TracFone went above and beyond to make sure my number got transferred the moment the lockout expired so that I could cancel my Mint Mobile service just a few hours inside the 7 day "full refund" trial period. Additionally, since switching to TracFone a month ago, I haven't had a single call drop, or a single time where the person I was talking to couldn't hear me! This had been a regular occurrence with Republic Wireless after I moved to an apartment in a newly developed area a little outside of town. When I tried switching to Mint Mobile, the service was even worse...to the point where I was never sure I'd be able to complete any phonecall, or if my texts would go through. But everything is working great since I switched to TracFone! My call quality is wonderful (no more robotic audio) and even my texts with screenshots go through immediately. I am so happy I switched to TracFone! Since I work from home now and am always in Wi-Fi, I only need 1gb of data a month, so I'm able to get unlimited talk and text plus 1gb of data for only $22 a month incl taxes. Since the service is working well for me, I plan to get the year prepaid plan which will only be $199...so even with taxes, I'll be under $20 a month. I'm so happy I switched to TracFone...and this little sim kit only cost $1, and saved me having to buy a new phone!

I wanted to change phones and ran into an issue with an outdated SIM card that according to Tracfone needed updating before I could make the switch.I decided to shop for a newer phone but noticed these Tracfone SIM cards on Bolo for less than a buck apiece with a gift card bonus if activated within about a month of purchase. Since my husband's phone had over 3K minutes and I wanted to transfer both the minutes and his number to a newer (to him) phone, I wasn't sure it would work but decided to give it a try and if it didn't work I wouldn't be out a bunch of money.I was able to go to the Tracfone website, click "Activate" and transfer the existing number to the new SIM card with ease.Once that online process was complete I waited about 1 hour and the old phone was no longer working - saying it had a deactivated SIM - which is what the online process indicated it would do and then I could use the new SIM.I put the new SIM (3-1 Prepaid) into a ZTE phone that while branded Tracfone had been used for Simple Mobile (T-Mobile network). The new SIM for Tracfone was immediately recognized when I restarted the phone and all the minutes and the number transferred to the new-to-my-husband phone! I was so happy this worked and it was easy to do.NOTE: I'm sure I could remove the SIM from the ZTE phone and put it in an iPhone and have it work as well - if it was a GSM unlocked version. This process was very easy and there were no hiccups. I was able to talk, text and surf the web without issue. I was also able to send photos via messages without having to update the APN, although I received a text on how to update the APN if needed.I did NOT have to purchase a $15 service to activate this SIM. Maybe that's how it goes if you have an existing Tracfone that is active in the system and you transfer the number? Whatever it is, this worked perfectly for me and the toughest part was getting to a live person (versus the automated loop) with Tracfone customer service to tell me I needed a new SIM to make the change.-------------------------------------------------

5.0 out of 5 stars This solved my Tracfone problem

    G.M. · April 29, 2022

This solved my Tracfone problem. My account got messed up when I move my sim card to a new phone. I could make calls with existing service/credits, but any new purchases (data) would not show up on the phone. I called Tracfone several times, and they could not fix it. They kept trying the same fix that never worked. Extremely frustrating. I decided I needed to start fresh, so I bought a new sim, and had them reactivate everything with that. Worked like a charm. All the previously purchased data showed up, even stuff I had given up on.The kit includes SIMs for AT&T, Verizon, and T-mobile. It DOES NOT include a pin tool for ejecting the Sim carrier from your phone.Note: I may have had this problem anyhow, but if your phone breaks, don't just physically move the sim to a new phone (like I did). Call them and have them move the account/sim to the new phone's IMEI number first. Even though I ultimately did this, I think it was too late, and the problem was already created.

You will need to buy a phone/data plan separately. For those in Canada who might wish to use a prepaid phone/data service while in the USA, Tracfone has been an easy and reliable solution for me. Normally once in the US, you'd head to a big box or electronics store and buy one of these SIM starter packages for one dollar, then buy the phone/data plan you need separately. But this is a good option through Bolo Canada, at somewhat of a premium, that will save you time finding a store with these in stock. So from Canada, buy this SIM kit and also buy an online Tracfone smartphone plan PIN from a site like callingmart. Tracfone also sells their plans online, but the last time I checked (some years ago) they didn't take credit cards with non-US billing addresses. You can activate the SIM and the necessary separate phone plan while at home in Canada. Just keep in mind that whatever plan you have chosen, the start date/time will be when you activate it online. To do so, go to the Tracfone website and follow the activations steps. You don't need to put the SIM in the phone. Just pick a zip code for a number local to where you'll spend most of your time (though you get nationwide calling anyway). Once you're in the US, put the SIM in your phone and restart it. It should set up with the proper APN settings for data and you'll get some welcome texts with info in case you need help. A feature I like about Tracfone is you can add data separately, at the rate of $10 for 1GB, at any time if you run out while your plan is still active. I've always used my own GSM smartphone with the AT&T compatible Tracfone SIM without problems. I'm not sure how well the T-Mobile GSM option works (you get three physical SIM cards in the kit from which to choose the one you want to use). It may depend on the coverage you need, so check each carrier's coverage maps for the areas you'll be visiting. You can also wait to activate the SIM once in the US, but you'll need to be able to get online to do so.

We used these on a trip to Florida. We purchased the plan before we left, swapped out the SIM card during the flight, and when we landed we had mobile data access on our phones. Worked perfectly. During our trip we occasionally had some dead zones or slow mobile data access, but that would likely be an issue with AT&T, not the SIM card.

When I checked before purchase my phone was compatible with the sim cards. The rep that I talked to was rude and less than helpful. Even though online it says my phone is compatible with AGT she told me it wasn't compatible with T-Mobile or Verizon and said I was out of luck. The waste of money and time.
