5.0 out of 5 stars More affordable than Kreg, but hardware quality feels the same.... (but no automaxx tech)

The first reviewer said it doesn't have clamping power, but I'm wondering if the user knows how to use the tension knob. Because I have this clamp side by side with the Kreg version and this thing clamps just fine. The other review complains about not having a base, which is not a review of the product. These bench clamps are known to be sold without bases, the product picture even shows NO BASE.Anyway, lets get on to the clamp. The bottom of this clamp is identical to the Kreg's version. They both use 5/16-18 bolts. This means you can use the Milescraft clamp with the Kreg base, or you can use the Kreg's clamp with the Milescraft base. The Kreg base is called the KBCBA Bench Clamp Base, and the Milescraft base is called the Milescraft 4016 Benchlock. Both of these bases can be found on Bolo. Alternatively, they slide on universal t-tracks as well. The one advantage that Kreg has is that their clamp has "automaxx" technology, which means no adjustment necessary when you're changing boards with different thicknesses. With the Milescraft, it's a little more old school. If you change board thickness, you'll need to adjust the tension. But it's really easy, as you can see in their stock photo, there is a crank in the back of the handle. Through the years, I don't recall many times where I worked with different thickness boards on the same day. Usually when you're joining boards, most of the time, we're joining boards of the same thickness. Nevertheless, that is something to think about, if you really want "automaxx" then you'll have to pay a premium. I should mention releasing the hold feels easier on the Milescraft. To release, you'll need to pull up the top handle on the Kreg version, it will take some effort especially if you've tensioned it for a very strong hold. With the Milescraft, the release is as simple as squeezing it's built-in clip located in the upper handle. When I set both clamps to similar tension, the release takes less effort with the Milescraft. Here's the current cost breakdown for the two sizes combined with the bases sold separately. And remember, you can mix and match. You can buy a Kreg clamp and use it with the Miles craft base, and vice versa:6 inch:--------Kreg: $40 + $23 = $63Milescraft: $27 + $10 = $373 inch:-------Kreg $43 bundledKreg $38 + $23 = $61... so why not buy the bundle?Milescraft $23 + $10 = $33I'll review those bases mentioned above in different reviews. For the price and quality, Milescraft sells a great clamp. As you can see by the price breakdown, you really need to think long and hard if you truly need automaxx.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works as expected.
A bit bulky but I am getting used to it. Crank on end is really a nice feature. I usually use it with my woodworking drill press table I put T-tracks in, but will add the hardware for when I take the table off and use it for metal work.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good value
Half the price of similar offerings of branded products. Easy to adjust and use. Have used Milescraft before and have been satisfied with their quality
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for drill press!
I am so mad that I did not buy this years ago. The long reach and sturdy grip is perfect for the drill press. Well made and very easy to adjust. Unlike some of the other brands this item takes a standard bolt so you can replace the bolt that comes with this item for a longer bolt if needed for your application.
5.0 out of 5 stars So far, just what we needed!
We cut aluminum all day on our miter saws and if the pieces aren't clamped down, they pose the risk of flying across the shop floor and seriously hurting employees. Some of our employees get lackadaisical or lazy and try to get away with NOT clamping the material down, usually due to laziness, and mostly get away with it. SO, I wanted to come up with a system to make it easy to clamp down the material. We cut a "keyhole" in a piece of 3x3 steel square tube and bolted that down beside the saw, and put the clamp on it. It is much easier (SIMPLE) and so far the employees have accepted the new procedure. Fingers crossed! The clamp is super sturdy and easy to use. We first purchased the name-brand blue handle model, but the adjustment process is fairly cumbersome. The adjustment with these clamps is easy-peasy!
5.0 out of 5 stars Looks good
Item as described, rec'd promptly, well packed, in new condition. Have not used it yet but expect it to work well.
5.0 out of 5 stars Well built, sturdy
Its well built, sturdy and value for money. It has a nice crank you close the clamp slightly and turn the crank a bit thightens well and reverse for soft opening. One can use the lever like normal vise grip too. In my experience it is better than auto type with more than twice the price! The bolt underneath is 5/16-18.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good value, works well
I use this for clamping items on my workbench. It fits in the t-track in my workbench. It adjusts easily. I have owned three similar products by another manufacturer that had an "automatic" feature, and they all broke. I haven't used this one many times, but it has a standard locking plier mechanism and adjusts easily. Oh, and Milescraft has great customer service, as I learned with another of their products.
