connection. Super sturdy. Probably a little overkill, but I like it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Finally enough power delivery
I've been using this cable with my 2019 MacBook Pro (4 Thunderbolt ports) and it's been a game changer. After months of frustration with various docks, KVMs, eGPUs, USB dongles, and a mountain of cables, nothing seemed to work reliably. I tried 4 docks, 3 eGPUs, 2 enclosures, and countless cables. Just as I was about to give up, I found this cable in my laptop bag, a backup I had ordered and forgotten about. Plugging it in, all my connectivity issues disappeared like magic. Most other Thunderbolt cables in this price range are braided, stiff......thick.....When shopping for "the best cable", you look at these cables and think "oh yeah this chonky boy will do" but it won't. It won't do.This cable is different. It's smooth and surprisingly flexible, it doesn't tangle easily, and the connectors slot in with a reassuring consistency. There's never any doubt about whether it's plugged in correctly. Despite unassuming appearance, it's rated for 240W power delivery and 40Gbps throughput (and it will indeed step up to the plate when needed)In a setup plagued with compatibility and connectivity issues, this cable emerged a hero. Whether it was a stroke of luck, divine intervention, or something I overlooked, this cable defeated over $500 of extra gear and a pile of other Thunderbolt Cables. For it's unwavering consistency, reliability, and overall performance, this cable gets a full 5 stars no question.Buy this cable.
5.0 out of 5 stars This one works great.
This is the one. After trying many different cables. I finally found one that works well with my tb4 enclosure. I needed a longer cable. The one that came with my enclosure was too short. I was not paying over a hundred dollars for a tb cable. When this works just as good.
4.0 out of 5 stars As advertised
Works well as intended.
5.0 out of 5 stars Functionality
Thunderbolt 4 from Cable Matters does the job very well and efficient.
5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great on a Kingston SD5600T Dock.
Worked great on a Kngston SD5600T Dock. This dock claims it may not be compatible with other Thunderbolt Cables but it worked perfectly with it.
Great cable... with one caveat for Samsung SSDs (it's bad news)
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I bought this cable in the high hope that it would fit into my Samsung T7 Shield 4TB SSD. Now, please bear in mind - I've previously had bad luck, with many cables, including from many different brands - it seems to be a quality control issue on Samsung's end. Many - most - cables are very loose, don't fit properly and hence disconnect very easily, which is terrible for the SSD. I have only ever found one single cable that is suitable. My test for whether it "fits" is to plug the SSD into the cable, hold it up, hold it there still for 15 seconds or so, let it hang there on its own weight, and give it a shake around... along with just generally using it, moving my laptop around while it's plugged in, et cetera. This cable failed the test - before I'd even started testing it. I plugged it in, and it instantly just fell out, disconnecting without me ejecting the drive, hence risking the drive formatting itself or me losing all of my data (that's how loose it fits - Macbook Air M2 to Samsung T7 Shield). Now, the strange thing is that I ordered this exact cable but braided, in both the 1 metre and 50cm length. The 1m length fits well - which is a godsend. But naturally, that is way too long for me to simply plug in my SSD. Frustratingly, and expensively, the 50cm - the braided version, I mean - for god knows what reason - is as loose as anything and is unusable with the SSD.So that is the caveat. Great cable, but beware - if your SSD/HDD is like mine, this may be a bad choice. I'm writing this in the hope that it warns someone with similar issues. However, I bought this cable knowing that a) it is not braided and seemingly a different model, albeit from the same brand, and I hence thought I had a good chance it would fit well, and b) there were zero complaints in the comments about this specific cable being loose (or anything like that). Sure enough, it arrived, and it's too loose. So I will either keep it for other products and uses (e.g. charging my phone with a power bank - it fits perfectly into all other ports, Macbook Air, various power banks from UGREEN and Anker, various adapters etc).So yes, 5 out of 5 stars from me, with the caveat being that I can't use it for the purpose that I bought it for. I'll either keep it, as I said, or I'll return it. It isn't a big deal. Importantly - the quality of the cable is palpable and the length is perfect for the reason/s stated (e.g. plugging in a HDD/SSD). It transfers data very quickly and charges very fast. But yes, if the metal adapter was just the tiniest smidgen longer, it would fit perfectly. But I do truly think that's a fault on Samsung's end, as the problem extends beyond Cable Matters to other brands, including famous and expensive ones (I won't name any, but I've tried at least five of the "big" brands) - and people online have complained about the same issue, with the T7 Shield, others say they have no issues at all.In hindsight... going for the T9 would've been insane, purely to avoid this issue. The T5 was too slow for my needs. So I'd have to ditch Samsung, etc, and I just had no idea that a $500 AUD SSD would have this issue. Such a shame.
