I still ordered them, figuring regardless of that they would still work. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they're made of a very sturdy plastic. I dropped one on my kitchen floor thinking it would shatter but it didn't. I only needed one as I only had one spot in a filter that I was going to use it, but it required me to order 2. I figured I'd have a backup. Crazy thing is, I've found that because of how sturdy it is, and the fact that its got the holes in it, I ended up using it to put my coffee mug on!! It stops my mug from discoloring my wood furniture, and any coffee ring just stays on the plastic and its super easy to rinse off! I realized that if I put a piece of thin plastic inside of it, I was also able to use it for cold drinks! The condensation drips onto the plastic, the raised vented part keeps the cold away from the table. I know, I'm nuts right? But is it great for the charcoal? Absolutely! And apparently its the best thermal protective/water protective coaster I've ever had on top of that! I'm actually going to order some more so that I can have more coasters! Perhaps not recommended if you don't want a weird looking grey coaster on your table. : ) Pssst... I also use it for cereal and ice cream bowls!!

The money you will save on a reusable aquarium filter, astonishing, seriously, when they recommend you clean the filters every 2 weeks, a non brainer! These fit perfect and you can use your choice of filler, I only wish I had known that they existed sooner:) Recommend this!

This was a hurry-up purchase. New Discuss and needed to get peat into their water. I've had my 350 filter for years and it works great. Never considered needing the extra refillable cartridges but thankfully remembered they did make these so ordered 2 to go with my regular filter cartridges. Placed them in the slots in front of the regular ones, fit great. So all the regular filtration first then water goes through the peat filled cartridges to soften the water & keep ph more acidic. Using the Fluval peat granules, which can be used in the amount I want, added to the little compartments in these cartridges.

I'm so glad that I found these refill cartridges!If you have a Marineland or old Penguin filter then these are perfect to customize the mechanical and biological filtration components for your tank. They're also great for saving a little money as well. Both of my filters can accommodate four each, two per side, so I use floss and/or blue-foam for the first level and Seachem matrix or activated carbon in the next. So far it works great in keeping my tanks healthy and they're a lot more effective than the prefabricated Marineland Rite Size "C" filters. Those are a total waste to be honest. They clog easily, need to be replaced often, are somewhat overpriced and just create a lot of landfill waste.These cartridges are basically the same dimensions as the size "C" filter except maybe a little deeper. Don't expect to overfill them since the plastic is a bit rigid like the plastic for an under-gravel filter. I could see the little clips breaking if you dropped it or tried to stuff them, but just be careful and you'll be fine.Overall a great product and I would've given it a perfect five stars if it was made of a more flexible/durable plastic.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Product for Marineland Penguin Biowheel 350
So far so good, purchased two filters, received them fast as always from Bolo, and added activated carbon I purchased at my local Fish store. Cut some poly fiber purchased at the LFS as well, and put all together just like the regular replacement filters. Took me some fiddling to get everything in and closed, but could be because I really packed the carbon in there, possibly too much and too tight. Even so everything is running fine, and my water remains as clear as always. I have a 55 gallon fresh water tank, with 4 Orandas about 4 inches each(not counting tails) along with two Otto Cats to eat algae. Filter wise I have the one Penguin 350 with the two biowheels and compartment space for 4 filters (which i do keep stocked) and I have a Fluval 405 Canister filter. I had too much flow for a while due to the Fluval's powerful output. My plants had a hard time as well as the little Otto Cats, but i recently purchased the Fluval Spray Bar kit, and it has really helped to disperse that heavy current. Now things are great. These filters will save me a great deal of money, I likely will reuse the poly with each cleaning, and just replace the carbon. This way i keep all the biological bacteria in the poly filter part and keep a good ecosystem going. I recommend these filter cartridges for anyone with the compatible biowheel models.

I like it fits My Penguin PRO 275 filter . I was able to modify these with a pair of side cuts very easy.Just snip as close to the edges as possible and snip in the middle, then use Your fingers to rock back and forth till the plastic breaks.This allowed Me to make room for my own Aquarium Filter Pad .Bought some of this Aquatic-Experts-Classic-Bonded filter media available here on Bolo that I can cut to fit and make my own filter cartridge .Saves Me money and I just cut to fit . better that the over priced C Cartridges From marineland .in my picture the right one has the modification vs the left is stock. this allows more room to add Your own media . It is quite simple to do and does not hurt anything , it is just as sturdy as the non modded one .

These plastic box like cartridges feel flimsy and the closing tabs can break off easy. However, they are the only ones that fit the Penquin filters. You are not required to use these in the filters but I fill these with charcoal or ammonia removing pellets to give the filter system an extra boost. This really helps since I reuse the expensive blue filter pads a few times before throwing them out. Simply use a garden hose to clean the blue filter pads and fill the plastic cartridges with charcoal or ammonia removing pellets.
Saves you a lot of money and versatile

As far as I know this is the only brand that makes these instead of having to buy the expensive filters every month. Initial cost is a bit but when compared to filters it’s a no brainer. They fit perfect in any penguin filter. I have the small one and also the largest one. I fill them with carbon and ammonia removing stone and also some bio substrate on the top part. Inside it is broken into sections about every cm so you can space things out and all your carbon etc won’t just sink to the bottom so this offers good coverage. Again I love these things, I’ve had them for years now and no issues. I put filter sponge infront of these as you can see in the pictures. And this also makes it easy to just take the filter out and wash it and leave the carbon etc in longer since it normally lasts longer then the sponge will. Has saved me hundred of dollars.
