5.0 out of 5 stars Quality axe for the price

    J.M. · June 11, 2021

(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } This axe is a pretty sturdy axe that throws nicely. Upon some intensive testing, we did find that the handle may be starting to crack but that is after deliberate and repeated attempts to throw it incorrectly to find out how durable it really is. Overall very happy with this axe for beginner throwers and we even ordered more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Throw better

    M. · July 26, 2019

Cold steel axes, (either the Axe Gang or the new competition model) are great for throwers who do not over rotate when they throw. Any Axe handle can break but I have been throwing mine almost daily at home and at Urban Axes without issue since I got it. In fact, I have thrown a Cold steel Axe throughout this past NATF league season 3 (Tuesday and Wednesday nights) and have had no problems. About half of the 24 players in past 2 sessions use the Cold Steel axes and no one has had any issues either. In total I have 5 of these axes of varying handle lengths 13 1/4" - 17" each one has performed well. There are 3 rule to axe throwing, 1. Don't be stupid 2. Drink More. 3. Just throw better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely accurate thrower

    T.G. · January 24, 2023

I just got into axe throwing last week at the bar. I really enjoyed it so I built a target and bought this axe. It is very sharp and accurate right out of the box.My first 3 throws were all bulls eyes...at about 13'...I'm dead serious. Of course, this is compared to a Kobalt camping hatchet...but it is still a "point and shoot" axe...if you're steady, it will hit what you are staring at.I guess I could be one bounce away from a broken handle, but oh well...the things are relatively cheap...my other addiction is mtn bikes...compared to that ludicrously expensive nonsense, axe throwing is practically free.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much fun!

    J.H. · January 6, 2025

Crazy fun to throw! I got bored throwing at a single rotation distance...now I'm accurate at 2 and 3 rotation distances. Handle and head have held up to tons of abuse and it still works great! Gotta buy a couple more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid axe

    K.B. · May 24, 2020

Solid axe. Def a dif caliber thrower than the SOGs I was using.. Probably won't last at long as the metal SOGs but it just made me finesse my technique. Marked a one and two rotation distance and it sticks a lot with low force throws. Without doing that you're more likely to hit the handle and break it

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Axe

    N. · March 12, 2022

I bought this axe after joining an axe throwing league and realizing I was the only person using a borrowed hatchet. I asked around to see what everyone else was throwing, and most people had a cold steel.I picked the competition thrower. I wanted something that was ready to throw straight out of the box and I didn't want to mess around with cutting down the handle of the axe gang. The blade is nice and thin, so it sticks well. I have also had no trouble with the handle. I'd only gone to throw axes twice before I started using this, so it's taken a beating and hit the floor many times. It has a few little nicks in the blade, but nothing major and the handle is still in one piece. No issued here with durability.I will say it's a bit heavier than the axe I'd borrowed. It took awhile getting used to the weight of it, but after some practice it wasn't an issue. I usually throw two handed. But I've been trying a one-handed throw and I will say with the length and weight of this axe, it does feel a little unwieldy in one hand.I'm used to this axe with the handle as it is, so I don't want to mess with it. But I'm tempted to pick up an axe gang and try cutting the handle to experiment with different handle lengths.Over all, great axe. It's sturdy and throws well, and I'd definitely recommend it

3.0 out of 5 stars Cold steel quality heads, not cold steel quality handles.

    J. · April 5, 2024

The axes throw wonderfully. I purchased three. The issue is that they are not appropriately fitted to the handle. As you can see in the pictures, the handles slid up through the eye of the axe. It was definitely not a one off issue.I split the handle on one of the axes, and ordered a replacement. The handle, which I'll cover in a review separately, does not come with the wood wedge or the metal wedges to replace it. Also, other hatchet handles will not work. You have to buy a Cold Steel replacement or shape your own.Overall, the axe heads are cold steel quality and worth five stars. The handles and the assembly... 2 stars at best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great hatchet for the money

Very similar to the Axe Gang Hatchet (which I have), bought 2 years ago last week and still enjoy it. Sticks very well into the target.

    Good quality

    Axe broken on first use

    M.H. · October 22, 2023

The handle broke on the third throw on the first day.

Love it, changed my whole game!

    s.t. · March 4, 2020

This axe has completely transformed my game! It is plenty sturdy enough for the way I throw, but if you are one of those throwers that really whips it, I could see this handle possibly breaking on a mis-hit. That’s probably why some of the reviews say that it is too flimsy, if you are a softer ‘flick’ type thrower you’ll be fine. Needs to be shortened, but not everybody likes the same length, so there is plenty of extra to work with until you find the right size for you.

    Good axe for decent price.

    A.C. · December 5, 2019

Alright. So if you are using this for NATF..handle is a bit long..and you will need to sharpen the axe a bit more. That being said..this axe travels well. The release feels great. When throwing I would suggest about..35% power when throwing. It doesnt take much when sharp for it to bite a target.8/10

Throws well, handle could be more durable

    C.B. · November 6, 2019

The axe is great for competitive axe throwing. Well balanced, meets regulations, throws well. I would give it 5 stars but the first time the axe bounced off the boards instead of sticking, the bottom of the handle cracked and chipped. I'm not sure if I'd buy one again as the are many options around this price range.
