I’ve been a baseball fan, a Seattle baseball fan all my 70 years. I’ve seen some baseball, and I’ve read lots of baseball including Joe Posnanski baseball. It’s near the end of the 2025 season and the beloved Mariners might just muscle their way into the playoffs. But win or lose, Why We Love Baseball is a reminder of why it’s such a great game with so many memorable moments. Very fun bites of memory from virtually every team means there is something for every baseball fan.

I have bought this book three times now. Once for my father, my son and my cousin. And now that I say that I should probably buy it for my other cousin as well! This is such a fun baseball book to read. Each page is filled with great nuggets of baseball history both recent and ancient! The author is one of the best and can turn a phrase better than most. Many of the moments he talked about had my son and I looking the moments up on YouTube to see the moments ourselves or to learn more. That’s how good this book is - it inspires you to want to know more!

I bought the book for my baseball loving sister’s June birthday. After leafing through pages and reading a little here, a little there, I bought a second book as a gift for a dedicated reading friend. He called shortly after getting the book to tell me how delightful and enjoyable he found the book. Poignant and well-written. This book will be my book to give this year. Just ordered a 3rd copy to send as a thank you gift.

One of the best sports books I’ve ever read. I’m sure everyone who reads this will appreciate the history of baseball in the author’s development of subjects and examples. But I think the older you are, and the more you have been drawn to the game of baseball, and the more you have lived and witnessed the players, the plays, the successes and the failures, the more you will appreciate just what a remarkable example of just - Why We Love Baseball!

WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL A History In 50 Moments is the much anticipated follow up book to Joe Posnanski's THE BASEBALL 100. I really enjoyed reading THE BASEBALL 100. All 827 pages! I also thoroughly enjoyed Joe's other two baseball books THE SOUL OF BASEBALL and THE MACHINE. If I were to rank them 1-4 it would be.................well, let's just say that they are all GREAT books. In WHY WE LOVE BASEBALL Joe starts out with his favorite player as a 10 year old (Duane Kuiper) and ends with one of my favorites as a 10 year old (Hank Aaron). Duane Kuiper's only home run in 3,754 plate appearances is ranked #50 and Hank Aaron's 715th home run that broke Babe Ruth's record is ranked #1. Moments # 2-49 are sure to bring back many fond memories for fans who witnessed the moment in person or maybe saw it on TV or heard it on the radio. And of course there are some moments that we have only read about such as #6 on the list, Babe Ruth's "called shot ". If you love Baseball, you will love this book! 去年の秋、話題の洋書として「欲しい物リスト」に放り込んだが、五千円近くしたので長い間そのままにしていた。今年10月にリスト追加した際に何気なく見たら、6百円台（７９％割引）の大幅値下げ状況に驚いた。この時は整備済みPCの購入を優先したので結局見送ったが、「不良在庫一掃セール」をちょっぴり悲しく感じた。翌月には税込価格523円（8９％割引）で投げ売りされており、ここが潮時と思って遂にカートへ移した。ポイントも使って定価の十分の一以下の僅か4百円でハードカバーの本書を手に入れたから、（1年で中身の価値が低減する筈もなく）何だかキツネに摘ままれた思いがした。寝る前に少しずつ読み進めているためまだ100頁を越える程度の進捗だが、NO.50から順にエピソード番号を減らしていく著者特有の構成が面白く、NO.39に至って「Striking out Sadaharu Oh」(In Nishinomiya, Hyogo prefecture, Japan)が出て来たのにビックリ仰天した。てっきり長い歴史を誇る米国MLBの逸話開陳に終始する本だと思っていたのに、日本球界伝説の左腕投手、江夏 豊を登場させて読者を魅了するとは！阪神ファンやカープファンには粋な計らいで堪(こた)えられない筈。本書を買ってホンショに良かった。洋書だけに要所ヨウショにこんなサプライズが隠されているのかも…。その通り、NO.34にちゃんとあのユニコーン、「SHOHEI」(March 21, 2023, Miami)が載せられているから、誰でも、英語でも、読みたくなること請け合い。野球（ベースボール）ってやっぱり好いもんだと実感できる本書を、格安購入できてホンショに良かったと思える幸せを皆んなにお裾分けしてあげたい（ダジャレの繰り返し、ひつこいゾ）。
