Description:

About this item:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Funny Story comes a sparkling novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven't spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

5.0 out of 5 stars I grew up in “Linfield” and this book hit the nostalgia hard

The swampy movie theater had to be at Forest Fair Mall. As someone who grew up in Fairfield, I felt like I Emily Henry had cracked my childhood and teenaged experiences and placed them in equal parts of Alex and Poppy. I, too, was the weird kid who didn’t fit in at school while going to an extremely conservative evangelical church three times a week. Like Poppy, I ran from Fairfield as fast as I could and traveled. 41/50 United States and several countries I too settled in a big city—just a west coast one. I only wish I had made a friend like Alex in college. It took me meeting my husband to find my perfect weirdo. :) I absolutely loved this book and when Emily Henry mentions Kings Island (worked there) and the Beach Waterpark while Poppy was in her fever haze (spent so much time there), I got pretty nostalgic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute— Soft Read About Intimacy of Friendship

M.o.o.n.i.e. · May 23, 2025

i must admit that at first i was more focused on the endgame— so focused on what happened that one summer that i forgot to pay attention to the intimacy of it all. this book is a slow burner but it unravels one of the most genuine friendships i have ever read about. opposite personalities collide all the time but Alex and Poppy are different. he is a straight line of focus and routine and she is a crooked disaster of fun but somehow they find comfort in being their naked— true selves amongst each other.this book is about the intimacy of finding some one who may not understand you at first— who holds your hand instead of running away when they learn every layer. who builds a cottage next to your heart and burns a fire when ever life grows cold… the intimacy of finding your person— someone who just gets you.i am happy i took the time to slow down and actually read between the lines of this book. it was never about the end game. it was always about the journey and the people you meet, including the different versions of yourself.GET YOUR COPY TODAY

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful terrific book. 10/10. 0% smut, 100% romance+love+friendship

I loved this book So Very Very much. Just. Wow. There wasn't a slow or 'dull' moment. I felt for and felt like I knew the characters quickly. Could feel and understand their relationship inside myself. It was just wonderful. (I just finished reading this today, after basically binge reading overnight) 0% smut, 100% love story built over years of die-hard friendship. 10/10. My favorite Emily Henry book so far but I've not read them all yet. Actually, might be tied with 'Great Big Beautiful Life' which is also wonderful.

This one feels strange after finishing Happy Place last month and feeling like that book just GETS me. Not a day goes by that I haven’t thought of Harriet and Wyndham which is why I was SO ready to give myself up to this book the same way.It did not hit the same. Outside of my aversion to when any male LI continuously refers to his female counterpart as “small” or “tiny”, People We Meet on Vacation just wasn’t an enjoyable read for me. By the time I realized I just was not vibing with the story, I was too far in and decided to just enjoy what I could of the next couple hours. I found Poppy annoying and a bit juvenile on several occasions and as much as I liked Alex and the chemistry between them, there wasn’t enough of it for me to ignore the emphasis on all things “millennial”. Like I’m 25 and I simultaneously feel like Poppy and Alex are too old to be acting this way but also not even remotely as ancient that everything is as serious as they act like it is. There’s not a lot of plot or much happening but the pacing is still pretty fast and even due to Henry’s incredible use of flashbacks which I will always think she does masterfully, even when I don’t love the story itself. That and some other very small and specific details just lead me to the conclusion that this is just not for me. The nuance and freshness that I enjoyed so much from Happy Place was just not speaking to me here, to use Poppy and Alex’s own phrase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall good read

D.W. · June 15, 2025

I loved how fun and easy to read the book was. However I wished the story forward without so many chapters dedicated to go back in time to build up. The build up was a bit long and took away from the juicy story. Despite my personal preference I did enjoy the story and would recommend it

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!

C.E. · June 3, 2025

I really loved this book! Emily Henry is so skilled at character development and relationship story telling. I was so invested in the story of Poppy and Alex; it was as if I knew them personally. I found the main characters so likeable, I was honestly a little sad when the book ended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beach read

K.C. · June 3, 2025

Single pov with a fairly decent storyline. Nota book I would normally read, prefer multiple pov and a bit more mystery/suspense. Would recommend for a few days beach time read.

Excellent writing, but the conclusion a little cliche

K.C. · January 1, 2022

Extremely well written, fully fleshed out deep characters, exciting suspenseful plotting. In the end it felt a bit cliche, though. The main characters' lack of self-confidence was also a bit eye roll inducing.

Summer Romance to perfection

A. · June 18, 2025

A perfect summer vacation read. Literally hurt my chest to put it down without reaching the end.

Excellent friends to lovers romance
