5.0 out of 5 stars Great Magnesium Citrate And Great Absortion
I have used all type of magnesium from citrate, to aspartate, to carbonate and glycinate and tried several brand names. I tried the liquid, the powder, the gummies and the capsules. I can tell the difference from them all and all I can say is that all magnesium citrate are not made equal. I usually prefer the liquid or powder or even capsules over the tablets. However, because Bluebonnet magnesium citrate tablets are "chelated magnesium", I wanted to try them as something I can take when I am stressed and unable to use a powder or liquid.Yes these tablets are big however, they are easy to take. I put one in my mouth and let the light coating dissolve for about 1 minute, and when the tablet starts to melt in my mouth, I drink a little bit of water and it goes down smoothly. The relaxation effect is subtle and yet very nice. I have a pill crusher so I also cut one in two and divide the dose during the day. These magnesium tablets are expensive, yet they are better quality because of the "chelated magnesium" which makes a huge different on how your body is going to absorb it. I also use their liquid magnesium at night and it is very relaxing. Combined, these two products used at different time of the day help keep the stress and its negative effects on the body and brain away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Sleep Quality, Relaxation, and Mood
I purchased this product after reading a book called The Magnesium Miracle that explains how a lot of health issues can be rooted in magnesium deficiency (as well as related to other mineral/vitamin deficiencies). Specifically, I wanted to see how taking this supplement would affect depression/mood issues. I waited awhile before writing this review, because I wanted to take my time to see how the product works for me before leaving feedback. I have now been taking the product for exactly four weeks, and I still take it every day.The book recommended 300 mg of Magnesium Citrate twice a day. Some other suggestions I received were one tablet with each meal and one at bedtime (with this formulation, that sometimes ended up being 600 mg/day). It also recommended that one should take 500 mg Calcium Citrate with the magnesium daily. As a result, I also took Bluebonnet's Calcium Citrate. For the most part, I have just taken 400 mg a day for the past four weeks. I tried to take more daily, as suggested in the book, but this did show some noticeable symptoms of bowel change. If I took more than 400 mg a day there were definitely loose bowel movements. Sometimes the abdominal feelings from this left me feeling a little off/lower mood. It's not fun when your stomach is active that way! I'd like to point out that dosage is probably very dependent on each individual, and while taking this you'd have to figure out for yourself what works best for your body. Maybe check out the same book I got and consult with your doctor or alternative medicine doctor to figure out a good plan for yourself.Pros:-Within the first two days of taking it, I noticed a significant change in my mood upon waking. It was the best mood I'd been in for several weeks. Just less stressed and less overwhelmed by daily stressors.-I also quickly noticed that it helped my body feel much more relaxed. It's amazing how body tension can become such a habit, that you don't notice it until it's improved.-My sleep quality has improved a lot. Now when I lay down to go to sleep, my body feels relaxed and going to sleep in more pleasant. Before, the muscle tension made it hard to mentally and physically relax and fall asleep. My sleep is sounder and more refreshing now. I don't wake throughout the night or wake feeling as tired.-Fatigue has improved. I used to feel worn out by the end of the day. Now I may feel sleepy or tired, but I don't usually feel exhausted anymore.-More sensitive to sensations now. With depression/anxiety, one can get so wound up, it's hard to relax and enjoy hobbies, etc. I feel like taking magnesium regularly has made my body start to feel relaxed enough to get back to balance and be able to enjoy stuff more easily. Taking this magnesium hasn't been a fix all with this so far, but sort of like a little supporter.Cons:-This form of magnesium citrate has a laxative affect to a certain degree. For me, I had to make sure I took with food and calcium at the same time. Calcium counteracts some of the laxative affects of magnesium and helps reduce softness in bowel movements. It's important to make sure you're getting enough calcium in your diet and/or supplements while supplementing with magnesium. Generally recommended ratio is 2:1 for calcium to magnesium. I think taking a type of magnesium that is a little more bio-available (how absorbable a substance is by the body) would help reduce the laxative effect. Some examples are magnesium glycinate or magnesium taurate. Eating more fiber, such as fiber rich foods, would also help with the laxative issue I think.I chose this brand because the price and quality made it one of the better, more affordable brands. You get more quality for your money. I have been using Bluebonnet for years, and I trust it's quality. There are some supplements I like less than others, but generally they give you good value for the price. Magnesium supplements can get pricey, especially as you start to look at ones with higher bio-availability. But in this case, you do get what you pay for, and for those with a deficiency, higher absorbability is better. So if you want to get a magnesium supplement that your body is actually going to absorb, I would choose citrate, glycinate, or taurate.Make sure you talk to your doctor before incorporating any new supplements, including magnesium, into your diet.In the future, I think I will try other types of magnesium to see if others have less of a laxative affect. I'm generally happy with this product, despite this issue, because it has benefited my sleep, tension level, and mood significantly enough to have more pros.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very powerful-in a good way!
The media could not be loaded. Make sure you take them at least 8 hrs before you want to wake up...otherwise if you're like me you'll be very drowsy.Total game changer. I can finally sleep w/o an Rx!
