5.0 out of 5 stars Good wicking material. Variety of uses.
Works as it should. Used this in a concrete pour combined with brick that was designed to water internally and come out the flashing at the bottom, but we could not incorporate the flashing. So I used tubes on the inside of the poor to match up with the brick and I wrapped the tubes With this wicking material and let the wick hang out the bottom where flashing would’ve normally been placed. It works perfectly. Now during the change in seasons, the concrete will work similarly to the 6 x 12 brick that the house was built with in the 1950s and the moisture can get outside. You don’t have to leave a Tail. You just cut flush and don’t mortar over the end. This would be very useful for watering plants or getting moisture out of a place that you have trouble accessing like a void in a boat. You could drill a small hole put this inside and let the wick pull the moisture out to the larger atmosphere. This could help prevent or slow rotting that happens inside voids on boats. Small boats, of course.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for wick/bottom watering
Works great. No issues with mold or deterioration. Just remember to fuse each end with a flame to keep it from unraveling prior to placement in a flower pot. Will buy again.
4.0 out of 5 stars Watering system to be used outside or inside with a plant placed on top of a water container
This watering system is easy to install and should work well if used outside or inside as long as plants are placed above a water container. It did not work for me because I tried to use the rope inside with a water container placed next to the plant (instead of underneath), and some water was dripping on my counter from the part of the rope which was not in the water container or in the plant.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect solution to thirsty plants / holiday watering - but needs careful setup
Large quantity. Works much better than I expected. 3 uses: 1) will wick water from the saucer back in to the pot! 2) poke into the bottom of a pot and place the pot into a larger bowl / reservoir with something underneath the pot to raise it up a few inches. Will wick water from the reservoir into the soil. 3) holiday use - placing this in a bottle / vase next to the plant BUT warning! make sure the saucer below the plant can hold overflow! I misjudged while testing an flooded a desk. The level of water in the reservoir can't be higher than what is holding overflow underneath the plant, = reservoir needs to be lower than the saucer.
5.0 out of 5 stars LIFESAVER for your indoor forest
The media could not be loaded. If you’re looking at this products, it’s because, like me, you have a few plant babies, some of which are either too meaningful, too large or let’s face it, too EXPENSIVE to die! Listennnnnnn!!!! I buy a ton on Bolo and I rarely leave reviews, but hear me when I say, this simple “string” is THE TRUTH! I have TWO Thai Monsteras, an Anthirium Michelle, A Ring of Fire, an African Milk etc., ie plants that I just can’t buy again without spending $$$. Of course I also have many others (approx 30) that call me mum.I needed to travel last minute for two weeks and it was paining me to think that my babies would suffer while I’m away. I searched and searched for options and the reviews on some of these contraptions (globes, water bottle slow drip terra cotta bla bla) gave me anxiety. And then, and thennnnn friends, I saw this. This STRING! The educator in me was curious and doubtful and hopeful all at once!I bought it.And after two weeks the only thing I needed to replace was my table cloth and its plastic cover! Dead plant where?!? Dry plant where?!?It’s honestly the SIMPLEST thing! For me, I put the majority of my plants on dining table and filled up 3 large containers with water. I arranged them to my best thoughts, though when I do this again I will tweak a bit. I measured enough string to have it lay flat in the bottom of the container and be able to make a “c” in the pot, that way I could ensure the bulk of the dirt was moist. I then pre soaked each string, arranged it in the pot and left the other part in the container with water. The string functions well and retains water quickly. And for two whooooole weeks this was enough for my babies!DRY PLANT WHERE?!? DEAD PLANT WHERE?!?!For the most part, soil was moist, not wet but in the smaller plants/containers, you could tell they were watered. I did come back to one container dry but I think it’s because I designated too many plants to it as the other two still had water left. I plan to reuse, hopefully they can get more than one use. I really wish I had taken photos, but hey, take this old 40something at her word. This STRING is all you need. Well buckets of water too 🙃
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for long trips
Such a simple and inexpensive thing, yet it works surprising well for keeping plants alive during extended trips. I was worried about root rot, but that didn’t happen at all. My biggest advice is to set it up a few days in advance so you can troubleshoot. I had to elevate some of my lower pots so that they didn’t overflow, and some of my taller plants just overflowed anyway for some reason (quicker draining soil?). This made for a stressful travel day because I didn’t allot enough time to work out the kinks. That’s on me, though, not the product itself.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wichita rope
Excellent product
3.0 out of 5 stars It really didn’t do much for my application.
I tried using the wicks to water my cannabis plants while I was on vacation for 4 days. I came home and my plants were droopy, they were only about a foot tall so I figured the wicks would work. Unfortunately when I felt the wicks they were dry. I had three wicks in each plant container coming out of a five gallon water bottle. I might have had it set up wrong so it could have been my fault. I think if you put the water container above the plants it might work.
Watering without being there.
Worked well while I was away for 2 weeks. Tomatoes survived. Easy to set up ready to go.
Really works. Fun but tricky. Practise first before use it on a real plant.
This self-watering wick cord truly works —easy to set up but just as easy to get wrong without proper preparation. If you’re new to using self-watering wicks, I highly recommend dedicating at least three days to understanding how it works and adjusting it to suit your needs. Reading the instructions carefully is crucial. I ordered a thick cord, and as a thoughtful bonus, the package included a thinner cord, which turned out to be extremely helpful for my setup. The effectiveness of the wick largely depends on your environment and how closely you follow the instructions. In my case, living in the hot and slightly humid climate of Australia (30–36°C), I found that the wick delivered water too quickly for my small plant, which only requires 120 ml per week. To address this, I experimented with the included thinner cord. Here’s what worked for me: I tested the wicking process by transferring water between two containers rather than directly watering my plant. By gradually adding ***tight*** knots to the cord (ensuring the knots remained above water), I managed to slow the water flow to an ideal rate. Once I was satisfied, I replaced the receiving container with my plant pot.If the water transfer rate is too slow without any knots and you want to deliver water faster then you may need to use a thicker cord or multiple cords simultaneously. Testing your setup thoroughly before using it with real plants—especially if you’re preparing for a holiday—is essential.Although I was tempted to deduct a star for the tricky initial setup, I realised that this would be unfair. Much like a great guitar in the hands of a beginner, the potential of this product shines only when you take the time to learn how to use it effectively. For me, this cord is a 5 stars.
Funciona!
Funciona! Tenía muchísimas dudas, pero es el primer verano que no se me muere ni una planta. Debes poner recipientes lo suficientemente grande y asegurarte que el cordón se queda fijo en la planta, ya que al coger agua se hinchará y pesará más y puede caerse. Encantada. Bueno bonito y barato
