5.0 out of 5 stars Much better pouch

    D.R. · March 24, 2014

I love my Sawyer Squeeze system and these bags just made it better. The old bags did wear out just as the company advertises. The new blue bags seem to be made much better so they will survive use much longer. I watered an entire Boy Scout Troop through an Elkorn High Adventure Base trek in the Rockies last year with this system and the old grey bags. We had 2 other MSR pump filters on the hike but one of them failed in its first use and the other one we discovered was missing parts and never functioned at all! (We had all the parts at the shakedown but they got misplaced getting into the pack) So very simply, unlike the pump water filter systems, the Sawyer Squeeze works every time! It is also 1/4 the weight of the other pumps and the bags can be used to store water for the hike too. The filter will fit any standard water bottle top so when a bag does wear out, I can use other items instead of a bag. I carry 500ml water battles you can buy at any store because they weigh less than Nalgenes and canteens and fit my filter. The old bags were good but these new bags are much nicer. For the weight of one pump filter alone I can carry 4 Sawyer filters, back flush syringe, and 8 of the 64 oz bags capable of holding 16 liters of water! I don't carry cast iron dutch ovens or pump filters when I hike!

5.0 out of 5 stars These are excellent, rugged, and easy to use. As expected from a Sawyer product.

These pouches are just the right size to get a good bit of water for filtering. I recently switched from a much heavier Katadyn filter to a Sawyer Mini for backpacking due to the weight savings and affordability of these filters. After drinking several gallons of water filtered from these pouches over several days in the wilderness, I am completely satisfied with the function, taste, durability and especially the VALUE of the Sawyer pouches and filter. I'm fully SOLD on Sawyer products and will be trusting them for all my adventuring and emergency needs from now on. You can't beat the weight savings, functionality, and price of these filters and of course these bags.

5.0 out of 5 stars 64oz pouches, large capacity

    M. · June 5, 2018

64oz pouches made of a high strength and thick plastic. They are relatively light weight for their size and the seams appear to be very well constructed. Make sure you use the rolling method to push water through the filter. A lot of people that tend to have trouble with these bags are those that fill a bag and just squeeze the mess out of them with no rhyme or reason. An even rolling upward of the bag creates ample pressure to get the water through the filter while not killing your bag in the process. These are great to use when you have a 2 liter bladder and have the Sawyer set up to allow filtering inline. I have mine set up to allow me to fill my pack up while wearing the bladder. Connect the pouch to the filter, get the inline accessory kit (sold separately),remove the mouth piece from the drinking tube, attach this and bingo bango. You can easily fill a 2 liter bladder without taking your bag off and the bladder out. These are also very useful setting them up on a gravity feed system and having them as a go to spot for a couple of campers.

I have a mixed opinion of these bags. They are pretty good but have one big downside.PROS*Small & Light*Work well with my Sawyer mini filter*So far all I have used have been robust and not sprung any leaksCONS*Can't fill them easily. I could only manage to get about 16oz into the 32oz bag when filling from a lake. The pros speak for themselves. I'll elaborate on the problem. The bag collapses on itself as soon as it gets in the water. If you could put it under a waterfall, I expect you could get the full 32oz in it. I have to pull it through the lake 3 or 4 times to get enough water in it to be useful which I measured to be 16oz. So it takes two bags worth to fill a standard Nalgene bottle. It works, just takes more "fills" to fill your water bottle. I have an alternative filter system that uses a more traditional water bladder that gravity feeds through a filter. I think it is easier/less hassle to use and will probably be using that one more often than the Sawyer squeeze system.

The Sawyer system works great for filtering water on camping trips, especially if you want to go lightweight and not carry one of the heavier systems.I wish these bags would fill when submerged, but I've gotten around that by just bringing an extra water bottle designated as "dirty." My biggest complaint is that the bags only last about 10 trips before they wear out and start leaking. For this reason I always carry an extra new bag. Even with the extra bottle and extra bag, I'm still saving many ounces over a different system, but I think they could come up with a better bag design without adding a lot of weight.
