Wonderful overview of perimenopause and menopause symptoms and options for relief. Written by a wonderful journalist that experienced it herself and wants others to know. A must read for people 35+ Docs don’t leave this stuff in medical school and many are uniformed. Full of science backed information and advice from midlife experts. Easy to read and relatable. The audio book version is fantastic and read by Tamsen herself.

For any woman at any stage of life, this book is a must read. Not only is it easy to read but it’s fun to read as well. Tamsen tells her story in a way that makes you want to keep reading. She explains what her journey has been like and it’s so relatable. Not only that, but this book is educational for everyone. Woman and men should be running to understand what it’s like for midlife women. The struggle is real and we are not alone in it. How to Menopause is the book I didn’t know I desperately needed until I had already survived the war. Y’all—I wish I’d found this 10 or 15 years ago! So many things I struggled through now make so much more sense. I kept nodding, laughing, and muttering, “Well that explains it.”Every woman needs this book in her arsenal. The book had good information but I felt it was more for someone in perimenopause as opposed to menopause. Also, I retired early and although the information is good for women and the advocacy for professional women in menopause is great it wasn’t what I was looking for. It does make sense though as I look back in my mid to late forties how this could have been beneficial to me as I was navigating divorce and a professional life as well as going through perimenopause. More definitely needs to be done as far as bringing awareness to the symptoms of women and giving them more grace. My recommendation is for an early 40 year old or even late 30 year old to read this book. It’s never to early to understand why is normal aging and what to expect. When we are young we think we are invincible.

Just as I instantly ordered What to Expect When You're Expecting when I was pregnant with my first child, How to Menopause has become my go to resource to help me navigate this uncertain and unexpected stage of my life. As someone who refused to take medication or hormone therapy because of my fear of putting anything foreign in my body, I am so grateful to Tamsen Fadal for demystifying all the uncertainty and anxiety that accompanies menopause. In my case, it felt like all the symptons hit me like a ton of bricks - night sweats, insomnia, intense joint pain, weight gain, hair loss, low libido, you name it, I was experiencing it. Additionally, since my grandmother passed away from Alzheimer's and my own mom is battling the disease right now, my biggest fear is I will suffer the same fate. Through Tamsen's documentary, The M Factor and now How to Menopause, I have learned so much about the connection between how the loss of estrogen can impact brain health and our memory and that information alone finally convinced me to start a hormone therapy plan to help relieve my symptoms, while protecting my brain for the the future. Excellent read!! LOTS of great information. I would recommend having a pen and paper or a highlighter close by to jot down/highlight some notes as you read. It does have a reference section in the back, but I find I want to have some of the information and advice on hand right away. There is just so much helpful information (a wide variety of every relatable topic imaginable). I plan on reading it a second time because I am sure there will be different information that I will focus on. It touches on every aspect whether you are in peri-menopause, in the thick of it, or even past it. Definitely one of the best books to read on this subject. If I could give it higher than 5 stars I would!!
