I recently acquired a copy of the St. Joseph Edition of the New Catholic Bible New Testament with Psalms. (NCB-NTP). I purchased this volume because I wanted a hand-sized NT with Psalms that I can easily carry with me. I was impressed enough with both my new full-sized NCB and my pocket-sized NCB NT that I decided upon the NCB New Testament edition that includes the Psalms. Here are a few of my first impressions of what I consider a well-made volume:1. THE PHYSICAL VOLUME: The NCB-NTP is published by Catholic Book Publishing Corporation of New Jersey. (It was printed in Korea.) It’s small (approximately 7” x 5”x 1”) and perfectly sized for carrying in my tote bag. This is a very well-constructed volume that has a nice two-tone (tan and red) "Dura-Lux" cover, a paste-down liner, and a text block that appears to be sewn (although it is hard to tell.) The paper is opaque and shows little evidence of ghosting. The typeset small but very readable. The shade of red used for the words of Jesus is also easy to read. The NT has one thin gold-colored ribbon marker and gold page edge gilt.The text layout is different from other NCB editions I’ve seen. This NCB-NTP is in a single-column format, which I prefer. Cross references and explanatory notes appear on the bottom of each page (instead of at the end of each book), which I also prefer. This Bible includes two-color (black and red in varying tones) illustrations, which I think are dull and rather “cartoonish” (I don’t care for pictures in Bibles to begin with; however, if illustrations are to be included in a Bible, why not use famous classical works of art instead of the rather silly and insipid two-color drawings that appear in this NCB-NTP?)2. THE TRANSLATION: The NCB is an all-new English translation prepared by Rev. Jude Winkler and a committee of translators. It’s officially approved by the Catholic church for private study and devotion. As English translations go, the NCB leans more toward formal equivalence, and appears to me to be accurate. The language is clear, easily understandable, dignified, and reverent. I think it compares well with other formal-equivalence translations.3. THE NOTES: Catholic Bibles usually come with copious explanatory notes and annotations, and this NCB-NTP is no exception. They are the same unabridged NT notes found in the full NCB. In this edition, they are placed at the bottom of each page, along with cross-references, which I think is a vast improvement over other editions I’ve seen. The notes clearly explain the meaning of Bible passages (from a Roman Catholic perspective, of course).On balance, I really like the New Catholic Bible NT with Psalms. . I can recommend it without reservation. (4 ½ Stars ^ 5)

Arriving earlier than scheduled, I am thrilled with this small NT and Psalms book! It feels wonderful in my hand, since regular bibles are too heavy for my achy hands. But above all, the print is perfect for me. Even the footnotes are easy to read with my glasses. The type face and setup on the page really helps with that. Love the red letter feature. Also, I rarely get into the old testament any longer, so this is now my everyday Bible.

My wife and I purchased two copies of this Bible several years ago, and it is our favorite and most read Bible. We both, personally, love the translation, the print, the pictures, the notations and commentaries and the whole format. We also love that it includes the Psalms. I just love all the notes and excellent commentaries, which enhance this New Testament and the Psalms. For both of us, this particular Bible is an absolute treasure.

I purchased this book to be my travel companion so the Word of God is always with me. This is an awesome book. It is compact so it will fit any midsize purse or backpack, the print is good size (I can read it without glasses on), the Lord's verses are highlighted in red which is very convenient if you want to memorize some, the paper is soft and every page has annotations. The book has all Gospels, all books leading up to and including Revelation and the Psalms. This is a great small book to carry with you whenever you go. I highly suggest to get a copy. 📖✝️

I received this in Feb 2023, & just love everything about it. I should have written sooner as I have recommended it to different people. My eyesight is not the greatest, but I can read this with my reading glasses. My hands are small & arthritic, but this is easy for me to hold & the cover feels nice. I don't think it is right for a course book, but I have enjoyed it for private meditation, due to the earlier things. I mentioned. Also Jesus, words are in red which I like, as I can pick it up, & open up to Our Lord's Words, & just contemplate where I opened it at. And of ccourse, I can just read a chapter. The translation is very nice. All of it is very nice, a great gift for Confirmations, etc

I bought a copy of this New Catholic Version of Psalms, St. Joseph Edition, with the GREEN cover and I wish I had waited and gotten myself this one! I bought this one with the BROWN cover for a birthday gift for my husband and it is so much nicer: imitation leather bound with ribbon bookmark and gold-edged pages. The edges of the binding are slightly rounded at the edge, so it seems a much better quality. (I must look up a Psalm about repenting for envy now. LOL) I am really pleased that it will make a nice gift though.Anyway, this is the same edition (2004) as the one I have, though mine is just a paperback. The wording and layout for both appear to be the same. It really brings alive the Psalms and the extensive notes on each page teach about the history of what they meant as written, the types of Psalms, as well as how to use the Psalms as a guide for prayer.Spend a couple of dollars more and get this version!! You'll be glad you did.

I am so glad to finally have a pocket NT so I can do as the Holy Father requested of us. That is, to carry a small bible or New Testament with us at all times. This is the perfect size for pocket or purse I am relieved to finally have Sacred Scripture I can carry with me always.

I was looking for a travel edition of the Psalms Catholic version and this is a perfect size. It fits in my purse or suitcase with ease. The letter size is also good not tiny as might be expected. I can’t leave out the looks and feel of the tiny book. Its leather covers make it look expensive for the also tiny price. I love it.
Illustrated new testament and palsms
This new testament is easy to read the font size very good it is informative with plenty of notes.The illustrations are nice and the book is well made.. it really is lovely

Perfect Catholic New Testament & Psalms
This New Catholic New Testament & Psalms is the best pocket Bible I've ever owned! The text is very clear and easy to read even for my senior eyes. The words of Christ are in red. There is one column on each page instead of two which I really like. The translation is easy to understand and seems quite accurate. The binding is well made and the cover is beautiful. I like the simple pictures throughout and do not find them distracting at all. There is a reference list of Jesus' Miracles and Parables at the back for easy lookup. I really can't say enough good things about this Bible. It is "top-notch" in my opinion.
Just what I was looking for
Bought as a present but had a quick look through and it seemed great to me. Type not too small, cover felt nice quality, and notes seemed the right level for the person I bought it for.
A REFRESHINGLY GOOD TRANSLATION.
I have perused and enjoyed just about every English translation available. Some, such as the KJV and original Grail, have much to recommend them. But I was quite surprised by this NCV version which I quite liked immediately -- fresh, modern, yet still resonating with the timeless.
