I love pens...all kinds from inexpensive throw away pens all the way up to expensive Montblanc fountain pens and rollerballs. My everyday carry pen is the Cross Edge which fits in my pants pocket and retracts very easily. It's smoothness rivals that of the best Montblanc rollerball pens. With that said, I wanted a pen for everyday writing at my desk that had that smooth rollerball quality but had a nice weight and balanced feel that looked good. The Cross Townsend uses the same exact rollerball refill as the Cross Edge and has a nice weight for a fraction of the cost of a Montblanc rollerball. I highly recommend the Cross Townsend if you are looking for a "prestige" pen without spending 5 figures. It also lays down a very dark and vivid black ink that looks vibrant on documents.

Received the pen in a gift box as described. The pen is beautiful and writes amazing. I read the reviews of others with issues and I experienced none of them. The pen performs flawless as I have used it to write multiple letters and note taking. Have always used and loved Cross pens and this is no departure from the usual craftsmanship or quality.

Cross & Montblanc writing instruments have long been my favorites. The LeGrand Montblanc & the Cross Townsend are mid-size & well weighted. Cross has the far superior warranty, and its customer service team is professional & courteous. The cap on the Cross pens 'click' firmly on both ends, while Montblanc caps are not designed to clip on the barrel end when in use. Cross's design thus allows a more comfortable feel, providing even and solid weighting when in use; also, you can keep track of the cap. I far prefer rollerball & felt select tip refills, and have found Cross materials to be every bit as smooth & 'clot' free as the far more expensive Montblanc supplies. I recently purchased a Cross Townsend Black Lacquer Rollerball Pen, which matches up beautifully with my Cross Townsend Quartz Blue Lacquer Rollerball Pen. These Cross Writing Instruments are so enjoyable that I recently sold my Montblanc Rollerball on ebay. Thank you, A. T. Cross Co. & Bolo!!

I love the snob appeal of Mt Blanc pens. For years (since at least 1990) I have carried and used a Mt Blanc mechanical pencil and fountain pen. Now I also have a ball point to match the set. In, truth, the writing quality is no better than that of a 99 cent Bic, but the flair is incomparable. I find that I tend to leave the fountain pen out of my pocket now. The ballpoint simply does not leak and the ink, of course, dries almost instantly. The fountain pen, while making an elegant calligraphy-like thick 'n thin line, also often results in blobs and smears.

This is exactly what I hoped it would beCross Townsend, Black Lacquer, Selectip Rolling Ball Pen, with 23 Karat Gold Plated Appointments (575).It's a pen that's heavier than most...an attribute that I wanted. It's a little wider in diameter than many...another attribute that I wanted. In addition, I wanted a cap that would solidly click on to the lower portion when configured for writing...like this one does. I have a Cross Apogee which does NOT do that. Since the balance of the pen depends on the cap being attached when in writing mode, the solid lock of the Townsend is highly desirable. The Apogee cap sometimes comes loose when writing.The ordering process was easy on Bolo and the delivery was much faster than I'd expected.Cross rolling ball pens all seem to come with a black ink refill. I prefer blue, so I always end up swapping out the refill right after I get the pen.

Ich bin ein Sammler von Schreibgeräten. Beim Angebot des Townsend Rollerballs für um die 60€ musste ich zuschlagen - und habe es nicht bereut. Der Stift ist luxuriös verpackt und hervorragend verarbeitet. Soft click Verschluss für die Kappe, glänzender Lack mit Gold auf Korpus und Kappe. Eine kleine Wachskugel auf der Mine schützt vor Austrocknung. Ergonomie für meine eher kleinen Hände perfekt, gute Gewichtsverteilung, Dicke genau passend. Posted wäre er zu lang für mich. Die schwarze Mine schreibt ohne zu schmieren flüssig in mein Rhodia Notebook. Wie lange sie hält - das Hauptproblem bei Tintenrollern- kann ich noch nicht sagen. Fazit: Bei Cross ist es wie bei Parker, GvFC oder Pelikan: es gibt die Einstiegsmodelle und das Top Tier. Dieses muss sich dann wie etwa Duofold oder Souverän auch nicht vor MB verstecken. In diese Klasse gehört auch der Townsend von Cross. Cross (aus New England, heute wird vor allem in China produziert) ist übrigens seit Jahren der Lieferant für die US Regierung.

A lovely pen which oozes quality. Although it is quite a large pen the balance is just right with the cap on, but I'm a bit perverse and write with the cap off. Either way it is a pleasure to use. The materials used and the way it is built are excellent. The rollerball refill is extremely smooth and offers no resistance when moving over the paper. I found this a bit difficult to control at first, but am getting used to it. I have used a Parker Sonnet rollerball for years and this is the next level up from that. Also the Parker refill tends to bleed through thinner papers, I haven't found that to be the case with the Cross refills so far.
Great all round experience
This pen truly is the star of the show (so far). Superb quality, well balanced, interchangeable refills (rolling ball, ballpoint, highlighter or porous tip) and a pleasure to write with. Outstanding service, well packaged. Great all round experience.
