5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for ensuring a quiet and professional-quality brake job.

While many instructional videos on YouTube suggest that lubricating the brake pads isn't necessary, I take a different approach. Most modern brake pads come with a metal backing plate that clips onto the pad itself. Despite common advice, I always apply a thin, even layer of Permatex brake lubricant to the back of each pad. For pads with a separate backing plate, I apply the lubricant both between the pad and the plate, and on the back of the plate as well. Permatex brake lube is initially a smooth liquid but begins to stiffen and become waxy after a couple of minutes, so it's important to apply it promptly. In my experience, this extra step has consistently prevented brake noise—something I find especially irritating. While it might seem unnecessary to some, using brake lubricant on the pad backing is, in my view, essential for ensuring a quiet and professional-quality brake job.

I just sprayed on rotor all the way round and on back of brakes . Then i drove around the block. They squeled worse and i was worried. After i parked and let dry i strtaed my truck and it popped when i went forward from brakes sticking i was afraid for a sec but after stopiing and stickin a few times my brakes have been quiet for 4 days. Hoping for a long time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good product at all

It is like a blue glue. You have to be careful to not get it on the wheels. When you apply it to the rotors, it make the pad to stick to the rotors and in the first few minutes is impossible to drive, and boy the car screams like crazy!! It needs to be applied just a very small amount. After a few days, I had the same noise problem coming back. Does not work well and there could be the potential of damaging the pads or rotors long-term if used.

After replacing my rear brake pads and rotors, I had some slight squealing in reverse and when applying light pressure going forward, but silent the rest of the time. A mechanic friend turned me onto the Permatex product so I took the brakes back apart, sprayed the backside of the pads, re-assembled and now all squeaks are gone! Could have saved myself a lot of time by using this spray during initial assembly, which I will be doing on future brake jobs.A couple things to keep in mind. First the spray does have a blue color, so spray on paper or cardboard to protect your floor. Second, only spray the back sides of the brake pads, never spray the side that contacts the rotor. Finally, the directions say to let dry 10 minutes before re-assembly, but I would recommend longer so they aren’t tacky. If you have time I would spray the new pads the night before and let them dry overnight. A little pricey for the size can, but does work as advertised, so overall a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the outer side of the brake pad to make them sticky for the caliper to stick to them

    W.R.H. · October 5, 2024

I bought this as a recommendation off of a YouTube video when replacing my front disc brake pads last weekend. Spraying the outer part of the brake pad, this will help the brake caliper to stick to the pad to pull them away from the rotor when easing off the brakes. Would buy again.

    Disliked it.

I could not even return it. Waste of money.
