5.0 out of 5 stars Working on my third box this season
We ordered the 12 inch cherry wood and use it for our outdoor fireplace. It lights quickly, and it's especially considerate that they included some small kindling for the starter. The aroma around the fire is so enjoyable and we even used it to make s'mores with our grandchildren. They said this wood made them taste better than the fires they had used before. That's enough of a recommendation for me.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff
Unfortunately, I don't have a good local source of wood for my offset firebox BBQ, so I can't really comment on value. But this wood is seasoned nicely and burns clean. My only knock is that some of the pieces are larger than I'd like and I have to split them down.
5.0 out of 5 stars The addition of kindling is great
The wood is clean and dry. The addition of kindling along with the fire starters is great. I didn’t get these last year. I bought the 16-inch logs though. I had no problems at all getting these to light and I know they won’t compromise my wood burning stove. Oak burns hot and long. Perfect.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
Screw the price, it’s good stuff. Only problem I have is I need to split it because the door on my smoker is smaller. I use white oak, cherry and hickory and it all burns nice and gives me the flavor profile I’m looking for.
5.0 out of 5 stars Red oak is excellent for beef or pork
I've ordered 2 boxes now and I can't be happier with the quality and flavor produced. I use these logs on a Santa Maria style grill and the quality of bbq produces is phenomenal. My favorite things to cook with red oak are Korean short ribs and California style tri tip but I've used this wood for other things too. Will be trying it with chicken today.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great BBQ Wood
I use oak in my Santa Maria Grill for tri-tips or Pichana. It burns a long time and has just the right amount of smoke. I put natural chunk charcoal down as a base and a couple small sticks of oak on top. Good stuff!
3.0 out of 5 stars Pizza Wood + Ooni
This is a review of the "tiny pizza wood," which I purchased for use in my Ooni Karu. The price point is pretty decent for pre-cut wood, and you get a nice large box cut down into 6" strips, just as promised. I'm not an expert on wood, so I can't say whether or not I actually received the white oak I ordered, but the wood seems quite hard and burns similarly to other oak -- I think it's the real deal.I'm subtracting a couple of stars because I feel that although the lengths of the sticks are perfect, and the widths are okay -- in the 1" to 2" range -- the thickness is not enough, at just 1/4" to 1/2" for most of the sticks. This means that they burn on the hot and fast side, making it very tough to control the heat level inside of the oven, especially given that the Ooni's fuel chamber is quite small. Once it gets going, a fill up lasts maybe five minutes, and the flames can get a touch too intense. I'm not the fastest when it comes to opening dough balls or topping a pizza, so if I run outside, fill up the Ooni with these sticks, and get to stretching, by the time I'm ready to launch the flames are gone. Or if I fill it up right before putting the cheese on or whatever and not quite enough time has elapsed, I wind up with too much heat and a singed crust. Timing can be tricky. It would be great to see another version of this product in a similar length, but cut significantly thicker. (Think Jenga pieces.) Another option would be more of a "chunk" style -- both shorter and thicker, more of a cube shape.Bottom line, I feel that the value is okay for this product and I got what I paid for, but I'm not really happy for my particular use case. YMMV on this one.
