5.0 out of 5 stars anytime use, great for topping dog/cat kibble, quick meals, lazy meals, emergency meals

If I really dont want to make a special trip to store and somehow have run out of chicken at home, then I can dip into this for a handful of chicken cubes to add to my dish. I use this brand and a couple of others. Nearly all the same to me.Further, I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. I always add bits of chicken to top their kibble off with. Hence why I may find myself suddenly out or short on chicken. I go through a lot. Having back up in the form of freeze dried chicken has been ideal. My cats arent much for eating straight chicken, but I can take a cube and press it between my thumb and finger to have an intriguing cascade of white chicken powder rain down onto their wet food or dry kibble. Magic!I add a little water to rehydrate, or I pinch it to make dust. Just depends on what it is for, when it is for, and who it is for.My container is not dust. But dust will happen toward the bottom, no matter the brand. It will take me awhile before I see this, so in mean time all I see are cubes. Since I use this primarily for my dogs and cats, they really dont mind what form it is in. If I were using this exclusively for myself, I would be pleased with how it looks. When I use it, I usually just toss in a handful to a large mug of sipping broth. It is perfect for that.Or one of my quicky faves: I love chicken pot pie. I dont always have the stuff to make it. Or I dont want to. But I do love taking a can of white beans (navy, cannellini, or garbanzo) and processing it with my immersion blender with a little water or broth (water and dry bouillon usually) to make a "gravy" (takes seconds), then add seasonings, some frozen mixed veg like that is seen in pot pies, and warm it all up. I toss in some chicken cubes. VOILA. Healthy chicken pot pie guts. Doesnt take like beans. If I really want a bread/crust/pie vibe, then I will have a slice or ten of toast to dip. Or canned crescent rolls, something like that. I suppose now we are venturing into chicken and biscuit territory.I dont rate on price, but I comment. I thought $51 for 19 ounces was reasonable compared to some options. I try to get most bang for my buck by comparing price per ounce. This happened to be pretty good at time, so I bought 2. (Their price for a 4 pack bundle is NOT a savings at all, so be aware).

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality chicken that I use for my dog.

I can't speak to using it in camp food or home food. My dog loves it, and it's a good softer texture for him. It does come with a high ration of powder since it is not overly hard, but it's not an issue for our use. It doesn't have salt and is precooked to get rid of any salmonella, which is why I prefer it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not All Freeze Dried Beef Is the Same????

    C. · October 12, 2024

No, I’m most definitely NOT a “prepper”, but realizing that during a large scale emergency we can’t always expect the government and NGOs to come blazing to our immediate rescue, I’ve been slowly laying in a stock of freeze dried food in #10 cans. I realized, however, that many of the standard, just add boiling water one pot meals are relatively low in protein and high in carbohydrates, so I decided to supplement them with freeze dried meat, also in #10 cans, serving size portions of which can be added during the reconstitution process.I figured that “freeze dried meat is freeze dried meat” so I first purchased Nutristore product, which came in at a slightly lower price point than the tried and true Mountain House brand. During an Bolo Prime days, however, I found that the price on Mountain House diced cooked beef was slashed by around 35% so I grabbed an unplanned can. When I received the can it felt “different”; lighter than the matching Nutristore diced cooked beef, which triggered some label comparisons.• #10 can of Nutristore contained 600 grams, 24% more than the 482 gm in the Mountain House can.• Nutristore had 25 24 gm 130 calorie servings, Mountain House had 15 32 gm 140 cal servings• Nutristore beef had 0.3 gm total fat per gram beef, close to 3 times as much as Mountain House’s 0.08 gm total fat per gram beef.• Nutristore had 21 mg sodium per gram of beef, 35% less than Mountain House’s 28 mg sodium per gram beefAs I was planning to only add portions of freeze dried beef into various freeze dried meals, and consequently NOT using a large portion of the can at once the one other consideration is that Mountain House says that remaining contents needs to be used within 7 days of the can being opened. Nutristore, however, says that as long as the container is promptly closed and stored properly the contents of an open can should be good for 6-12 months. My conclusion – gotta pick your poison – Mountain House product has a lot less fat but more sodium. Nutristore on the other hand will hopefully do better if I’m only using a scoop or two at a time from the can. And I’m gonna go lie down because my brain’s gonna explode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convenient

I wanted to have sausage on hand for queso dip but didn’t want to rake up room in the freezer, so thought i would try these crumbles. They needed more time soaking in water than the directions said, but the flavor was good. I separated it into 1-cup servings and vacuum-packed the rest of the can. Think the directions need to be modified to add extra soaking time, but overall I am happy with this purchase

These beef dices were pretty tasty, especially in things like soups and stews. Since they are pre-cooked, it takes less time to make a meal. I've used them in canning vegetable beef soup and felt they tasted even better over time.

Great product but believe companies are price gouging at this time
