(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } In my opinion, the best album they've ever made (and that's saying something). If you are looking for a carbon-copy of Costello Music, then this will not be your favorite album. The album continues the progression that The Fratellis have been steadily making with every new album, and this is by far my favorite of all of them (including Jon Fratelli's solo foray, Psycho Jukebox). This album is so solid that it's hard to decide what to like most about it. It has a variety of different styles it uses, and just feels more mature and finished than their earlier work. If this album is any indication, the Fratellis simply get better with age, and I am quite eagerly anticipating their next release (which cannot come too soon). Also, if you have the option, I highly recommend the version that has acoustic versions of several of the songs. The acoustic versions are just as good as the regular, in their own unique way. Can not recommend enough. 7/5 stars.
5.0 out of 5 stars I really fell in love with this record
If you're familiar with the Fratellis, then you'll know there'e s certain level of quality they they will never dip below. Eyes Wide Tongue Tied wasn't as immediately as accessible as We Need Medicine or Here We Stand (my personal fave), but it grew on me tremendously after a few listens. And after seeing their recent (Sept 2015) NYC Webster Hall show, I really fell in love with this record, ahem, CD. When they did Imposter (Little By Little) 3rd or 4th song in, at the show, it hit me like a ton of bricks. Needless to say, the anthemic songs from Costello Music has them tearing the roof of the joint as well. Too bad the FOH sound was super muddy and Jon's guitar wasn't cutting thru that well. They're one of the best bands I've ever seen live and I've seen The Clash in their heyday (with Topper), among many others. But I digress. Jon F is one terrific lyricist and he just gets better and more clever with each release. Buy this you cheap bastards. Now.
5.0 out of 5 stars A very special album!
I had very high expectations for this album and I have to say it did not disappoint! Most people seem to like this band's first album better than the others, but I think this new album contains their best song to date. It is the country sounding "Too Much Wine." I have a feeling that some country artist is going to discover this song and have a mega hit with it! This band is quite versatile and each new album by them is much different than their previous releases. They are the only band I know of that can do that and still keep the quality in their music!
4.0 out of 5 stars get the deluxe version
I like this album better overall than their previous one, which was just OK to me although a few songs did stand out. The first two albums are still their best.On EYES WIDE, TONGUE TIED you'll find the same types of characters and narrators that populate the rest of the Fratellis' catalog - the insecure, the self destructive, the hopeless degenerates, the lovers in relationships that are doomed to fail; everyone's maybe just a little bit older and with more regrets. After a few days of listening, I think the strongest songs on this album are:"Thief" - interesting, fast with a good hook, it's my favorite right now;"Baby Don't You Lie To Me" - feels like the most "classic Fratellis" sound;"Imposters" - has a sort of fast paced lullaby feel; the rhythm rocks you along;"Slow" - kind of heartbreaking (I like the acoustic version from the deluxe album best);"Dogtown" is growing on me, it is slightly weird with a sort of circus flavor in parts.I could see some of the others growing on me with more listens.I'd say if you're a Fratellis fan, you'll obviously want this album if you don't have it already. If you haven't kept up with the band since COSTELLO MUSIC, this isn't a bad place to check in and see what they are up to currently. I'm looking forward to seeing the band on tour this fall and hearing some of these songs live.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love
Love the album, came in good condition
5.0 out of 5 stars It's really very beautifully written, with haunting melodies and forlorn lyrics
This album is a lot different from the others. It's not as bouncy as the past albums, much more bluesy. My first listen, I was a slightly underwhelmed. But the songs are infectious and now I can't stop listening to it! It's really very beautifully written, with haunting melodies and forlorn lyrics. The Fratellis have always been a favorite of mine, but this album has shown me they are much more than pop. I am glad I got it.
5.0 out of 5 stars The Fratellis just keep getting better and better
The Fratellis just keep getting better and better. Each album seems to impossibly be better than the last and this one is no exception. Their sound just seems to mature and get deeper with each album. This is on heavy rotation in my music library and has been since the day I got it.
5.0 out of 5 stars The new bar is set higher
This band will go down in history as one of the best most innovative groups of all time. I listened to the CD about 10 times before I had the opportunity to sit down and Listen to it. Absolute brilliance.
Musik, die man liebt. Hammeralbum!
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Die dritte Platte von den Fratellis.
Fantastic album
Great album, a markedly different sound for the band but a successful one nonetheless
Five Stars
Excellent CD. Fratellis always deliver!
GRAN CD
Com sempre... genials!Sense cap mena de dubte un dels millors grups pop rock que hi ha en aquest moment.
Another great album from the Fratellis
"Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied," is a brilliant album, up there with "Costello Music". I keep coming back to it; there's always something new to be heard, a new lyric that resonates and makes you go "I know what you mean."This album is in a different vibe to the high-octane energy of their earlier ones; they have turned the page, into confident introspection. Old-school Fratelli fans might be a little surprised by it but honestly, it gets just better and better every time I listen! It has a solid maturity about it, not just in the music but in the lyrics. Try "Desperate Guy" for emotionally moving and "Baby Don't You Lie to Me" for a big in your face reminder that the Fratellis still rock and always will. There is only one song which seems a little out of place on the album, "Moonshine" with its end-of-the-evening-slow-dance vibe. Its a bit different, paving the way for the bitter sweet tones of the album "In Your Own Sweet Time."The Fratellis are one of those bands who are not afraid to change; they flourish on it, something that few bands can do past that first hit album . They do so with punch and grace (two words you wouldn't expect to see together but true)! Happy listening.
