Combine 1 ½ cups of water, 1 cup rice and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat. Let stand covered for a few minutes. Fluff and serve. Basmati rice may also be soaked for a minimum of 30 minutes before cooking to improve the flavor and texture. If doing so your cooking time will be reduced. A rice cooker may be used with the same water-to-rice ratio.
