Royal Purple (36250-6PK HPS 20W-50 Synthetic Motor Oil with Synerlec Additive Technology - 1 Quart, (Case of 6)

Description:

  • Superior corrosion protection
  • Improved sealing between the piston ring and cylinder wall maximizes horsepower and torque and optimizes fuel economy
  • Exceptionally high film strength for dramatic reductions in engine wear and reduced engine heat to extend the life of your engine
  • Fit type: Vehicle Specific
  • Royal Purple HPS 20W-50 High Performance Street Synthetic Motor Oil with Synerlec - is not made from crude oil like traditional motor oils. It's used to lubricate, clean, and cool engines with the utmost efficiency. Types of motor oil include conventional, synthetic, diesel, bio-based, hybrid (blends of conventional and synthetic), and recycled oils. This oil has a weight of SAE 20W-50, meaning it has an SAE viscosity rating of 20 in cold temperatures and a rating of 50 at normal operating temperature. Always check your vehicle's owner's manual to verify that this is the correct weight of motor oil for your vehicle. This oil is a full synthetic oil, meaning crude oil is not used in making it. Synthetic oil can be used in vehicle engines instead of motor oils refined from crude oil, and often provides superior mechanical performance over traditional motor oil, including increased gas mileage and reduced engine wear at extreme temperatures. Its complex method of production means it can often cost more than conventional motor oil. Royal Purple HPS Series motor oil is specifically formulated to maximize performance and meet the demands of high performance and modified engines. It is fortified with a high level of zinc/phosphorus anti-wear additive and Royal Purple's proprietary Synerlec additive technology. This unique blend enables HPS to outperform leading synthetics and conventional lubricants. The available viscosities include 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 20W-50. HPS is recommended for vehicles no longer under manufacturer warranty and for those seeking a higher level of performance and protection. Royal Purple's HPS Series of motor oil responds to increased pressure with increased viscosity. It's advanced additive technologies, such as Synerlec improves the condition of metal-to-metal contact under severe conditions for greater protection.

Runs noticeably quieter and very smooth compared to your average conventional oil. I would say this is great stuff for older engines with flat-tappets. I messaged Royal Purple and asked what they recommended for an older car and this is the stuff. Lots of Zinc and Phosphorous/ZDDP substitute for the older technology. It also has an extremely high viscosity index, out of any oil I've seen, so you know it will perform great in those temp extremes as well, hot and cold. At about 11 bucks a quart if you buy in bulk, it's also hard to beat the price when comparing to Amsoil or Redline, although those would be great choices as well.Comparing other options, Amsoil is a bit thinner than this and offers a little bit better cold weather performance and longevity, but is pretty expensive. Redline is nice because you know what they put in it, no secrets with them--very high quality group 5 ingredients. It's also the most robust, and probably offers the greatest protection in extreme operation. Don't necessarily know what they put in the HPS, though I imagine it's a high quality group 4/5 ester/PAO base, either that or its got a pretty beastly additive package to perform the way it does. Mobil is another obvious option and is probably the best all-rounder for your newer cars, though some of these "boutique" oils I've mentioned offer more specific things if you need them.Overall, I think this one wins the comparison for price and if you don't change the oil every 20,000 miles. Personally, I wouldn't wait that long on any vehicle. Maybe 10,000 at the most in an engine that is perfectly sound.

If you are familiar with automobiles and engines you will know that the rotary engine can be a weird animal. The oil system is extremely important due to the fact that it is getting injected into the "cylinders" or rotors when the engine is running regularly. I was very hesitant about putting an all synthetic oil into my engine because of mixed ideas about oil with the Renesis engine. Not to mention the owner's manual says its a bad idea but every specialized oil for rotaries from Japan is synthetic. I have over 144K on my engine and want to extend the life of the engine before I have to rebuild the apex and side housing seals. I had some worries about synthetic oils because of deposits which can kill a rotary engine. I wanted to make sure whatever I was putting in would burn off clean and keep my apex seals, the life of the engine, in tact.I have used one full 12 quart box of this oil and what I have to say about the product when it comes to rotaries is that it seems to do very well. I haven't had to use as much oil as when I was using Pennzoil standard oil. Usually when using my old brand I had to be psycho about monitoring the oil level. This stuff seems to go a bit further and the burn off doesn't have much smell at all. When you hit 9RPMS with the Renesis engine you can typically smell an oil burn off which is still present with this but not as severe. The engine sounds like its running quieter but that could just be my imagination.I have to give props to the Royal Purple team that included information on their website about Rotary engines and their relation to Royal Purple they are what sold me on it.I will continue using this product even if it is more expensive. I love my car and keeping its heart(engine) alive is a very big deal to me. If you're wondering, the product really is purple.

I'm a 64 y/o driving a 1992 VW Golf 1.8 litre 8v. Not a scratch on the tornado red paint. Bought it in 1996 with 38,000 miles on it. She has 206k now and it my favorite car to drive, mainly because it turns heads all the time. Then, when they see this old man driving, I get the thumbs up!I started using RP 20/50 with the zinc at 120k. Within a few short days, the few drops of oil on the floor disapeared. This little engine is turning 4000 rpm at 80 mph. She burns a quart every 1500 or so but runs so smooth doing it and doesn't leak a drop on my tiled garage floor. I am confident that if I hadn't t started using it, I would've had some kind of engine repair by now. I change the oil and filter ( also RP) way more than I should....and I don't mind. Keep in mind its only a 1.8, I'm not gonna outrace anyone! But on the hiway, I keep up with anyone I want....under 3 digits. 5000 rpm's seems a bit much for extended driving, I'm old(er) not crazy, yet. I use RP in my F-150, my wifes Sonata and my 79 MG Midget. In my book, this is the best oil you can buy, period and It's probably the cheapest thing you can do to keep you car out of the shop.

I bought this oil for my 2000 Dodge Durango 4.7L V8 SLT 4x4 which has around 150k miles on it. I feel I got a very good price on this oil and it's very long lasting. You can go many more miles on this synthetic oil VS. regular oil. This oil is also supposed to add a little horsepower, torque and fuel mileage to the engine VS. regular oil because it provides lesser friction inside the engine. I only put around 5k miles on my Durango a year and this oil lasts the entire 5k miles, no problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!

This stuff is amazing! I didn't know a different brand of oil would make such a noticeable difference. I have an 07 and 2012 GM truck with an LV8 and an LC9 engine respectively. They both have a quarter million miles on them. This oil made a noticeable difference in the sound the engines make and delivery of power. Quieter and smoother running. I'm sold. Not using anything else anymore.

My 300km CRV started to get a single drop every time I take it out of my garage. Always just one drop, even if the car hasn’t been used for days. This started the day after I changed the oil. Maybe a fluke thing that happened to just me, but I thought I should mention it. I would recommend using their HMX oil for high-mileage vehicles... I would like to switch to it myself, but NOBODY seems to carry it in 5W20. Best of luck.
