Since DEXTER'S very first season it has been my very favorite tv series. Season 4 was considered by many to be a milestone for the series. John Lithgow certainly left his imprint forever as The Trinity Killer. But though his acting was superb and the cat and mouse portrayed between him and Dexter was mezmerizing, the season is more important as the one that had one of the most shocking and series changing season endings in history. The death discovered in the last few minutes of the season finale rocked and shocked all DEXTER viewers. All knew that the series would never be the same with this character loss and how would it move forward.Season 5 handles all of that not only with great success but also by providing what may be the shows best season yet. At the time of its airing fans viewed with expectation and some were not favorable to the plot line or the addition of Julia Stiles for the season. Fact is those who truly loved the series were comparing the season to all those before and especially the beloved lost character. So before watching season 5 I viewed season 4 for true continuity. Watching Dexter who struggles with human emotion was amazing. And simply put, the plotline for this season worked perfectly as the horrific center as well as a way to move Dexter along in his development. Upon my second viewing of this season everything was raised a bar. Julia Stiles is superb here as Lumen, a rape, torture and potential murder victim who Dexter discovers. Her emotional development as a caged victim set free who then works with Dexter is perhaps the best work of Ms. Stiles career and she and Michael C. Hall have a chemistry that fits this story line perfectly. The addition of Jonny Lee Miller as self help guru Jordan Chase provides the seasons villanous character and he masters the role perfectly and is in every way as good as John Lithgow was.DEXTER is one of those shows that always looks best on blu ray. The video is always crisp and clear with superb clarity. Black/white ratio is excellent and colors pop. The scenery of Miami shines and facial close ups show great detail and flesh tones are perfect. Day and night scenes are both levels above the dvd. I own all the seasons on blu ray but found the audio the best here. The Dolby TruHD 5.1 track utilizes all the speakers perfectly and this season had many shock scenes and scary moments that utilized rear speakers to great effect. You'll be jumping out of your skin. If you love DEXTER this season is a must have and the blu ray would be the greatest gift to yourself. Season 4 and the Trinity Killer was indeed supreme but season 5 moves DEXTER forward with thrills and chills galore. A great season of a superb series.

Mittlerweile bin ich bei Staffel 7, Disk 4, angelangt und fühle Panik in mir aufsteigen beim Gedanken daran, dass die Serie bald zu Ende ist. Anfangs hatte ich große Angst davor, vielleicht Dinge anschauen zu müssen, die ich nicht ertragen kann, aber glücklicherweise erfolgt immer gerade dann ein Filmschnitt, wenn es für mich unterträglich würde. Die Einsichten in die menschliche Psyche sind sehr interessant. Und vor allem finde ich es sehr beruhigend, dass sich Dexter nur sehr schlimme Menschen vorknöpft. Ich als liebes kleines Menschlein brauche also keine Angst zu haben, im Gegenteil, ich hoffe, dass sehr viele Menschen mit dem Drang zu Töten sich ein Beispiel an Dexter nehmen und sich an die richtig Bösen heranmachen, so dass diese für mich keine Gefahr mehr darstellen können. Hach, würde es nur Dexter und mich auf der Welt geben, würde ich mich sicherer fühlen als im Bauch meiner Mutter. Dexter ist mir der liebste Blut-Heini, der mir jemals untergekommen ist. Und Vince Masouka ist mir der liebste Perversling. Und Debra und Angel und LaGuerta usw. - ich liebe sie alle, ob oder gerade wegen ihrer Schwächen. Außer dem Blödian und Schönling Joseph Quinn, bei seinem Anblick stellen sich bei mir die Nackenhaare. Aber auch sein Erscheinen hat immer einen Sinn: es ist eine Wohltat für Augen und Geist, wenn er wieder weg ist.Die schlechten Rezensionen beziehen sich hauptsächlich auf die Blue-Ray-Versionen. Ich habe mit Blue-Rays ebenfalls schon schlechte Erfahrungen gemacht und kaufe mir seitdem von allen Filmen nur noch die stinknormale DVD-Version. So auch hier. Und ich bin damit sehr zufrieden.

