Description:

Leadership Principles for Pastors and Leaders Navigating the Challenges of Pastoral Ministry

The church is experiencing a leadership crisis. For every celebrity pastor exiting in the spotlight, there are hundreds of lesser-known pastors leaving in the shadows. Why are so many pastors leaving the ministry? Bestselling author Paul David Tripp suggests that lurking behind the failure of a pastor is a weak leadership community.

Turning to Scripture for guidance, Tripp presents readers with 12 leadership-community principles necessary for a gospel-centered leadership model. Here is a book with a message for those new to ministry as well as those experienced in it―God’s abiding presence is your hope in leadership.

  • Perfect for Pastors and Church Leaders: Presents a church-leadership model that is informed by the gospel of Jesus Christ
  • Practical: Highlights 12 principles for leadership: achievement, gospel, limits, balance, character, war, servants, candor, identity, restoration, longevity, and presence
  • Now with Study Questions: Use these prompts to reflect on each chapter alone or in a small-group setting

Paul David Tripp touches on some toxic traits of ministry leaders and gracefully navigates towards Christ-centered health. He lovingly develops a plan for longevity in ministry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only a few chapters in but really blessed by it so far

I am still in the process of reading this one but I am really enjoying it. He has some great insight on what gospel leadership community should look like to be healthy, but sadly you don't see a lot of it in the church or ministries today. This is the first book of his that I have read and it is easy to read and keeps your attention. Highly recommended for anyone in church or ministry leadership.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for a leadership community

N.C. · December 25, 2024

I wish I had this book a few years back... this book and the previous One.In some way, I saw the dangers coming but didn't know how to communicate them. Then calamity strikes and no-one knew how to respond... our leadership community just wasn't ready.I'm in a different leadership community now... wishing I can warn them in time.Great Resource at a time when it is really needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs UP! Leadership Principles for church staff and lay people.

T.S. · September 1, 2024

Paul Tripp wrote a very informative book on the principles for church leadership. As a lay person, I discovered a profound perspective of how delicate church leadership is balanced with worldly business practices and Devine guidance. To draw distinction and support for understanding the challenges faced by the church leadership and staff was eye opening. It will encourage a lay person to be less judgmental and more how can we help others in the congregation to understand the challenges facing church leadership today!

Vital leadership material.

M.B.J.E. · April 10, 2021

A most searching and challenging book for all church leaderships. Some painful truths in here to imbibe but that is so helpful. I recommend elders study a chapter at a time as individuals and then go through it together as part of elders meetings.

A must read for all gospel workers

S.A. · April 10, 2025

This is a well thought out book with plenty of practical examples to help pastors refocus, reframe and remember calling to be first and foremost Ambassadors of Christ.Critical to remember that your best work, done in your own strength for any other purpose than God's glory is nothing more than trash.

Well thought through!!

J.M. · October 21, 2021

This is a well thought through and helpful read for all who are involved in leadership in the troubled North American church today!

To close to home

L.F. · May 6, 2022

As I read this book page by page, I was confronted and conflicted. Confronted because as I read these words I held a mirror in the other hand looking directly at myself. Conflicted about if where I am right now can change if I want it to. So I see myself and see what God can do, what do I choose? No doubt this book is for every leader and pastor, elder and board member read it so you can become a community for health and wholeness.
