5.0 out of 5 stars Great little rice cooker!!!

    M. · July 24, 2012

I'm loving this tiny little rice cooker! I used to have a microwave cooker and it was pretty inconsistant when it cooked the rice; most of the time it would be undercooked and it always made a huge mess in the microwave. So I decided to try out this cheap, highly rated rice cooker and I'm so glad that I did. I usually only cook for two people, so I make about .5-1 cup of rice (uncooked). There is plenty of room to cook another cup or two, making this cooker ideal for feeding 1-4 people. It's small, so it takes up very little space on my counter, and the small size also makes it easier to clean. It takes about 15 minutes to make the perfect rice. I took the advice of other reviewers and used a bit more water than the instructions called for. This is definitely the way to go. The recommended water is not quite enough, but it is easy to figure out the correct amount (only took me two times to get it right, and even when it wasn't right, the rice was still decent). I also took the advice from people saying to turn it off when it is done cooking. I have not tried leaving it on yet, so I'm not sure if that would ruin the rice or not. Now my favorite part.... the steamer!!!! I love steamed vegatables, and now I can steam them at the same time that my rice cooks!! I was skeptical at first.... but I tried some carrots and broccoli in there the first time I used it, and they were steamed to perfection! What a great idea! It's less work, less dishes to clean, and it steams it perfectly.I would recommend this for anyone who wants a cheap but fantastic little rice cooker. Great for singles or small families. Cooking the rice is very quick and easy with minimal work, and cleaning the cooker is quite easy as well (no burnt stuff on the sides that would require scrubbing or soaking). And let's face it.... the price is hard to beat!UPDATE: I've been using this cooker for about a year now. I have seen no decrease in performance since I bought it. I use it about twice a week, and it is one of my favorite kitchen appliances. To elaborate on the first review I left.... yes, leaving it on the "warm" setting after the rice has finished cooking will dry it out a bit. Just unplug it once it has finished cooking, or just eat it right away. If you insist on keeping it on the "warm" setting, add 2-3 more oz of water at the start. I have also tried many veggies in the steamer, and they all turn out great! Carrots, beans, broccoli, peppers, peas, corn, cauliflour, the list goes on. And all of them turn out so well. I will use this thing until it breaks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Rice Cooker and Steamer

    G. · June 23, 2025

This rice cooker works very well. I'm leaving a review because I dropped the lid from 8' in the air while trying to read the bottom of the rice cooker and it shattered. I found out the hard way that it is made from safety glass, which is less likely to give you serious cuts than traditional non-laminated glass. It's certainly not the manufacturer's fault that it broke. I should be able to use it just fine with another pot lid that I have.

This replaces an Oster that I used for years. (Sadly, it belonged to my daughter, who reclaimed it.) This is very similar to the Oster, but seems a little less durable. Yes it spits, but so did the Oster on occasion. I'm not a rice-connoisseur, so I'm not as fussy as some people. Yes, the rice can stick to the bottom of the pot, but it's edible and the pan cleans up easily. I frequently use the steamer to cook my veggies while the rice is cooking, and that works out well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice size for smaller quantities.

    S. · July 14, 2025

Why did you pick this product vs others?:Works well when using smaller amounts of rice.   If cooking a larger amount, place the unit on a plate others cookie sheet to keep the overflow contained.

It cooks rice perfectly every time, and the included steamer basket handles everything from silky eggs to fresh seafood and dumplings with ease. I’ve even used it to boil instant noodles and heat soup—all with zero fuss. easy to clean and compact enough for tiny kitchens.

5.0 out of 5 stars The little rice cooker that could!