Une saison époustouflante... J'en suis tout émoustillé ! ;-)))

Si si je vous assure...Après l'excellente et très prenante saison 4, je me suis demandé si la sauce continuerait de prendre, car les séries ont tendance à s'essouffler au fil des années, toujours les mêmes intrigues, les mêmes constructions d'épisodes (pas vrai House ? ;-), ça fini par lasser...Et ben nan, et là je dois dire que les bras m'en tombent...Les auteurs de Dexter sont vraiment brillants, car ils arrivent à nous sortir une saison 5 tout à fait originale et totalement addictive !Je m'aperçois que chaque saison est différente, en même temps qu'évolue notre personnage, en son for intérieur, évoluent les intrigues, les personnages satellites (richissimes !) et la construction des saisons, franchement c'est exceptionnel !Car oui, qu'est ce qu'il est intéressant de voir Dexter évoluer saison après saison, et cette saison 5 atteint un nouveau niveau dans la quête qu'il se donne de trouver toute trace d'humanité en lui ! C'est brillant ! (redondance méritée ;-)Au final, moi qui pensais avoir tout vu lors de la saison 4 avec son intrigue qui vous prend aux tripes et l'exceptionnel John "Trinity" Lithgow, et ben mes tripes ont encore une fois été prises en otage par Dexter et j'en viens presque à regretter qu'il n'y ait que 12 épisodes par saison... Enfin si c'est pour nous servir à chaque fois des saisons originales, prenantes et formidablement interprétées, alors je dis c'est pas grave !L'interprétation, parlons-en, comme d'habitude, elle est excellente, évidemment par notre Dexter en 1er lieu, mais les personnages satellites sont d'une grande richesse et formidablement servis par de très bons acteurs, que l'on a plaisir à retrouver à chaque fois !En conclusion, encore un coup de Maître de notre serial killer préféré... Une saison qui, une fois de plus, ne ménage ni son héros, ni les pauvres spectateurs que nous sommes, à nous ronger les sangs sur nos canapés !! ;-)Vivement la suite !!!

Dexter is an interesting show concept, about following a likeable serial killer, who kills bad guys for the right reasons. It also follows the police hunting the killer, and you watch as the police blood analyst, who is the killer, works with the police on his own crime scenes. A fun show to watch, and a great premise. Interesting and compelling. Adults only, no kids should watch. Definitely adult themes.

An excellent season, arguably the best yet - so many of the established cast evolving in sometimes surprising directions. Major tragedy has left Dexter reeling. How to adjust? He realizes only by continuing his quest to remove villains can his life again have meaning - he before long back on his cabin cruiser ("Slice of Life"!), dumping overboard more dismembered victims....12 50 minute episodes, all superbly crafted and abounding with sly humour, discovery so often seeming inevitable. Outstanding examples? Ep.6 with its black comedy and audacious climax. The final showdown, problems ever mounting - viewers perhaps dreading the season may end as it began - with an appalling loss.A splendid addition to the fine cast is Lumen, whose tortured past triggers major developments. Dexter's dead dad is still around to advise. Debra, expletives disconcerting, has become protective of her now more vulnerable brother. Dexter's other family relationships come over well - scenes with stepdaughter and stepson occasionally very moving. A particular delight is baby son Harrison, who hopefully has not inherited tendences.As ever there are the villains, overdue for despatching - it a guilty pleasure to see them at last get their comeuppance.The bonuses are all interesting (especially how the sounds are added), but the "20 Questions" feature proved fiddly to operate.On many levels this is a season to applaud, a worthy addition to a remarkable series. Greatest accolade has to be reserved for Michael C. Hall. Really Dexter Morgan should not invite sympathy, he a psychotic killer and all that, but Hall's sensitive portrayal ensures most of us are with him all the way. Great.
