I adopted a traumatized rescue dog that was terrified of having his nails clipped. For the past year and a half, the vet has had to completely knock him out every month and a half to trim them. I, nor the vet ever considered a grinder because the sound is somewhat jarring and we assumed he would be more afraid of that than clippers, if that was even possible. When I was informed the general anesthetic would begin to damage his kidneys, I took a leap of faith and purchased this nail grinder. Voila! He actually likes it! He even gets excited when I show it to him, he gives me his paws without hesitation and it works great. I wish I would have tried it when I first adopted him, it would have saved so much time, money and additional trauma!
4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely very quiet but lacks power needed for large breed dog's nails
Just got this. Charged it. Turned it on. At first, my lab thought it was a new dog toy. I got some chicken out of the frig and took advantage of the situation. He and my other lab soon figured it out, WAIT it's the nail thingy. BUT, with the chicken I was able to get each of their front dew claws. It wasn't a great job with jagged edges. I felt very limited with the cover on the grinder. And, the nails aren't short enough because that would have taken forever. This little device just doesn't have enough spin power for these nails. Anyhow, I will take off the protective top to get the edges smooth on their nails. The true test will be my Great Dane which I think she will certainly appreciate the device being quiet but it will take too long due to lack of power and her patience will run out.

This has adequate power. I can see as my dog grows i'll probably just spend the money to get a real battery powered dremel but since I only paid $11 for this thing if it breaks tomorrow... whatever. It grinds albeit slowly.The worst part is I'm a right handed person. out of the box this thing rotated clockwise (when looking directly at the head). So when I hold it like a pen it grinds downward and the head skips and chatters on my dogs nails which freaked her out. I had to reverse the polarity to make it rotate counter clockwise so it grinds smoothly. (See picture). Super simple to do, not much to it, 4 screws and pry it apart. If you've never even held a soldering iron you are still capable of easily swapping these cables to make it rotate opposite direction.If you're left handed this would be just fine for you. However my guess is quality control probably doesn't care enough to get polarity right since there were no markings on it indicating + or - so I would assume they don't all rotate the same way out of the box. Just something to be aware of.

I read reviews, but never write one. This is my first. I'm a previous owner of Pedi Paws. It was a gift. My 100 lb Pitt, was not a fan. He didn't like the sound and it took too long for him. My dogs nails grow so fast, it was difficult to get them as low as he needed. His nails are long and fairly thick. He does a lot of high jumps onto my bed, in and out of the car. I have found his nails bruised sometimes, cracked, and sometimes he's biting on them. After charging the device, I turned it on and he jumped, he looked at it, came towards it and surpringly didn't jump out of the bed and start running. I got a towel and laid it under his paws. He did jump again when I turned it own, but didn't run. I told him to just relax. One I began, him was fine. I love the versatility of it. I can easily edge the sides and underneath the nail to remove those fine slithering pieces. It is so fast that I was able to get his nails lower than I ever have, before. I was able to do all 4 paws within 30 minutes or so. I definitely recommend this product. I thought it was a bit pricey, but It's worth the money.

I have a 50lb Catahoula leopard dog who, prior to my owning her, had never had her nails touched. She is terrified of nail clippers (I've never hit her quick) to the point that she runs, hides, and growls if she sees them picked up. She has the most insanely thick claws I've ever seen and super long quicks. For whatever reason, she wasn't scared at all of this nail file! It's quiet, and only takes a little off at a time but I expected that with her monster nails. It took about 30 minutes to finish one foot (including a very long dew claw). I stopped because she was getting sick of it and didnt want her to hate this thing too. The opening on the safety tip was way too small for her nail so I took it off and felt I was able to control it much better. I took it off again when I used it on my cat because his claw kept slipping and I didn't want it getting yanked and stuck. It took about 2 minutes to do 2 of his feet. Really easy to use, came charged and stayed charged through using on both my dog and cat. (First pic is the paw I filed, second is the untouched paw, third pic is a happy dog!)

Oh man where to begin. My old dremel (which I loved) after 5 years wore out. So I searched for a replacement, one specifically for tough nails. And this seemed it would be fine. Boy was I wrong. After using for a couple of months it’s proven again and again that it isn’t up for the job. I have a 50lb border collie pit mix. It’s gotten to the point where her nails are so long because I hate using this thing. No matter how long I charge it (and then immediately use it) if input any pressure to help grind her nails. The rotating head will just stop. But then if I put no pressure and just let the drill so it’s thing, nothing happens. It used to take me like 5 minutes to do all her paws. Now it’s like 5 min a paw. And she gets stressed and it’s not enjoyable for everyone. She has black nails? I don’t know if that’s important or not, I didn’t think so but who knows.
