I stumbled upon this movie on Netflix years ago and instantly loved it. Don't get me wrong, it's not the greatest movie ever made or even one of my absolute top 10 favorites of all time, but the characters and writing are a refreshing change of pace from most movies in the same genre. It definitely deserves a higher rating on sites like IMDB and RT, as well, let alone here on Bolo.It was the unique dialogue (from Sam) which pulled me into the film from the start the first time I saw it. Sam, the main character played with absolute perfect aplomb by a very talented young Michael Angarano, is a bulls***ter. He is a fast talker with designs on charming everyone around him to get his way in every situation, and the words, phrasing, and delivery which he spits out at times are unlike anything you'll hear from any other character you've seen. I could very well see this putting some people off, citing that the character as too odd to get a fix on, but I loved it.Throughout the entire film he comes off as a cocksure man on a mission to win the heart of the woman he thinks he loves, seemingly either buying his own bulls*** or simply not even paying attention to himself to that end in the process; you find yourself getting caught up in it, almost buying it yourself. Ultimately as the film progresses and winds down, you realize what an immature and inexperienced kid he still is, albeit in a man's body. So sure of everything and what he thinks he wants, but without a clue. He's the quintessential 23 year old in that way and Max Winkler, the writer/director, absolutely nailed it.Anyway I had to buy it on here as it's since been removed from Netflix and it's downright difficult to find elsewhere. Don't listen to the ridiculous reviews slamming and panning it. Simply because the film wasn't for them or they didn't fully or nearly get what Winkler was going for doesn't make it a bad film. Give it a chance.I hope to see more from Michael Angarano as well as Max Winkler in the future because of this.

Ridiculous story line, sorry I watched it. Uma's character wasn't developed and the other characters where annoying or pathetic.

The quirkiness of the protagonist is overwhelming and the brilliant Uma Thurman and Lee Pace are underwhelming in this film. One thing I appreciated was the confidence one of the supporting characters gained and the action he took upon realizing the disaster he was in. I also enjoyed the crazy spectacle of Pace's Whitt and his film "One year in a Tent" as he wondered who was the woman he was holding so lovingly wishing he "could stay [here] forever"

Very pleasantly surprised! From the low ratings, I was apprehensive, but I found this movie to be very sweet, quirky, and honest. I can see how it wouldn't appeal to some as the humor could be a little off-beat (in a good way), but the acting was great, the story was believable (some of the characters were almost too real - I know people like Sam), and the ending was perfect.Five stars, and I'm regretting only renting it and not buying it outright.

Well I have to say I was disappointed with this movie, good actors, tick. However it failed to engage me and if there had been something better on tv, I would have switched it over to that, enough said.

We can all relate to the rare glimpses we have into the lives of the narcissistic beautiful people who charm us into reflecting back their own desirability to them. This is the way The Great Gatsby should have ended. Also enjoyed that the main characters were short..... Shallow I know, but being short myself, it really resonated.

I loved Ceremony and was shocked it didn't get a wider release in theaters. Angarano is brilliant and Jake Johnson gives one of my favorite performances in a long time. If you're looking for a very unique, fresh new movie filled with young talent check this out.

Laut den relativ miesen Urteilen deutscher Filmkritiker bin ich mit ziemlich minderen Erwartungen an den Film herangegangen. Seine Handlung, die zu Beginn an einer etwas schlappen Einführung schwächelte, entwickelte sich im Verlauf aber dann doch zu einer sehr amüsanten und gekonnt durcharrangierten Komödie. Wer bei „The Right Bride“ allerdings eine amerikanische Mainstrem Brain-OFF-Komödie des Popcornfresser Genres erwartet, könnte für sich durchaus eine Enttäuschung erleben. Es geht eben nicht nur um jede menge Fun, Lacher etc., denn die Handlung ist intelligent, teils auch still, beinhaltet jede Menge Tiefgang und zeigt für empfängliche Filmgeniesser durchaus viele Subtilitäten. Der Zuschauer wird am Ende auch nicht mit einem grossen, pompösen Desaster belohnt, da sich die Geschichte bis zum Schluss hin an ihr realistisches Konzept hält.Die Charaktere sind alle abwechslungsreich und interessant gestaltet. Die Besetzung spricht natürlich allein für sich. Eines der grössten Highlights bleibt allerdings die witzige Inszenierung Jake Johnsons. Allerdings beweisen auch Hollywood Heiligtum Uma Thurman wie auch sämtliche anderen Hauptdarsteller ihr ganzes Können. Ein echt gelungener Cast! Was ich deswegen empfehlen möchte, ist sich diese Blu-ray in Englisch anzusehen, denn die Originalstimmen sollte man sich nicht einfach so entgehen lassen.Der Streifen hat für eine Komödie etwas ganz Eigenes, wenn nicht sogar Reifes an sich, was möglicherweise nicht für jeden zutreffend sein wird. Womöglich wird er im Kollektiven auch nicht gerade auf die jüngste Altersklasse zugeschnitten sein, auch wenn ich mich mit meinen zarten 19 Jahren doch sehr über die Thematiken vergnügen konnte. Gerade weil dieser Film eine ganz eigene Auffassung von Komik vertritt, weiss ich ihn sehr zu schätzen. Danke für den Film!

