Motor oil is made from crude oil and is used to lubricate, clean, and cool engines. Types of motor oil include conventional, synthetic, diesel, bio-based, hybrid (blends of conventional and synthetic), and recycled oils. Motor oil varies in weight and viscosity, as well as additives that some manufacturers add to the oil during the refining process. A numerical code system created by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) grades motor oils according to viscosity, the higher the number between 0 and 60, the more viscous (thicker) the oil is. Most consumer motor oils are graded by two numbers, with the first number indicating cold weather (Winter or "W") performance. This oil has a weight of SAE 5W-30, meaning it has an SAE viscosity rating of 10 in cold temperatures and a rating of 30 at normal operating temperature. Great oil, great price. I don't know that it's any better than Mobil 1 synthetic which can often be had for the same price if not less, but I like it and when it costs less than Mobil 1 wherever you are shopping, seems like a no brainer.

Royal Purple has a surface film-strength 600% stronger than Mobil 1. That may sound like way too much but in the world of micro-chemistry where molecules are all that separate metal parts from shearing themselves apart 600% really isn't a lot when you consider the amount of pressure and heat oil has to stand up to.Final thoughts : It's a fantastic oil one of the very best unfortunately it's very over priced imo and until it's just as cheap as competition Mobi 1 Castrol Edge I think I'll stick with them for now.

If you ever doubt the difference in oils try this in a riding mower. I have 12 acres of grass that I cut on my JD Z425 every other week. I wear headphones to pass the time so there isnt much noise to deal with. This oil reduced the vibrations so much that I was shocked. Its day and night compared to regular JD oil that I have used in the past. You may not notice it as much in a car but the mower will really show the difference.

Had to buy by the quart as it was cheaper. Usually I can find the 5 quart for cheap. All in all a great oil to use! I use it in my 1996 ford ranger xlt 2.3l. Treat your vehicle how you want it to treat you!
