My research and personal tests indicate this is an authentic, quality saffron. Zaran is listed as a top producer of authentic saffron. That's why I bought it. I was able to smell it immediately after opening the package. Research said to stay away from any product sold in glass bottles because sunlight isn't good for saffron. When I put it in hot liquid, it released color without the threads losing color.Twice, I made chicken paella. Both times, I used Bomba rice. The first time, I used 16 threads and put it in boiled chicken broth. The second time, I used a good size pinch that was probably 25 threads in boiling chicken broth.16 threads produced a nice color and very light flavor. It was inhaled like lines of coke.The pinch provided a deeper color and stronger flavor. Only 2 of the 6 people enjoyed it. I knew the larger amount would affect it more dramatically, because I talked to others before using it.

I thought I would share a few pictures after running a little experiment. in case it helps others. One of the qualities of real saffron is that a little bit of it goes long ways. I just made three cups of rice in a rice steamer, and used really little as shown in the picture. Not only this colored the rice, but the flavor was clearly distinguishable right off the cooker.This is the second time I use it. I normally make Paella Valenciana on the grill outdoors. It works really well. I've been buying good Spanish Saffron at my local grocery store. But I got this one at the worst time of covid-19 when getting to that store was a little bit of a hassle. The price of this one (free shipped) is 32% lower than the one I buy at the grocery store. Of course you don't expect dirt cheap saffron. It's like buying cheap gold, it just doesn't exist, or it isn't authentic gold.

I bought this four years ago and finally finished it today while cooking some Persian saffron chicken. I kept it in the fridge so it would stay fresh and it's just as good now as it was back then. The flavor is strong and it makes the most aromatic food! I'll be buying again!

This is the 3rd time I have ordered the product. I have done it because every time I have used the threads the dish has been outstanding. To be honest I probably could not taste the difference if you put two different products if front of me but I have never made the same dish with 2 different saffron products at the same time to do a taste test. The packaging is great too I like the tin, better than the typical glass containers on other condiments/herbs. The price point is good too. I didn't give it 5 stars only because there is a vendor at a market in Lancaster PA that was very reasonable, I am just not going to drive 4 hours for saffron. You can not beat the price of Zaran Saffron compared supermarket products.

We are self-proclaimed saffron lover family with lot of saffron in lots of dishes in house! In India we used to buy Baby brand Deluxe Mogara and were quite happy with that. Once we moved here we tried couple of brands here like Mehr, Kirkland Signature etc. Recently bought this Zaran Saffron and were quite blown from the freshness and smell. If you smell it, it has that sweet smell to engulf your throat and leave you refreshed! All the strands are quite fresh and dried. Used them in pudding, everyday milk and are very happy with it. Recent experiment is to add it with sweet mango, milk and pinch of sugar to make saffron mango shake! Simply superb!Price wise its half of Kirkland Signature and quality is same or even better ! Would definitely buy it again and in larger quantity to save even more. Please continue to maintain the quality! Thanks.

I have mixed feelings about this product. The product looks very good quality but somehow there is not much of smell when i open the tin.

This saffron is great quality- color and taste, and a nice price point. I’m glad they went to the tin instead of the glass bottle they used to use. I was always afraid of dropping them!I now plan on re-using the tins this year for seed collecting when I go out and about places and see seed pods on plants I like. Perfect size for that and stowing away in my purse!