Ich habe diesen Film bestellt, da ich ein Lee Pace-Fan geworden bin und mir nach und nach seine Filme ansehe. Bin etwas gespaltener Meinung in diesem Fall. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall diesen Film anzusehen, wenn man die Hauptdarsteller mag. Lee Pace und Uma Thurman machen ihre Sache sehr gut. Sie sind klasse Schauspieler & Augenweiden! Überrascht haben mich, aber vor allem geplättet die Darstellungen von Michael Angarano (as Sam) und Reece Thompson (Marshall). Die Jungs haben es echt drauf. Kleine Nerds, die ihre Sache super gemacht haben. Sämtliche anderen Nebensteller fallen kaum auf oder machen Eindruck. Die Hauptdarsteller haben das beste aus der Geschichte gemacht, denke ich. Denen habe ich die Geschichte/Charaktere gerne abgekauft. Was nicht zu der Story gepasst hat, war leider das Wetter, die location?! Das Gesamtpacket wäre evtl. viel besser geworden, wäre im Sommer bei super Sonnenschein gedreht worden. Das herbstliche Wetter hat einfach nicht zu einer Strandhochzeit gepasst....
An Event Not To Be Missed
Debut film from Max Winkler, written and directed, is a fun, kind of sad story of love and friendship. This strange story of 'Big' Sam who falls in love with older Zoe. He decides to crash his wedding along with his estranged friend and arguments, emotional conversations and drunken nights ensue. All the characters have a quality about them that makes you want to keep watching, apart from Zoe, and they drive the story. It could be loosely compared to THe Great Gatsby as it set in East Egg and the characters all fall into place. Its a brilliant film and its a shame it was never released in the UK.

Eigentlich habe ich den Film nur wegen Lee Pace und Uma Thurman gekauft. Trotzdem ist er einfach unheimlich süß und ein fabelhaftes Regie-Debut von Max Winkler. Es geht um die bildhübsche, aber flatterhafte Zoe, die ihren langjährigen Freund Whit heiraten möchte. Dieser ist Tier-Doku-Filmer und naja... eine Mischung aus dramatisch-melacholischer Hingabe für fremde Länder und übertriebener Selbstreflexion mit seltsamem narzistischen Geschmäckle. Bei der Hochzeit platzt Sam rein, ein vollkommen von sich selbst überzeugter Kinderbuch-Autor, der im Grunde noch ein kleiner Junge ist, aber völlig in Zoe verknallt ist, Er versucht, sie von sich zu überzeugen und die heirat irgendwie abzuwenden. Seinen Freund Marschall zieht er mit rein, verrät ihm seinen Plan aber vorsichtshalber nicht.Lustig, gutherzig und unterhaltsam. Viele Extras, u.a. mit Whits Afrika-Doku "A year in a tent", die wirklich lustig ist! Könnte den Film durchaus empfehlen, wenn man nicht unbedingt auf Action oder politisch Bedeutsames aus ist.Info: Diese Version ist auf Englisch mit spanischen Untertiteln und kommt aus den USA. Kann also etwas dauern, bis das Paket kommt. Die deutsche Version heißt "The right bride - Meerjungfrauen ticken anders".
