Review:

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for entire family, including young adult at home or college.

K. · August 31, 2013

This is truly Christian living, easy to read and very biblical. I know many homeschool families that follow this without even have read the book and they are enjoying their marriages, children,(life). They have, or are currently raising responsible successful children who are following Christ. This book will give you an understanding of true cause of most of the mental illnesses (ex ADD, ADHD, depression, etc) that are being diagnosed today. If you can have faith in God's word and try the principles in this book (which are opposite of what our culture teaches and promotes) you will enjoy your relationships (family/marriage). Most professing Christians, even some pastors i know of, are not doing this, however, they believe they are living the Christian life, while wondering why they are not enjoying their marriage/children. I have recently applied these principles (God's word) to my family life and am experiencing the fruit. The only part I am questioning, due to how much colleges have changed since this book was written, is where they tell young adults to go to Christian college to find a spouse. Would be better now to live at home and attend a true bible believing Christian college from home (ex: masters college in southern Ca). Better to meet Christians from church, however, it is more difficult to find young adults at church, as they are mostly away at college. Girls especially should avoid college environment and could take on-line classes, if needed. They will give you more time for more rewarding tasks, like taking care of your own families (siblings, grandparent, parents, family job) and give you more time to spend in places where you can meet some great prospects for marriage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound Biblical Principles that work for any Christian home.

Having attended Dr. Jay E. Adams classes in nouthetic counseling, I was assigned this book to use in the classroom. The book is AMAZINGLY SIMPLE in concept and is a model ALL homes can use to have a peaceful, Christian home. The book was so helpful in my own home that I adopted it for a Bible Study for my ladies in my church. We did a chapter by chapter Bible Study and all who were present have raved about it's simple solutions to a peaceful home. I highly recommend this book for EVERY FAMILY IN AMERICA!

4.0 out of 5 stars a Must read

If you are serious about making your family work and lasting, then read this book! There are alot of good messages in the book that can help you and your family grow and stay together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speaks directly to Titus 2

B. · October 25, 2008

This book is the epitome of Titus 2 that instructs the elders to teach the young women and men individually. Mr. Adams made some good points that are truly life lessons as a Christian striving to be all that God wants us to be. Although I did not always like what Mr. Adams said he made biblical sense and what Christian can deny that.If you are looking for a book that give biblical instruction on how to live this is certainly the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book

This is an excellent, excellent book. Jay Adams has shown himself to be a wise teacher of the Word of God, and the truths he discusses in this book are timeless and very much needed in this century. It was refreshing to realize that marriage isn't all about having kids, among many other things. There are many more truths. This is an essential tool for our pastor with pre-marital counseling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book for a Christian marriage!

This is a very helpful book. My wife read it during our engagement years ago and again during our marriage. The chapter on communication was especially helpful and was a real blessing to my wife and me in our marriage.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good except for personal bias in Chapter re: wives.

N.&.J. · May 29, 2021

I am Christian wife and mom of three. I have worked outside the home in some seasons but we agreed that my being home is more profitable after my husband told me that he really appreciates what I bring to our home and family (not in those exact words). I was absolutely loving this book right up until chapter 6, A Word to the Wives, where the author's delivery changes dramatically to the point that I see a personal agenda. This subject was obviously very personal to him and he uses personal language to the female readers such as, '...so that won't let you off the hook; not for one moment.' and 'Yet by comparison to what Jesus Christ has required of their husbands, Christian Wives have an easy lot.' Chapter 7 is entitled, Loving Leadership, focusing the reader on the subject matter; a husbands role before the Lord. Chapter 6 is entitled, A Word to the Wives, which while a cute play on "word to the wise..." is certainly not centered on a wife's role. The thing is, I actually agree with most of his advice, but it is delivered so poorly in these chapters as to be difficult to read. Chapter 6 (and what's directed at wives in Chapter 7) reads as animosity, which really tore down the beautiful work He was offering to Christ and His church. I do recommend most of the book, but his delivery of the material related to a wife's role will require a huge amount of humility and some forgiveness of the author's offensiveness while reading. None of us are perfect; one of Jay Adams imperfections came out in this beautiful book and ugly chapter.

This is the most amazing, clear, Biblical book I've read on what a Christ-following family (husband, wife, children) should look like. Beautiful truth AND grace. A must-read for anyone single or married.

Très bon livre

Idéal pour les nouveaux chrétiens.

Great for born again Christians who want to see excellence

t. · August 17, 2013

It's a very good book, I have to say. It's probably better for (born again) Christians who are negotiating the journey of being married to another Christian. I am married to a non Christian and struggled to find something to hold on to in it. I would recommend it to Christians tho, there is much to be gained in it. It references scripture well and appropriately
