We bought this originally on VHS and are very pleased to have it now on DVD.It s a little bit dated as one of the items in the film is no longer available (the trains at Dobwalls)Any body who enjoys trains,this is for you.
Very good DVD
This DVD takes me back to the years of Intercity Swallow liverys on the 125 sets. Those were the days! The DVD is entertaining, has lots of little extras throughout the journey and commentary regarding the line and noticeable features during the run time. It may be a little pricey for what it is but it's definatley worth a watch.
Becoming dated
I bought HST West and Far West because I wanted a driver's eye view to help me working on creating a Railworks train simulator route. It achieved this reasonably well, with lots of very useful information about buildings, woodlands, and other trackside detail. It was produced some time ago, however, and details about things like signalling and even track layout in some areas were not up to date. I didn't really need the travelogue information about some of the towns and areas passed, and the occasional lengths of line not covered by a cab view were a frustration (the approach to Powderham, for example). It would be birilliant if the video was re-done, both for my simulator purposes, and also to compare the line then and now.