    S. · February 24, 2014

I absolutely love this rice cooker. First and foremost, I received this same rice cooker in red as a Christmas gift from my mother last year. However, I felt daunted by it after one use (where I didn't properly read the manual and used far too little water) and it sat in my cupboard, unused, for quite a while until my boyfriend threw it out by accident as he thought it did not work.On a quest to 1) make healthier dinner choices and 2) find a use for the vegetables that I use for my work lunches before they spoil, I decided to come back to the original rice cooker that I didn't bother tackling before. This time, I chose a different color because white was less expensive than any other color -- which is always great to remember to double-check when you're purchasing on Bolo. At $17, compared to what they sell for in local stores (roughly around $23 at time of writing this), I felt like it was a good deal. For the beginner to rice cookers, you should always remember that you should take every opportunity to "spice things up a bit" -- that is, go wild with your spices that you add to your water! While it may be silly, I didn't even really think about this -- I had this vision of "vegetables and white rice" in my mind when I saw my rice cooker before. Not true! You can change the spices up so many ways to have very different tasting dishes. You can also add a chicken bouillon cube for extra flavor -- just make sure to stir your rice very well after you've finished cooking! In regards to steaming vegetables, I often throw an array of vegetables together -- leftover onion, asparagus, cabbage, etc. I also use frozen vegetables. Yes, frozen! I rinse them with hot water under the faucet in a strainer, drain, and transfer to my steaming plate. I've found that they taste just fine in a hurry and, quite honestly, it's a great way to save on grocery costs, too. I would suggest trying it out! I personally like to salt and pepper my vegetables before I put the lid on top, since it will fall down into the rice during the steaming process. Always remember to line the hands up with your rice cooker and steamer, since it helps ensure no "loose" spots where steam can escape. I always add my vegetables a little over halfway through the cooking process -- I've found that the directions that Aroma provided (while quite awesome and I reference them frequently for cooking times -- a really great instructional pamphlet!) to be a little too long to steam vegetables. Trial and error. You will find your preference. I've haven't tried to steam meat yet -- that may be an adventure down the road...In regards to cooking brown rice, remember that brown rice has a different texture than white rice if you've never had it before. It's a tiny bit chewier. The directions in Aroma's pamphlet that reference the water lines ONLY refer to white rice -- but they have included directions for brown rice. I always use the provided measuring cup to measure -- never continental measuring cups because I've always figured that they've done all the work for me in figuring out what is most suitable. I usually do have to cook it more on the longer end of the spectrum when it references times in the booklet.Basically -- if you're thinking about getting a rice cooker, I would recommend this one! It's not too advanced and it's fun to play around with, particularly for a person who lives alone or in a relationship. I think you may need a larger rice cooker if you're looking for something for a larger family. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I look forward to trying to make non-rice items, too, like soups... :)

Exactly like the basic Walmart model I used to have, fill the scoop with water twice for every time you filled the scoop with rice, assemble and turn it on. It's easy, if I put the rice on before I start cutting veggies for stirfry then it's done before I am, and it the removable parts clean easily in the dishwasher. I only put the bowl on the top rack as I've seen a few reports of it warping, but the lid always goes on the bottom and the scoop/spoon go wherever they fit when I'm loading. Everything survives and comes clean easily! The only thing I would say to watchout for is spray during the cooking process. I'm used to some startchy rice water escaping through the vent hole in the lid on a ricecooker and I always set it on a kitchen towel anyway to avoid a mess on the counter, but this particular model requires me to use only my longest towels and arrange them strategically. The vent hole ejects stray rice water forward nearly a foot, and not only does this result in a messy counter, it stings when it gets you as you're cooking nearby!

    Love It

    e. · September 24, 2016

I LOVE this rice cooker. First off, it's freaking adorable. I keep it on my counter because it seriously gives me the warm fuzzies. I am a single person and spent a long time searching for something affordable and not for a family of 12.I've used it at least once every single day for the past 4 months for my morning oatmeal. It's so nice and easy to press the button and go shower or whatever. In regards to the bottom sticking issue, I have recently found waiting about 10 minutes after it clicks to 'warm' lets the bottom layer cool off and moisten so it easily releases with the included paddle. For rice it works great. Follow the instructions and everything will be okay. Allow it to rest after it switches to warm for super easy to scrape results. If you are super hungry, open right away and devour scrumptious rice. Let bottom layer soak in sink, it will clean right off. Yes, if you make larger quantities, molten hot water squirts everywhere. This does not bother me, I simply wipe it up.The steamer works like a charm. I usually just put water in the bottom and veggies in the top. If you are some kind of kitchen timing savant, go ahead and put rice in the bottom and then poach salmon and steam asparagus spears in the top so they are all done at the same time. This is a simple unit that brings whatever inside to a medium boil and then flips to warm when most of the water is evaporated because it gets hotter and triggers the thingy inside to pop. Keep adding water and it will go forever. Do with this what you will. It will take a little practice to get things the way you like them, like with any appliance.I religiously use plastic only for cooking and cleaning and the teflon coating is still good as new.For the price this is a really good buy. I recommend this product! :D
