5.0 out of 5 stars To boldly go!
It's an excellent upgrade from the DVD movies that I had previously purchased years ago. I usually rip DVD and Blu-Ray discs and convert the MKV files it makes and convert them to MP4 format and save them to an external usb hard drive for viewing on my television set. Much better viewing quality!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection!
Some very solid blu rays in this box set, everyone one of the films looked great in HD and some good DolbyTrue HD sound. There are TONS of features as well, it will take days to get through them. The only thing negative is the lack of the other versions of Trek 1, 2, and 6 but other than that I recommend this set.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice set - (Red & Black box DVD set - 2013)
Note: There are 2 different box sets advertised here. This is for the Red & Black box set(2013).I had been looking to replace my 26 year old set of VHS tapes of the 6 TOS movies. I searched for a digital set, as I like to have them available to download and take with me. I couldn't find a digital collection with all 6 movies (really???). There were partial collections and individual movies, which got kind of pricey. So I ordered the 2013 set here (Red & Black DVD box), as the Blue & White(2019) set never seems to be available, and I suspect from some reviews may even be bootlegged. This set includes TNG movies, which I love too, and a couple of extras disks. It's a very nice set at a great price and I am pleased with it. I have only had it 5 days and haven't watched all of the discs yet, but I haven't had any playability issues so far. The picture quality is wonderful. Much better than the VHS, so they aren't merely DVD copies, they have been cleaned up. Sound and subtitles are good and there are also extras on each disk. Now for the kicker...the set of 1-10 movies showed up for sale on both VUDU and FandangoNOW just this morning. I am considering buying the digital versions as well, but I will still keep this set. It's just that nice.5/12/19 - Update on the digital versions offered by VUDU and FandangoNOW:When I wrote this review (4/7/19), the digital version of this set had just been released and was $29.95. A week later, the price went up to $34.95. A week after that, the price skyrocketed to $69.95 on one service and $74.95 on the other. Needless to say, I will be happy with the quite reasonably priced DVD set I bought here. I have watched them all and there have been no issues. I would definitely recommend the DVD set I have referenced in this review. The 3rd party digital providers can keep their overpriced offering.
5.0 out of 5 stars BEAM IT UP!
The Star Trek movie myth has it that only the even numbered Trek films are successful. This isn't a bad rule of thumb when dissecting the rank of these movies. The first "motion picture" is a chiefly a milestone because it is the big screen translation of a classic piece of TV and Science-fiction history (I think about the life imitating art contributions every time I flip open my cel). As a movie alone, it is awkward. Star Trek II> The Wrath of Khan, best sets the bar for what all Star Trek features aspire to be. It has it all, including Ricardo. Star Trek III, is the best of the odd #s, but it works so seamlessly with II. and IV. that it's hard to complain, the Klingons return, Spock returns, what could be better. Star Trek IV., a lighter even number, features the crew's return to save the Earth, time-traveling to the present/80's, it's kinda Star Trek's take on SAVING THE WHALES. Star Trek V. is mostly forgettable, except for a few beautiful and moving moments of brilliance, like: "the death of Bone's father, meeting God and Campfire songs w/ Kirk & Spock. Star Trek VI., subtitled "The Uncovered Apology" (just kidding) is a fine wrap-up for the original crew dispite it plot holes. Star Trek Generations, is a poor introduction to the next generation of the Enterprise, it has Kirk's "Death(s)" in it, I wish they had stopped after one. The Next Gen. Character's are very cardboard in this-one, watered down for anyone new to the TV spin-off. Star Trek:First Contact may be the best of all Ten movies, it reintroduces the Borg menace with a intense roller-coaster ride. The odd-numbered follow-up, Star Trek Insurrection, earns it's number, while the even-numbered Star Trek: Nemesis ( or X.) is a decent action-flick with a clone captain that would have be more interesting as evil twin.UNLESS YOU WANT DIRECTOR'S EDITIONS OF ALL 10 MOVIES, THIS SET IS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL CREW SET, THE NEXT GEN. SET OR BUYING ONE AT A TIME. I was plenty satisfied with the quality. This is a must own set for sci-fi / Star Trek fans. This set includes the 10 Star Trek feature films in two-disc letterbox special editions. The first two movies are the newly restored director's editions with commentary director Robert Wise, special photographic effects director Douglas Trumbull, special photographic effects supervisor John Dykstra, music composer Jerry Goldsmith, and actor Stephen Collins and both with extra footage contained within the feature itself (not just tucked away on a special features disc)!. Wrath of Khan includes Commentary by director Nicholas Meyer on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan with an Extended 116-minute director's edition of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Star Trek 3, the feature contains Commentary by director Leonard Nimoy, writer-producer Harve Bennett, director of photography Charles Correll, and actor Robin Curtis. Star Trek IV. commentary by Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. Star Trek V. contains Commentary by director/actor William Shatner and his daughter, Liz Shatner. Star Trek VI, contains commentary by director Nicholas Meyer and screenwriter Denny Martin Flinn.Commentary provided by Brannon Braga and Ron Moore on Star Trek Generations.Commentary by director-actor Jonathan Frakes on Star Trek First Contact. Commentary by screenwriters Brannon Braga and Ronald D. Moore on Star Trek First Contact. Commentary by producer Rick Berman on Star Trek Nemesis. Commentary by director Stuart Baird on Star Trek Nemesis with text commentary by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda (co-authors of The Star Trek Encyclopedia)The rest of the movies are double-disc editions loaded with extras: new and vintage interviews, documentaries, featurettes Deleted scenes and Storyboard archives.BEAM IT UP.
5.0 out of 5 stars Solo para amantes de la serie original de TV.
Magnífico producto y gran vendedor.
4.0 out of 5 stars Must have collection for Trekkies.
Price was right for a used set of DVDs. One of the discs had a deep circular scratch on it. Probably something stuck in the DVD player when the previous owner was playing it and scratched it. I haven't played that disc yet but hoping the movie is still viewable. I've seen all 10 movies years ago but it's a must have for any Trekkie.
Worthy BluRay Adaptation
Equipment I use:Full-HD 50" Plasma newest gerneration, with a Playstation 3 working 1080p/24 setting with enhanced color.Audio: 7.1 high quality home cinema system.Star Trek 1-6:Picture: The restauration quality is amazing, specially seen with the actors. The details in hair or makeup are shown so clear, thatyou think watching them trough an open window. The special effects were not altered. But the picture quality was most of the times enhanced in an amazing way.Cristal clear colors and details you never seen before.I say most of the time, because the quality (specially in Star Trek 1) is not constant. Some minor scenes only had received a basic "cleaning" and lookspretty soft. But this is complaining at a high level. The basic material (seen on the Standard DVD) was so poor, that I could only admire the great job they have done.Sound: This is really top of the line. 7.1 HD. The whole movies gain atmosphere. You really in it. Even newest movies cannot get ahead of it.Specially with the older movies this gives you really a new experience.Star Trek 7-10:Picture:The basic material was in a good shape. So I assume, that is was not so hard to push it to BluRay. And they did a fine job.Every detail is brilliant. You could for example see the minor scratches on Picards captain-signs when he put them down in Star Trek 9.He could use also a new shave at this time...Sound: 5.1 HD. The sound quality is enhanced compared to the Standard DVD (which was not really poor at all). You hear dialogs like you stand beside the actors. Slitest sounds are heart from the enviroment. But there is the other site of the coin:You can also see very clear were objects are digitally inserted in real enviroments of the movies. They did not bother clearing that up.Finally on the Special disc you see a quite interesting interview with the main actors chatting about the live on the set.I'm very happy with this set. It is worth replacing the standard DVD's.
